ARCHIVED Questions About Intrepreting Weleda Statement
ravenwoodglass replied to Lisa16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My best guess would be that it is the alcohol that is being used in the creams. Many consider distilled alcohols gluten free regardless of the source but many of us will react to them. This may sound silly but if you think it may be the nuts I would take some grind them up in a blender and mix them with a bit of a good olive oil and then apply to the inside... -
ARCHIVED Alcoholic Beverages,brands, And Mixes
ravenwoodglass replied to Dolcenotte's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Celiac Sprue Association site also has some good info and I like it because they divide things into foundation (begining) and expanding (after you have healed) stages: Open Original Shared Link Use caution with distilled grain alcohols, as mentioned some of us are very sensitive to them. You may want to wait until you are healed before you try... -
Glad you got a diagnosis. I will agree with the others that you should do the diet before the drug. I had severe DH, my face, scalp, arms, legs, personal areas, back you name it I had blisters in one stage or another and they took literally months to heal. From day one of the diet I started to heal, by a week I had no new outbreaks coming and within 3...

ARCHIVED Tests All Negative - This Does Not Help Me!
ravenwoodglass replied to cdog7's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It wouldn't surprise me at all if when you went to the followup appointment your doctor tells you to keep on gluten and come back in a year and see if those villi are gone yet. Many doctors do not want to diagnose us till we are in the end stages of the disease (total villi destruction). If the diet is helping that is diagnostic. -
ARCHIVED Philosophy Beauty/skin Care Mostly Gluten Free!
ravenwoodglass replied to Dolcenotte's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you are using it and not having any ill effects it most likely is safe. Companies do change formulations and it was a year or so ago that I checked. You may want to check and make sure. The items that differ in the ingredients in this as opposed to the Hope in a Jar are the alcohols and the fragrance and a number of other very chemical names. I am... -
ARCHIVED Digestive Enzyme
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I started to take it because it is good for energy as it is high in B vitamins. It also contains a lot of other nutrients, but I can't find the paper that comes with it so I can't say for sure what. I found it not only increased my energy levels but also my appetite. I also don't know if it is a coincidence but my hair hasn't been so thick since years... -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten Before Blood Test?
ravenwoodglass replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would advise perhaps staying gluten free for a bit and then doing a challenge again if you feel you need to when you are feeling better. -
ARCHIVED Tests All Negative - This Does Not Help Me!
ravenwoodglass replied to cdog7's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
And maybe you should ask for a complete copy of all your test results including the biopsy and endo report. Many doctors do not recognize the different stages of celiac and your biopsy report may reveal that although you still have villi you are being impacted. I agree completely that you do not need anyones permission to be gluten free. Your return to... -

ARCHIVED Prayer Request
ravenwoodglass replied to Guhlia's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thank you for sharing the link. She is very loved and it sounds like things are going as well as they can. Burns like hers are a life altering experience and the support she has from the racing community and her friends and family are wonderful to see and will help her get through this. She will remain of course in my prayers, as she has been. -

ARCHIVED Reaction To Gluten Or Alcohol?
ravenwoodglass replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I used to get drunk from nonalcoholic beer which has a very low alcohol content. I also black out and become very intoxicated from just one gluten grain vodka drink. I can drink 2 or 3 non gluten alcoholic beverages and not have even a hint of a problem and can drink potato vodka with no issues either. I get neuro symptoms from gluten which makes my body... -
ARCHIVED How Long Have I Been A Celiac, And How Much Damage Have I Done?
ravenwoodglass replied to S-J-L's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Sarah, It is very hard to tell when exactly your celiac was triggered but it sounds like it has affected you since 7 or 8. Many of us start out with C as our bodies response to the drop in absorption, trying to draw everything out it can I guess. Many of the other things you mention are also likely celiac related and as such should resolve. No matter... -
ARCHIVED Do Bacteria Cause Celiac Disease?
ravenwoodglass replied to Nancym's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I agree, perhaps they don't think it as much of an issue because they actually look for and find us before all the nasty effects occur. I really wish the US would wise up, maybe then we wouldn't be one of the unhealthiest populations in the industrialized world. -
ARCHIVED Philosophy Beauty/skin Care Mostly Gluten Free!
ravenwoodglass replied to Dolcenotte's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just a word of caution, I contacted them about Hope in a Jar and When Hope is Not Enough. I was told that both were safe, not the case. Hope in a Jar was but the other wasn't. I don't think the unsafe list they gave you was a complete one. I would advise checking each individual product you want to use and be sure to ask them what any vit E ingrediets... -
ARCHIVED Digestive Enzyme
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Before going with a digestive enzyme have you eliminated dairy? All dairy including casien? Many lactose free products will still have casien. That is a common cause of bloating and gas. If you drink soda's drop them out of your diet, that will help also. If you can keep a food diary that may help you pinpoint what is causing the gas and bloating, it... -
ARCHIVED Just Had A Egd/biopsy
ravenwoodglass replied to sherie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I hope you are feeling better today. It does take some time for all the drugs to get out of your system. I had an extreme reaction to the drugs they gave me for mine so I also felt really bad and won't go into that but for you I think today you will feel much better. You can now go gluten-free, you have had the endo so now is the time to start the diet... -
For many years doctors thought that celiac disease was one of those things that people outgrew. One of the reasons for this is because after children heal completely it can take years for the damage to build up enough again for them to be symptomatic again. We now know of course that is not the case. As mentioned the antibodies can attack any tissues you...

ARCHIVED Rectal Challenge Test Kit?
ravenwoodglass replied to jfryberger's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
To my knowledge the rectal challenge is not available in the US. It is too bad because it is quite sensitive but it is not in use here, perhaps because it is so sensitive. Perhaps after they develop a pill to push it will be used but not at present. This also would not be a test available for home use because it requires a biopsy of the tissue. There... -
ARCHIVED Teenager Facing Celiac Panel After 5 Months gluten-free
ravenwoodglass replied to Mattie's mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You son has had a positive dietary response and became ill after adding gluten back in. That IS diagnostic. The best diagnosis there is. As many as 30% of us in even in the end stages of the disease will show negative on testing. My repeated negative blood tests lead me into a celiac world that is not fully recoverable from. My doctors never told me... -
ARCHIVED Linchen Sclerosis A Part Of Celiac Disease?
ravenwoodglass replied to kayavara's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I don't know if this specifically has been identified as being associated with celiac but any autoimmune disease has the potential of being triggered by celiac. The autoimmune process that results from celiac disease can effect almost every organ of the body. If you have this and you are celiac or think you might be the gluten free diet could give you... -
ARCHIVED Need Info About Getting Tested
ravenwoodglass replied to canuckchick's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Whether you are 'celiac' yet or 'just' gluten intolerant is really in the scheme of things immaterial. You still need to be just as vigilant if you are gluten intolerant as if you are full blown celiac. The blood tests are also not real great, even the new one misses 30% of us. The fact that you eliminated gluten and then reacted when you added it back... -
ARCHIVED Is Cc A Danger From "bird Seed"?
ravenwoodglass replied to toomuchagony's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do feed the outside birds but am very careful with the seed. Unfortunately I did end up having to find a home for my inside bird. I tried for a couple of years but the constant CC was just too much for me. My guy was really messy though, if your finches don't toss seed much you might be able to get away with keeping the area around the cage really clean... -
ARCHIVED My Eyes
ravenwoodglass replied to wwebby's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My vision has changed also. And when glutened I generally have to go back to my prediagnosis glasses for a while. Night blindness is still a big issue for me though. -
ARCHIVED When To Test Asymptomatic Children Who Have A Coeliac Parent
ravenwoodglass replied to imagine22's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In countries where they routinely test for celiac they do it at about age 4 and then again at puberty. If the child is asymptomatic. Symptoms can range from upset tummies, to mood issues to trouble concentrating to growth issues, bone and muscle pain, dental cavities etc. They can be quite subtle and come on slowly and the child and family may not be aware...
