  1. Yogurt and hard cheeses like cheddar are naturally lactose free. Hopefully they aren't charging you extra just because they put a lactose free label on them.
  2. This can not be stressed enough. After all testing is done do get her on the diet along with yourself.
  3. Celiac is covered under the ADA. You need to talk with the school and let them know what is going on and how being glutened effects him. Perhaps arrangements can be made so that he can have extra time on tests and certainly it can be arranged that he have his assignments emailed to him on the days he is not in school so he doesn't fall to far behind. If...
  4. Hematite is a naturally magnetic rock. Some people think magnets can help with a number of things. Whether a fact or a placebo I don't know. If you think it helps you keep using it. Just don't rub a magnetic strip from an ID card or bank card on it as it will mess up the card.
  5. Yes malabsorption can effect the meds we take. When you heal that should change. Until then if you are taking the birth control pill to prevent pregnacy do be sure to use a barrier method with it like condoms or spermicidal foam.
  6. Could Dad go with her on the ballon ride? You might also want to see if there are any glider rides around, those are pretty neat and only one person can go. Helicopter rides are also available in some areas. You have gotten some really great ideas from folks here although it seems there is a reason why anything suggested won't work. I would ask my kids...
  7. When you are done with any conventional testing do get yourself gluten and casien (dairy) free. Your going to feel a lot better once you are.
  8. I think that is fantastic as long as it is happening at your home. What a great opportunity to educate people in the food business. Have a great time and maybe you will be able to go to the restaurant and get surprised by a gluten free menu in the not to distant future.
  9. Do give the diet a good strict try. Acid reflux and heartburn are not uncommon with celiac. Hopefully the doctor took lots of biopsies but your body will give you the best answer. How did your body react to the one month challenge? If you had symptoms come back that is also pretty diagnostic.
  10. I had severe neuropathy along with partial paralysis that resolved on the diet. It is not uncommon with us. For some it is due to our bodies not being able to utilize B12 from our food or swallowed supplements and for others it is part of the autoimmune reaction stemming from the antibodies action on the nervous system. After all testing is done do give the...
  11. I think bringing this up with the therapist is a good idea. As a celiac who fought the life altering effects of gluten including the suicidal aspect of it I know it can be really difficult. I committed suicide at age 11 due to this overwhelming depression. Thankfully I was found in time and revived at the hospital although I was in a coma for days. Off gluten...
  12. I don't show up in blood tests so we don't do those. I did have an endo done about 5 years after I was diagnosed when I had a over 50 colonoscopy done just to make sure I didn't have any issues. My GI said as long as I wasn't having issues there was no need to redo the endo on a routine basis.
  13. Both of my children showed a low positive on tests. Both were symptomatic. If your children have symptoms be sure to try them on the diet after all testing is done as children have an even higher rate of false negatives than adults do.
  14. Yes mine for the most part went away. I did however have to be really strict. I live in a gluten free house and I eat mostly whole unprocessed foods. I eliminated it from everything I came in contact with. I have to be very careful to not get CC'd because the symptoms come back if I do. I also found I am sensitive to distilled gluten grains so I avoid them...
  15. I looked at the bottle this morning and it is the Suave Naturals for Kids not a baby wash like I thought. Don't want you searching the wrong aisle. It is in a white bottle.
  16. You poor thing. I can't believe no one would help you. You need to call the doctor back and tell them the drug is not working. That must have been a really scarey experience for you. If you are in public and you feel the event coming try to get to somewhere where someone can call an ambulance or phone someone to get you. I am so sorry you din't have even...
  17. My Gosh!!!! Are you being tested soon? How are you feeling? Hopefully your feeling good and those levels will have gone down a lot on your retest.
  18. If you want to reply to a specific post hit the reply button and when the original post comes into the box start your response a couple lines after the last "quote" bracket. That will put the original post into a box rather than fitting it in with your reply. As to your original post, yes this disease can effect so much in our lives. It is a hard adjustment...
  19. There are differing levels of sensitivity and those levels can even change in the same person over time. Many of us become more sensitive to CC as we heal, this is the bodies way of protecting us. Since celiac is an antibody reaction once those antibodies go down the sudden introduction of a small amount of gluten through CC or accidental injestion can cause...
  20. That little girl sounds like my son. I hope her parents or doctor get her tested for celiac. Sounds like a weird show I will have to see if I can catch it as it sounds entertaining.
  21. You may want to drop the soy for a couple weeks and see if that makes a difference. Unfortunately quite a few of us have an intolerance to soy. Try a different nondairy milk. Pacific makes some good ones. Do not sub with Rice Dream even though it says it is gluten free they do use barley in it.
  22. You may have an additional intolerance. You may want to eliminate dairy and soy and see if that helps. If it does then add them back in one at a time for a week or soy and see if the symptoms reoccur. You could also start doing a food and bowel diary and see if after a while you can see a pattern. Intolerances can have delayed reactions so the pattern may...
  23. Usually yes but for some folks the scars may fade quicker than for others.
  24. It is possible that since you are often getting gluten your system may still be fighting those antibodies and making you more prone to these repeat outbreaks. You may want to do your best to eat only whole unprocessed foods for a while to give your system the best chance to heal. Are you being careful about CC issues in the home and in your toiletries etc...
  25. Are you sure what you are suffering from is shingles? Have you seen a dermatologist? If you haven't you may want to see one. Some of the pictures I have seen of shingles bear a strong resemblance to DH lesions. Both cause a blistering rash. A dermatologist can tell you if you have DH by biopsying the skin next to the rash and looking for the antibodies. Be...
