ARCHIVED Eat/poultry Containing Wheat And Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to JBaby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
With the fresh meats there is only an issue if there is a broth added to the meat. Chicken and turkey are the ones that this is found in as a broth added is not uncommon although it is more common in the ones that are frozen. If broth is added they have to say it is there but if the broth contains barley malt as a flavoring agent it is not required to be... -
ARCHIVED Oxy Powder
ravenwoodglass replied to Lexi's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know about the oxy powder but do have a suggestion and question. If you are sure that you are totally gluten free and keep risks of CC as low as humanly possible and are still having issues you may be having a problem with another food. For me the symptoms you describe were linked to a soy intolerance. Have you tried eliminating soy? -
ARCHIVED Digestive Prob Other Than celiac disease
ravenwoodglass replied to debmidge's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Exttended release tabs have a special coating on the tablet to slow down the release of the drug into the system. Did you get the monograph that comes with the drug? For some drugs the monograph will clearly state that you may see what appears to be the pill in the stool but what is seen is actually the capsule or coating that has not been digested. In... -
ARCHIVED Ruprecht's Lamb Stew
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was finally able to find time to call when they were open. This item is gluten free and very well made. If you can find it and you like a lamb stew you may want to try it. Absolutely everything even the spices they use are on the label. They also clearly label the origin of any starch. For this stew it is tapioca and rice. -
ARCHIVED Duncan Hines Frosting Is Gluten Free!
ravenwoodglass replied to Silly Yak Pete's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I will grab a can tommorrow since I want to make chocolate cupcakes and give them a call. It likely is a safe product but I am so sensitive that I like to be sure. -
ARCHIVED Ongoing Symptoms - Always Thirsty & Hypoglycemic Symptoms?
ravenwoodglass replied to rubyred's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
In addition to the great advice you have gotten I would also ask the doctor for an A1C while I was at it. It will give you an average of you BS over the last 3 months. Also how much protein do you eat. Whenever you eat a carb you should have a protein whether it is a slice of cheese, an egg, beans, a nut butter or even a handful of safe gluten free nuts... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Ppd Test
ravenwoodglass replied to sweetforyounow's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Celiac would not ,to my knowledge, produce a false positive test for Tb - the PPD. Just because you test was negative last year does not mean that it wouldn't be positive this year. In early stages TB has no real nasty symptoms and it is becoming more common in the US. It is fully treatable so hopefully your doctor is following up on this. -
ARCHIVED Super Sensitive And Frustrated With Many Questions
ravenwoodglass replied to sylviaann's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This will sound a bit simplistic perhaps but when your feeling good try the Larabar again and see if the same thing happens. Then you could again after you feeling well try the seasoning. That might help make it a bit easier to narrow down if I was one of those two items and not something you ate in the 3 days before. -
ARCHIVED Duncan Hines Frosting Is Gluten Free!
ravenwoodglass replied to Silly Yak Pete's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not to be a PITA but did you ask about barley malt in flavorings? The reason I ask is because she mentioned the top allergens and since barley malt is not considered an allergen. I would love it if they are gluten free as I really hate to make frosting. -
Neurological issues can take some time to improve. In addition folks usually have to be super strict to see the best results. The gluten challenges you did and your reaction to them is really IMHO the best indication that you were doing the right thing by being gluten free. If I were you I would get back on the diet, become familiar with issues of CC and...

ARCHIVED Pharmacy Not Celiac-friendly
ravenwoodglass replied to OBXMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Contact both the company the pharm works for and also contact the FDA. It is the pharmacists job to check on the safety of any med they give you. Also change pharmacies as soon as possible letting the head office and what ever government agency liesences the pharmacist know what happened . They are not doing their job and need to be either fired or retrained... -

just a short note on the shaving products. I have had good luck by shaving immediately after I shower while the hairs are still soft and I don't have to use any shave cream at all. -

In referrance to the nuts, If you live in an area that has a Wegmans the nuts that they label gluten free will have the circle G. The presence of the G is important. Sometimes it is on one size of a variety but missing from another size. When I called the company to ask why I was told that certain different sizes are produced in different companies and... -
ARCHIVED Celiac 4x Higher In Ibs Patients
ravenwoodglass replied to happygirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I do so wish US medicine would look outside their own narrow little world. There are other genes that are associated with it and clearly recognized in other countries. Perhaps someday the US will catch up on the research. I am glad your family is doing so much better. -
My symptoms have a definate progression. The gut issues resolve with in about 3 days but for full resolution of all the other issues takes about 3 weeks.

ARCHIVED Super Sensitive And Frustrated With Many Questions
ravenwoodglass replied to sylviaann's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My neuro involvement started in childhood. It got severe by the time I was diagnosed. I had to use canes or walls to walk without falling and my reflexes had been gone in my legs by the time I was 10. What helped me the most was sublingual B12. It helps the nerves fire correctly and aids in the healing. For me it took about 6 months before the ataxia... -
ARCHIVED Had My Endoscopy - Do I Try Going Gluten Free?
ravenwoodglass replied to MyHandful's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are false negatives even with the biopsy for many different reasons. Yes you need to get on the diet and give it at least a couple of months. If you were positive on blood tests chances are extremely good that you need the diet. It is not as hard as doctors seem to think it is and you have come to a great place for info on it. The change in the... -

I have had this occur also and as a long time member of the board i find it very troubling to not be able to return messages from other members when they ask a question of me. ARCHIVED Super Sensitive And Frustrated With Many Questions
ravenwoodglass replied to sylviaann's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Sylviaann I am actually Krista but that's okay I should put that in my signature but have never gotten around to it. I believe the vodka that I used started with an L but I don't remember the name cause I rarely drink nowadays. It was clearly labeled as potatoe vodka. For Rum I only drink Bacardi clear and steer away from any of the flavored ones... -
ARCHIVED Becoming A Chemist And Frustrated!
ravenwoodglass replied to DinaB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just got off of a long phone call with a drug company making sure a script I was given was gluten free. I agree with you that the makers of food and drugs really need to label with more accuracy and hopefully someday that will be a reality. We need to know what is in our food and in our drugs and IMHO there is no reason why that should not be done. Makers...
