  1. Ask when making the appointment if they do help with elimination diets as not all do. Once I had the initial appointment where mine did the skin testing and set up the diet I didn't have to see him again in person during the elimination diet. I would call in once a week to tell them what food I added and if I reacted to it. I was instructed to call if...
  2. It can take up to a week for an intolerance reaction to appear. That is why on a physican guided elimination diet they only have you add a food, in pure form, every 7 days. It sounds like perhaps one of your 'safe' foods may not be as safe for you as you think. If you can find an allergist who will guide you through an true elimination diet they will give...
  3. Your allergist would be the one to go to for help with the elimination diet if you decide to do one. Mine literally saved my life. your allergist can give you the correct 5 starting foods to make sure that it is nutritionally balanced. I added in potatoes first, good little Irish girl that I am and after that wheat. 3 days into the challenge with my cream...
  4. For you ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) for the NP GRRRRR well words can't express what I would like to say about her response to you without getting me warned for swearing. Do ask when you make the GI appointment about the doctors knowledge of celiac. I would be tempted to write a letter to the doctor marking it 'personal...
  5. The 58 means that you were positive for celiac antibodies. That is why the GI had this response " had I only presented with my symptoms and no blood test, he would have pegged me as classic IBS. However the blood test results made him do a biopsy/endoscopy to check for celiac". There is a good chance the biopsy was a false negative.
  6. I would go with your allergists advice and see how you feel. It is not going to be harmfull to give the diet a good strict try. What have you got to lose?
  7. Call your doctors office tommorrow morning and ask to speak to the nurse. Tell her that you want to get the celiac panel drawn. If possible have them also run iron, B12. Your doctor can call in the order or you can pick it up. Then go get the blood drawn and ask the lab to also send the results to you. You will just have to sign a release. You should...
  8. You need to keep in mind also that most doctors only test for DQ2 and 8 in the US. There are other genes that are considered to be related to developing celiac in other countries. There is still a chance of a false negative even with a 3 month challenge but your bodies response to it may allow your doctors to still recognize that you are 'celiac'. Do keep...
  9. There have been a couple that I remember seeing over the years that were able to stay in. You may want to do a board search with the words military and celiac to see if you can find the past posts. If memory served they were well established in their careers at diagnosis and did not have jobs that required them to be in the field living on MREs. A celiac...
  10. It doesn't sound like you have been tested for celiac and IMHO you should be. I would at least get the blood test done if I were you. While it sounds like they have been looking for allergies since celiac is not an allergy those tests would not find it. Also you speak of little bumps on your skin, do they itch? Do they seem to have little blisters? If...
  11. I also have issues with soy. It seems that is in as much stuff as gluten is and it does make it hard. Hellmans has recently come out with a canola based mayo that isn't too bad. For me the oil is a bad as the flour but I do seem to tolerate the lecithin without too much of an issue. Wegmans does have a soy free tuna, it is in a blue can with a label...
  12. What you are experiencing is common and an excellent indication that you do have an issue with gluten. Your body has been very relieved to not be getting what to you is a toxin. You have now added that toxin back into your diet and your body is telling you that it does not like it at all. Unfortunately if you want to a doctor derived diagnois you will...
  13. I am glad the pepto is helping. I used the liquid and found it to be a great aid. At this point you may want to take it only when you need it for pain. One thing I want to mention in case the doctor didn't is that pepto may turn your stool very dark. That is not something to be concerned about.
  14. Since all that was biopsied was the duodenum you are not in the clear. I would suggest that you give the diet a good strict try for a month or so to see if it helps. You also should see a dermatologist and get the area beside the rash biopsied looking specifically for DH. If you have DH you have celiac.
  15. In addition to the excellent advice you have already gotten there is one more thing you may want to consider. Since you have been traveling out of the country it would be a good idea to visit your doctor and get stool and blood tests done just to make sure you didn't pick up any kind of a bug over there.
  16. DO NOT take those tests as conclusive proof you do not have an issue with gluten. Please. My doctors reliance on negative blood work as conclusive evidence that I was not celiac delayed my diagnosis by many years and resulted in some permanent damage. Once you are done with all testing do give the diet a good strict try. Sometimes our bodies tell us what...
  17. Hi Nadia, If you want to see if the diet will help with your issues you really do need to be strict on the diet. Being gluten light just won't do. It may help make your gut reactions less frequent but it will not stop the antibody reaction that leads to lots of other issues. Those antibodies can invade any organ of your body from joints and muscles to...
  18. I have never found a sunscreen that I can use without breaking out. A couple of years ago I came across this company that makes clothing with an SPF factor of 30. They are surprisingly lightweight and stylish. I wear the hats, pants and shirts when I am going to be exposed for an extended period of time. You may want to check them out. Open Original...
  19. If the bloodwork you are having done is for celiac then please stay on gluten. I might also suggest with a due respect for your present doctor that you see if you can find one who listens a bit better. There are many things that folks suffer from that are 'low risk' but that doesn't mean that they may not be something that shouldn't be ruled out. With...
  20. Hello and wecome. I do not have much to add to Mushrooms answer other than to say that I agree completely. Your son has already been diagnosed. I would get him back on the diet ASAP.
  21. Welcome to the board. You do sound like you could be one of us. Do you take supplements? If you are supplementing with folic acid that can give a false high reading on the B12. Has the doctor done a celiac panel on you? That should be your first step. Do be aware that the blood tests and even the biopsies are not as conclusive as many doctors think they...
  22. I would jot down the names and UPC's of the products and contact the company directly.
  23. You should visit your doctor. At the least he will likely want to do an occult blood stool test to see if there is bleeding that you can't see in your stool. He may want to do a scope to be on the safe side. Most likley it is just your hemmies acting up but you should err on the side of caution.
  24. Yes it could be from the lotion. One way to tell would be to stop using it, see if the rash clears up and then use it again in a small area and see if the breakouts come back.
  25. You are so right. I think this sort of thing really hits home with me mainly because of my suicide at age 11. If my brother had found me a few minutes later I wouldn't be here. I worked with at risk kids before I got to sick to work. In the years since far to many of them have died or gone to prison. I was very close to some of them and I have always...
