  1. If it is fresh meat with no flavorings or broths added it should be gluten free.
  2. Anyplace with a Wegmans. They make gluten-free shopping easy and unlike many other companies they consider distilled gluten grains to not be safe, for those of us who are sensitive it makes telling if we can really eat that pickle or BBQ sauce easy. Wegmans is NY state home based but has markets in other states on the East Coast.
  3. You need pain relief most of all. If you have already called the dentist call your GP and ask for help. Another thing you could try with the dentist is having your husband call and ask for something stronger. He can tell them that the pain is at this point incapacitating and if they still are of no help call another dentist for an emergency appointment...
  4. You should go ahead and ask your doctor for a celiac panel. Your sisters tests show she is making antibodies to gluten but those tests only have meaning for you in the sense that if one family member is effected by gluten others are likely to also. You and your sister have the same genetic 'soup' but you may have inherited different ingredients, so to speak...
  5. Hi and welcome. I don't have much time so this will be short. Bring him here and get him to read as much as you can. Also visit the NIH website, they have a Celiac Disease Awareness Campaign going on. You should also consider getting at least blood testing done ASAP and continue on gluten until you do so. I am glad you have had such a great response...
  6. Not if you want a positive biopsy. You need to be on gluten for at least a couple of months if you have been gluten-free for any length of time. If your reaction to gluten is such that the idea of a couple of months eating it is horrifying you already IMHO have your answer.
  7. This is great news!!!!!! I am so glad things are looking up for you and that you have been able to get a good amount of healing in a short time. Don't go dropping those supplements yet though.
  8. The IV drugs should have been safe. Did she take anything to relax her before the procedure? Some doctors will prescribe a oral sedative to be taken before hand and that could have gotten her. Did she have any prep like with a colonoscopy? The active ingredient in those is gluten-free but the flavoring they use may not be. She also could be having an...
  9. The sulfur dioxide is only an issue if you are allergic to sulfurs. If you normally use products with glucose derived from wheat then the addition of this is not going to make any difference. I choose not to use products with glucose syrup derived from wheat. I am very sensitive and will react. If you are newly diagnosed you might want to do a challenge...
  10. Make sure that he continues on a full gluten diet until the endo is done. Neither the endo, nor the blood tests, nor the gene testing is conclusive when the results are negative. If there is a positive blood test, in a child especially, that is a real good indication that the child has celiac. As far as gene testing goes there are many more celiac associated...
  11. Here is a good article, the info on edema is a little way down on the page: Open Original Shared Link "2. Signs and symptoms of malnutrition and vitamin or mineral deficiencies Symptoms of malnutrition and vitamin or mineral deficiencies include: weight loss, fluid retention, anemia, osteoporosis, bruising easily, peripheral neuropathy (nerve...
  12. Welcome to the board. The available places to dine makes me really jealous. I wish I was closer.
  13. When I feel there will be a need I put a soapy wet wash cloth in a baggie and carry another one with just water on it and something to dry my hands with. Kind of simplistic but I don't care for the hand sanitizers.
  14. Welcome. It is not uncommon to have the first couple of weeks be quite up and down. The constant hunger is not unusual. Give it stuff like fresh fruit and veggies, plain rice, fresh meats. Don't go overboard on the specialty gluten free treats at first. Give your body some time to heal. Your body has likely been deprived of nutrients for a while. When...
  15. If you are choosing to do the biopsy then you can start the diet as soon as the biopsy is done. You don't have to wait for the results. There are false negatives seen in biopsy but false positives on blood tests is very rare.
  16. Yea you are one of us, welcome. With a postive biopsy and positive bloods it leaves no doubt. It is not as unusual as you might think for us to not have gut issues at first. Nutritent defiecencies are very common until the gut heals. Your doctor should run vitamin and mineral panels and most of us benefit from supplements, just make sure they are gluten...
  17. I am currently looking for a doctor and didn't have much luck in the celiac regard. I have however had many very caring and knowledgeable doctors. Two that stick out the most were the orthopedic doctor who operated on my feet, he donated his time and expertise as well as diagnosing the problem in a school exam. Another was my OB/GYN who always went beyond...
  18. Glad to hear things are going well. I second the B12 and mag suggestions. Before you supplement iron do get your levels checked first though. Too much iron can be toxic.
  19. Great Value may use distilled gluten grain vinegar in their products, I don't know for sure this is just a guess. Distilled gluten grain derived vinegars are considered gluten free by processing but some of us react. If that is the case and you are one of the ones who don't tolerate distilled gluten that could be the cause for your reactions.
  20. It will pass and it is normal. Many of us do go through a bit of a grief process and having it around does, I think, make it harder at times. Try to keep some comfort food that you can eat on hand. Whether it is strawberries or another fruit dipped in melted chocolate, gluten free cupcakes that you can make ahead and freeze, whatever you like the most...
  21. Welcome to the board. It sounds like your dropping gluten has already made a real difference in how you feel. That is usually a real good indication that you have issues with it. If you want to have a biopsy done you need to get back onto gluten until those tests are done. I was severely ill and saw a decrease in tummy issues within days, as you did...
  22. I vote for making your own popcorn also. It's easy and if your pan has a glass lid it is fun to watch. You can get air poppers real cheaply also. You can use all kinds of things to season. Herbs, grated cheeses, butter etc. It is important to use gluten free make up and toiletries. There is a thread on here for a good mineral makeup and if you do...
  23. I have seen the same thing as far as the readings go. The blood test is measuring your stores not how well your body is able to utilize B12. It can be awhile after your body stops being able to process B12 before it will show up on blood work as other than a decrease in levels but still in normal ranges. Taking a supplement with folate can also effect...
  24. This was a great post but I think the poster meant to say the tests have a high false NEGATIVE rate. The false negative rate is estimated at about 30% by the NIH.
