  1. You are playing with fire. Eventually it will burn you. Cancer isn't the only risk of noncompliance. You also run the risk of developing many autoimmune diseases, neurological problems such as depression, anxiety, you are risking your thyroid, gallbladder, brain even your joints and muscles. The choice is yours but if I was you I would listen to your...
  2. I agree stongly with the previous responses. If your doctor was not looking for celiac he would not find it. In addition I think the broken ribs really need to be addressed. There was a reason for that. It should be found. At the very least they should be evaluating you for osteoporosis. I would ask for a referral to an bone specialist. Also do not...
  3. Sublingual B12 may help with energy and the brain fog. A good gluten-free 'stress' vitamin may also help. The advice to NOT medicate the D if you possibly can is good. You want it out of your system. If your body craves sleep if you can listen to it. I get bone and muscle pain and use St Joseph's baby asprin for the inflammation. Any gluten-free antiinflammatory...
  4. I agree with your doctor that those test results were conclusive, welcome to the family. Many doctors think the diet is impossible to follow, perhaps the reason why he said low instead of no gluten. We know better though. If you haven't already you may want to elimate dairy for a month or two and then add it back in. Add in hard cheeses like cheddar...
  5. I can only give my own opinion as I am not a doctor but personally I would go with the pepto at first and see if that helps before the script. Since you had a good resolution of symptoms when you did a trial there is a good chance, again IMHO that the gastritis was a result of the challenge. Gastritis simply means that your stomach is irritated. In medical...
  6. Thank you all for your kind replies and suggestions. I will make note of the meds suggested and mention them to the doctor as well as asking about the Afobasol. Also I have found an alternate spelling for the drug. It is afobazal.
  7. Thank you for your prayers. I wish he had been able to get help before this tragedy happened. He must have been in so much pain and felt so alone. No child should feel so hopeless. I wish there was something that could have been done to help him. This makes me even more determined to become well enough to take in an at-risk child.
  8. A local student committed suicide today at school with a shot gun in a bathroom at his high school. Those of you who pray if you could say a quick prayer for his family and the other students effected by this tragic event perhaps it will help them deal with this. He had brought the gun and some incediary devices to school with him this morning and apparently...
  9. Vaccine? I wonder how they can vaccinate against a genetic condition. Are you sure this isn't just a drug treatment rather than a vaccine. Do you have any links to this information.
  10. It sounds like they are doing a stool test for malabsorption which would result in fat being present in higher than normal amounts. For that it wouldn't matter if you have been gluten-free for that short of a time. If you might be having an endoscopy done you need to make sure you are stay on gluten until that is done. Your doctor would be the best one...
  11. Most likely yes. The test that was out of range most likely means it was far above the positive level. It would be helpful if you would post the tests, results and ranges. We might be able to give you a better answer.
  12. Yes gastritis, which is stomach inflammation, can be a result of celiac. For my DD it was her only GI symptom. I was also diagnosed with gastritis after my last scope, in my case it was caused by the prep and my severe adverse reaction to it. The doc gave me a handful of different acid blockers to try but I decided to try Pepto Bismal for the pain. It...
  13. I have been going through hell lately because of what is turning into a real nasty divorce. My anxiety levels, which have always been an issue are now going through the roof. My doctor gave me a drug last week which basically shut down my GI tract, (didn't poop for 5 days) and turned me into a zombie who didn't care whether I even ate or moved out of my...
  14. Your 'addiction' to gluteny junk food combined with the anemia is a good indication that your doctors advice to follow the diet despite the negative test results was a good one. Can you find a gluten free junk food, perhaps chocolate for example, to 'binge' on? To get healing from the gluten-free diet you have to follow it strictly. For some of us gluten...
  15. Until there is more diagnosis of the undiagnosed celiacs in this country it is really impossible to say how much of a risk there is. In my particular instance it turned out to be 100% occurance in my immediate family members, my children and even my spouse and there is strong indication that it was present in all my siblings and in my parents. I know we...
  16. I had a histamine reaction with swelling and itchiness in my mouth and throat and broke out in hives. Sugar alcohols give me D very quickly but with stevia it was an allergic reaction. I avoid all artificial sweeteners personally as my body just doesn't deal with them well and thought stevia was the answer. Since then I use agave nectar or 'real' sugar...
  17. My soon to be ex-husband suffered from narcolepsy for years. For him it was definately linked to celiac. He has gotten much better since he went gluten-free. He no longer falls asleep in the middle of conversations and doesn't need a nap after every meal.
  18. Just a quick note about stevia. If you are allergic to ragweed be careful about using stevia. I didn't know they were in the same family and was unpleasently surprised by my reaction to it.
  19. You need to ask your pharmacist or get the printout from the drug company and call them directly. Doctors generally have no idea if a med is gluten free or not. If a med is a generic you need to check gluten statis frequently as companies can change binders at will in generics. If the drug is name brand and is still under patent then the binder need to...
  20. My DH was a constant as a child but in my young adult years it got a bit better and outbreaks would be occasional and mild. Around the time my gut symptoms started in my early 30's it appeared as an everyday thing again but instead of the lesions on my arms and legs I had them on my neck, scalp, face and shoulders with only an occasional spot on my legs...
  21. Yes I have encountered this when I was a substitute teacher. I would suggest getting rubber gloves and a roll of paper towels to wipe off the desks. A small plastic tub with some plain water should work. I would have the kids do it after their snack but at the end of the day rewipe them down yourself to be sure. If the kids can rinse off their gluteny...
  22. You have certainly found the right place to learn about gluten free living, welcome. I agree totally with Gemini. I am also one of the unfortunate ones who don't show up in blood work. That fact delayed my diagnosis by many years. Go ahead and give the diet a good shot, you have nothing to lose but your pain.
  23. Just because your tests were negative that doesn't mean that gluten may not be an issue for you. Since your son is gluten-free I would suggest that you give the diet a good strict try. You may be surprised.
  24. Please do not take the test results as an absolute if they are negative. After all testing is done, both blood and endo make sure you give the diet a good strict try for a couple of months. My doctors reliance on blood work delayed my diagnosis by many painful years.
  25. Stomach bloating is common but leg swelling as far as I know isn't. I would check with your doctor about that especially if when your press on your ankles the depression stays for a bit.
