  1. I agree. Also if you don't have an issue with gluten and your problems stem from something else then chances are the diet won't help you feel better. It is a good idea to at least get a celiac panel done if you can before you go gluten free. If you do have issues with gluten and eliminate it and then decide later that you want testing you need to go back...
  2. If you haven't been gluten free for very long then you might be able to get an accurate result with a shorter challenge. False negatives are seen even on a full gluten diet so if your blood test results are negative but you feel better gluten free continueing the diet IMHO would be the best thing to do after you are done with testing. If someone has fully...
  3. That's why I never purchased a book with gluten free listings. They are out of date the minute they are printed. It is best to go with the labels of the foods and your knowledge of the companies policies in regard to gluten ingredients.
  4. Reactions can be delayed for up to a week. Some folks also have symptoms other than gut related like migraines, bone and muscle pain, brain fog, irritiability etc. Keep up with the challenge and don't assume you are safe with gluten after only two days.
  5. To Travis regarding your reply's to Stacy Then, stop! Many of us are very sensitive to gluten in mixed households. If we don't wash our hands frequently, especially if we have young children who get gluten everywhere we get sick. Well, who doesn't? Celiac that attacks the brain can cause anxiety and depression. Yes everyone gets...
  6. Hopefully the doctor biopsied the area next to the lesions not the lesions themselves. If the doctor biopsied the lesion expect it to come back negative. For the Original Poster: There isn't much they can do about DH. If a person has celiac and is firmly diagnosed the best thing to do is to be strictly gluten free. There is a med called dapsone that...
  7. Glad you figured out what was wrong and happy to hear you are feeling better. Hopefully you were smarter than I was when I superglued my glasses to my nose after I ran into a cupboard door. When the end of the day came I just ripped them off my face. Yowch!!!
  8. Welcome to the board. To be safest you really need to get out of an environment where flour dust is going to be in the air. You are going to be breathing it in and gluten will be getting into your system that way. IF the mixing of the dough takes place in a different room from where the baking is done you might be able to get away with it. You could try...
  9. I recieved a strange phone call this afternoon from someone who stated that their company was working with Microsoft. I was suspisious from the get go, thank goodness. He had me look at a few files on my computer, something I know is harmless and proceded to tell me all these, oh no oh no sort of comments. He then stated that my computer was infected with...
  10. I fully understand that as you can get some help with the expense of gluten-free foods in your country. Not everyone has as bad of a response as I did. Do be aware though that sometimes even with a challenge or on a full gluten diet we can have a false negative. If the diet helps do be sure to go back to it after your testing is done. I hope you get a definative...
  11. The timeline can vary from person to person. It can also vary system by system. Some will see gut relief fairly soon but take longer to have neuro or bone and joint issues resolve. My migraines were gone within a week and gut symptoms soon after but the other issues took much longer to resolve. Some have gut issues stop almost immediately and with others...
  12. I don't think so. It might cause similiar symptoms but the antibodies to gliadin are antibodies to gliadin. Bacteria can usually be found through stool cultures if you suspect you have a bacterial problem.
  13. Yes and there is also a difference I think when folks have more autoimmune impact in organs other than just the gut. It takes much more gluten to damage the villi than to start the antibody autoimmune response, IMHO. I do not for a minute doubt those who react to very small amounts of gluten from any source whether breathed in or injested or absorbed into...
  14. I don't know if your really going to want to hear this but since you asked.... My response to the gluten challenge was horrific. I had to do 2 at diagnosis. The first my symptoms returned full force after 3 days back on gluten and my doctor told me to stop the challenge and get back on the diet. I was then referred to my GI doctor who demanded another challenge...
  15. I had seizures also and wonder if her hallucinations might have been seizure related. Gluten can have some really bad effects on the brain. As for your results even though they appear negative except for the one test do try the diet after your done with testing. In my family I was the most severely impacted but never showed positive on blood work, but both...
  16. I will, I have called them but they need to ask the chemist. I expect to hear from them in about 2 weeks or less. Not a quick answer but I would rather they were through than quick. I got the Golden Violet and do hope it is safe for me as it is so pretty.
  17. I did volunteer work for some time at our local food bank recently. You can't expect the folks there to know what they can safely give you, they just don't usually have the knowledge. We always had rice, canned and fresh (in season) veggies. The cereals we got would vary. They also would really load folks up with loaves of bread. I would suggest you go in...
  18. Yea I found that also and to top it off they also usually have casien added in to.
  19. I was never able to find a replacement that didn't have soy or casien. We don't get the earth balance here. What I used for quite a while was Ghee. It is clarified butter but it is lactose free and I think casien free also. I soon discovered that I did tolerate real butter with no problems and now use that. You can get ghee either at a health food store or...
  20. If I remember correctly Bob's gluten free items are made in a dedicated plant, could be wrong though. Do keep in mind that there seem to be more of us that don't tolerate oats than do. You may be one of us who doesn't.
  21. I hope mine does soon also. I hear so many rave reviews about it I would love to try it. So far my fave is Grainless Baker and they always seem to run out of that.
  22. Low choleserol was one of the first things to show up when I started getting really ill from the celiac. Doctors would tell me how great that was and not bother to listen when I told them how much butter, ice cream and fatty foods I ate. If you are early in on the healing, the three month mark you speak of, then those numbers should rise to more normal levels...
  23. Great news, you must be really getting that inflammation down. Do a little happy dance and enjoy your meal. Do speak up at the restaurant and let them know you are gluten free so they will take the proper precautions.
  24. That same article states: Open Original Shared Link "The IOM did not establish a UL for vitamin B12 because of its low potential for toxicity. In Dietary Reference Intakes: Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Vitamin B12, Pantothenic Acid, Biotin, and Choline, the IOM states that "no adverse effects have been associated with excess vitamin...
  25. Don't call the stores call the main office at 1-800-wegmans. They will be able to help you much easier. I have always found them to be really freindly and they will be able to tell you if and when the product will be in the store near you. It took a while but they finally got the gluten-free Bisquick in my local Wegmans in the regular baking mix section not...
