  1. Ground beef that is just beef is safe but...... I had the same issue when shopping at a small local grocery. It seemed I got sick whenever I ate cut fruit or ground meat from that particular store. I discovered that the produce was cut and packaged at the same huge cutting board where everyone spread out their lunches. I stopped buying fruit and veggies...
  2. The gas itself should not be an issue. Other meds may be though. Make sure you talk to the anesthesiologist and to your doctor. If they give him something to relax him before surgery make really, really sure it is gluten-free. Many doctors will prescribe Xantac nowadays which has no gluten free formula available. Make sure to get the script or the name...
  3. I think the mods do a fantastic job also. Additionally if he has RA and fibro make sure he is not celiac.
  4. You also could limit butter to stuff like toast and use olive oil for pastas, veggies and a lot of your of your sauteing and cooking. Hummus a dip made with chick peas, chi chi if your Italian , tahini, a sesame seed paste, garlic, olive oil and a dash of lemon juice is really tasty and also can help lower cholesteral. It is really easy to make. Most...
  5. I would give the diet a good strict try. You may be able to cancel that appointment in Feb. if your dietary response is good. Relying on blood tests delayed my diagnosis for years and the endo is far from perfect. You have gotten a lot of good advice. There are different ways to go and you have found a great place for info and support whichever way you...
  6. It seems that these are a Kraft product so they should be safe if there are no gluten ingredients listed. If you have a phone number or website on the bar you may want to contact them to be positive.
  7. The little red feet stopped dancing on my soul at about week three. I had suffered all my life and even attempted suicide at 11. The only time I have any depression issues now is for about 24 hours after I am glutened. Still a bit of anxiety but nothing not handleable but my depression is now gone, gone, gone. My DS saw the same effect also but for him...
  8. DO NOT cut those pills without checking with your pharmacist first. You could try going to your regular doctor and telling him you want to wean off of the drug. He may be able to prescribe either a lower dose, a different drug that will help you wean off, or give you a safe schedule to wean. Some drugs can just be stopped with no ill effects but many others...
  9. This is quite accurate but ONLY when we are diagnosed in time. There are links between dementias and undiagnosed celiac, there is also a strong corelationship between undiagnosed celiac and cancers of the GI tract and lymphomas. The chronic inflamation can damage our hearts and other organs. Undiagnosed we do live off medications that do no good and are...
  10. Those little ones are so lucky to have you guys. There is nothing like looking at the Xmas tree holding a little one and watching their faces when the lights go on. It sounds like you and your family are going to give her the best present any child can have, a warm and loving home with lots of hugs and kisses.

    ARCHIVED Oas

The last post reminded me of something I should have posted when I responded before. When I was first seen by my allergist he did skin testing for allergies. Out of some 90 or so items showed up positive many doctors would have stopped there and just pronounced 'environmental allergies'. This was a really savvy doctor who when he saw the results, the only...
  12. I am going to be short and simple, read my signature I never thought that after 15 YEARS of daily D and nerve damage so bad that I could not walk without canes or walls, could not hold a cup (okay that was a combo of nerves and arthritis) my parethesias were constant and I had balance issues since childhood (gluten ataxia) I had also lost leg reflexes...
  13. It is an US site. You check what you feel needs to be checked, you can avoid what you choose to avoid, I shall choose to listen to my body and check products. My reactions are severe and obvious. I am not saying that coke is 'lying' with the labeling laws they have in effect now they can legally say that this is gluten free if it tests below a certain...
  14. Blood tests on children under the age of 5 are almost useless. You should give the diet a good try no matter what the results are. Don't trust blood tests, for you or for your child without giving the diet at least a couple of months, strictly.
  15. Will she be willing to just try the diet? I had many degrading and depressing doctor appointments and just wish I knew that the diet response was the truest test there is. Please encourage her to just get on it if she has already had her blood draw.
  16. Great news, one of the best things you can do, IMHO is to introduce her to this site and the one by the celiac sprue association. Open Original Shared Link I hope being gluten-free helps her as much as it has myself and others. Many do eat gluten-free successfully in restaurants, if she is a regular at a couple they should be happy to make sure her...
  17. Brian have they tried budesonide? It is a steroid type of med but is metabolised differently. Another treatment is cyclosporine but that is a immunosuppressant and your doctors may not want to use it. I wish I could find more. I hope they can figure out something to help you soon.
  18. Doctors are idiots in this country. The majority of them do not even realize that there are neurotoxic features to gluten intolerance. You have got to help yourself unfortunately. The only thing you can do is to do your best to be as gluten free as you possibly can. Do not take any chances on CC issues, many can but you can not. At least not now. Go...
  19. You also have another option which is to call and ask if they can send you the slip for the lab and maybe have the results waiting when you get there the day of your appointment. If you were referred and your doctor suspected celiac at the time of the referral that may be very possible. Your GP could also order it and have the results sent both to him and...
  20. Thank you so much for posting this. I have an allergy to soy in addition to gluten and will be heading to the store for this as soon as I get shoveled out.
  21. I googled refractory sprue treatments and came up with quite a bit. I also know someone who was diagnosed with this a couple of years ago. She is doing much better and had mentioned being on a specific drug. I will see if I can find out what helped her as soon as I see her. Brian one thing I did learn by googling is that your doctor seems to have been...
  22. I am just seeing this now. I am so sorry things look so bleak. I will continue to pray for Noah and his family. Miracles do sometimes happen. I am praying for one here. When I was 11 and in a coma my family was told the same thing. All we can do is pray and wait.
  23. The fact that your son is wanting to do the diet is great, let him. At present there are only two genes commonly recognized as celiac genes and there are an abundance of GI doctors that know nothing, literally about the neurotoxic effects of gluten. You could test with Enterolab they can do fecal testing for antibodies to gluten, casein, soy, eggs and yeast...
  24. The one thing we can count on with this diet is that it is confusing and different 'experts' will tell us different things. The key for each of us is whether we react or not. Some of us have been misdiagnosed for so long that our damage and sensitivity can be extreme. The only way we have to know for sure if stuff is safe when it is questionable, like...
  25. Don't trust those blood tests, trust your body. Trusting the blood tests almost killed me. Doctors wouldn't tell me what 'sprue' was, just that I was lucky I didn't have it cause I wouldn't be 'able to eat anything' (a quote from my rheumy). No one bothered to tell me what sprue was or suggest the diet. I would literally be almost dead before an allergist...
