  1. There are a lot of antioxidents out there that are not made from possible gluten sources if that is what you are looking for. Have you tried pomagrante (sp) juice or Acai, for example? If you are looking to fight stress then you need good doses of B vitamins and C. Do a google search for antioxidant rich foods and for foods rich in B and C vitamins if...
  2. Riceguy gave some good advice however with neuro issues it often takes longer than a week or two for the neuro effects to resolve. I would stay on gluten and call your doctor Monday and get a celiac panel done to start. If you think you want to get a biopsy if the panel is positive then don't go gluten free until it is done. The day you are done with all...
  3. One of the reasons you haven't heard of them is that it is not routine to do a gene panel on every celiac they diagnose. Although I really think they should. You do know at least one family that is DQ1, every single one of them and celiac. Even if it is only on the boards. (See my sig)
  4. I am so sorry for the loss of your first. It is understandable that you would be anxious but I do agree with Patti. I hope your reaction to the cookie doesn't last too long and try to keep in mind that just a glutening alone can sometimes cause our anxiety levels to shoot to the roof for a couple of days. You might also want to talk with your OB/GYN about...
  5. They may be considered gluten free but many of us will react. I wouldn't touch either with someone else's hand and if you do feel you have to take them it would be wise to wait until you are totally healed and then do a challenge with no other risky items to see if you react. There are so many safe supplements available and of course grabbing a handful...
  6. Hi, You can't go off of the gene tests for absolute proof that you either have celiac or you don't. The same applies to blood tests and biopsy. All are tools to aid in diagnosis but none are conclusive with the exception of positive biopsy as far as US doctors are concerned. Even with the biopsy you can find some doctors ignoring the changes that precede...
  7. What you might want to do is get a second opinion as far as the H pylori treatment goes. Not all doctors will treat it as it is something that most of us have and it doesn't always cause issues. Since you were diagnosed with both at the same time it is hard to tell if stomach pain is from one or the other. H pylori is usually, as far as I know, associated...
  8. As far as the blood tests go I had never showed up positive in a blood test and it delayed my diagnosis by many painful years. If even one doctor had suggested I try the diet because of the high risk of false negatives my life would be very different right now. After I was finally diagnosed they tested both my children and my husband and all showed a low...
  9. When the derm did the biopsy did she biopsy beside the rash or the rash itself? Derms that are not familiar with DH will often biopsy the rash and not the clear skin near it. That will result in a false negative. The NIH has a celiac awareness campaign going on and has some good info on DH, here is a link: Open Original Shared Link Also please don...
  10. The best place to go for the answer is the company that makes the product. My health food store is really good about calling or giving me company numbers if they are not on a product. Perhaps yours will check for you or you can try putting the company product name and the word gluten in a search engine. Many times a companies gluten statement will come...
  11. IMHO you have found the answer. When folks have eliminated gluten and seen an astounding resolution of problems you have the answer to whether you need to be gluten free or not. If a gluten challenge causes return of those symptoms to the extent where the person is made extremely ill for months for a blood test or biopsy that may be a false negative even...
  12. I had those also. Combine them with DH and you have one itchy mess. I had dermatographism since childhood and used to have fun 'drawing' on my skin when I was bored. The areas that didn't have DH blisters anyway. I had the opposite effect before my celiac diagnosis with the allergy testing. The only thing I didn't react to was the scratch for beech...
  13. Yes celiac can cause hair loss. For some like myself it is autoimmune related (my hair drops for about 3 weeks after a glutening) for others it is related to malabsorption of vitamins and minerals, with that once the deficencies are taken care of a glutening usually won't cause immediate loss. If however it is male pattern baldness, it is not something...
  14. Have you been checked for diabetes? I am concerned that you are going up to 40 hours without sleep, if I read that right. You may want to consider switching to a different beverage, something without caffine and preferablly without lots of high fructose corn syrup. The more this idea shakes you the more likely it is that your addicted to the Coke which...
  15. It is common for celiacs to not only go through an early menapause but also to have trouble concieving and to suffer more miscarriages. They don't know why this happens but they do note the association. My doctor also refused to test to see if I was perimenapausal because of my age but for me it was definately menapause. The hot flashes ended soon after...
  16. You sound a lot like me prediagnosis if you add in the ataxia which always made me feel like I was falling to the right. Almost all of my neuro issues resolved although it did take a while. I hope your's do also. If you are not taking sublingual B12 you should think of getting some as it may help those nerves fire better and speed your healing.
  17. Personal soap and for shampoo -Nutribiotic Skin Cleanser . If I use a conditioner it is Garnier but I don't use one often. Dish Soap - Palmolive Detergent - Arm and Hammer for sensitive skin Floor Cleaner - Murphy's Oil Soap Window Cleaner - Heinz Distilled Vinegar (it is made from Corn)
  18. I am glad to hear you are sticking with it. It is hard at first but it will become easier with time. I am glad your other tests were good. I can certainly identify with that last paragraph! It sounds like you may have some strong neuro issues going on and unfortunately many of us tend to be on the supersenstive side. It would be a good idea at first...
  19. I can't answer about the original question but am wondering if you are giving the diet a good try? With a DD firmly diagnosed and all your symptoms I would question whether your test was a false negative.
  20. I was simply stating that the folate would skew the B12 results not that you shouldn't take it but only to make the doctor aware that you are taking it and any other vitamins or supplements. Many folks don't think of vitamins as drugs and don't disclose them when the doctor asks what drugs they take.
  21. Welcome to the board and the gluten free world. Sounds like your body is already giving you your answer as many find when they go gluten free. Please do not stop the diet if the doctor says the biopsies were negative. Hopefully the doctor warned you that is a possibility even if you are celiac. Give the diet a good couple months even if the test results...
  22. In additon to the tests mentioned have them check B12, iron, folate, potassium, vitamin D and they will most likely do a CBC and liver panel. Be aware that if you take a multiple vitamin with folate that can give a false normal level to the B12. You may want to consider adding some sublingual B12 to your vitamin regime if you don't take it already. Make...
  23. Your doctor would be the person who would know better what your symptoms fit and what tests should be done. If the pain doesn't resolve with selfhelp measures soon please go ahead and book an appointment. It is better to be safe than sorry.
  24. If you have been gluten light for a while chances are no test is going to be positive for celiac. One thing you can do is to eliminate it totally for a couple of months and then challenge by eating gluten at least 3 times a day for a week. If gluten is an issue two things should happen, you should see a resolution of your symptoms off gluten and then...
  25. She saw improvement within about a month. I have had problems with gastritis myself but for me it comes with injesting soy and once as a reaction to a prep I was given for a colonoscopy. I was handed a bunch of acid blocker script samples but took Pepto instead which helped me heal within a week or so. Gastritis is literally 'inflammation of the stomach...
