ARCHIVED What Exactly Do Your Abdominal Pains Feel Like?
ravenwoodglass replied to Becca78's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Everyone is different and I think the pain can change for the same person. For the first 5 or six years of my constant D it was actually usually painless and without warning. I was almost happy when I started to get cramps, at least I had some notice. For the last 5 years the pain was so severe that it is almost indescribeable. Cramps and spasms that... -
"Wheat, wheat starch, malt extract, malt flavoring. Am I missing something folks? " We also need to watch out for natural flavors, a common way to sneak in barley malt. Carmel coloring which can be derived by 'browning' any starch needs to be checked, if it's just says carmel thats not a concern because it is cane sugar derived (unless the rules changed...

ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!
ravenwoodglass replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Really quick shipping on those sample packages, I got mine yesterday. Seems I will have to go back and get another one as my skin is darker than I thought. So very glad they will let you do that. I think I will add in a lip color this time. So long since I could feel safe about a lipstick. What a great company. Thanks so much to the original poster... -
I have DH and I lose a lot of hair when glutened, and a lot that grows back in is brown. Not all but a great deal of it. Some do have a genetic predisposition to male pattern baldness and early greying but there are a lot of us that have been balding, thinning and greying due IMHO not just to nutritional deficiencies but also due to the autoimmune process...

ARCHIVED Treatment For Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Joe Hoffman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
On the salad issue, I had the same problem and one day made a salad without any lettuce of any kind. Raw yellow and green squash, seedless cucumbers, shredded carrots etc. I find that I can tolerate a 'saladless' salad okay as long as the dressing is non gluten grain vinager derived. For a quick lunch a small can of chichi beans or a little meat and you... -
ARCHIVED I Need Everybodies Imput On This, Please!
ravenwoodglass replied to ShayBraMom's topic in Publications & Publicity
If we can't find them we may be able to make them up ourselves. I know there is at least one place in my small city where they make those advertising things you can put on your car, the stuff made with a plastic that just sticks there. I love the "Got more gas than your car? Think Celiac" perhaps an after Xmas project will be to see if I can make some up... -

ARCHIVED Nestle's French Vanilla Liquid Coffeemate?
ravenwoodglass replied to LLatham's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It should say gluten free right on the bottle, not in a real obvious place if I remember correctly. I used to use this stuff every day until soy stopped liking me. -
This has happened to some extent with me also. I don't think I will ever get back to all brown but any is an improvement. I have noticed also at times when I get glutened and have a lot of hair loss it seems much of it grows back in brown not white. I also started going gray really young, like under 18.

ARCHIVED Nutrition And Vitamins
ravenwoodglass replied to MrMark's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The one supplement most celiacs really need in the first few months is sublingual B12, a for sure gluten-free one. Your digestive system needs to heal before you can properly store and utilize it again and the sublingual form will bypass the digestive system and go straight to the blood and brain. Other than that a good diet of naturally gluten free foods... -
ARCHIVED I Was Crying Like A Baby
ravenwoodglass replied to Kathy'sUnicorns's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No your not nutty at all. I am 5 years into this and I still sometimes get wistful over long john silver shrimp or kentucky fried chicken. Many of us do find that we have a period of phases of 'mourning' this is natural, you have lost something familiar and comforting (foods) and it can be difficult at times. Got any leftover crossants? This might sound... -
ARCHIVED Raynaud's Phenomenon
ravenwoodglass replied to Joyous's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My DS has Raynaud's, it doesn't bother him as much gluten free but he still has it. I have a different condition that makes you covered in purple splotches called livedo reticularis that is in total remission unless glutened. Makes it easy to tell if your sick or glutened when your arms and legs turn purple For the Raynauds make sure you keep your hands... -

ravenwoodglass replied to Sailing Girl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
There is a link between a lot of neuro "mental' disorders and gluten. Try putting celiac and neurological manifestations in a search engine. There has been stuff with links posted here and there is quite a bit on the net. -
ARCHIVED Help!
ravenwoodglass replied to sickchick's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There are some people who are intolerant to cow's milk, sugar and or protein, that can tolerate goat milk but they are both still milk. Because milk is an allergin they need the label. The only way to tell if you'll tolerate goat milk products is to try them. But if you have severe reactions to lactose or casien you should wait to challenge goat products... -
I found it interesting that the person who has this went to another country had no problems with the fruit there. I wonder if the lacto-resin that we apply to even organic fruits might have something to do with it?

ARCHIVED Accuracy Of Fecal Anti-gliadin Slga Testing
ravenwoodglass replied to artsy67's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My stomach problems and migraines ceased almost immediately, within 2 weeks. My nerve issues slowly repaired and the difference was noticeable within 6 months with some repair still going on after 5 years, but remember my nerve damage started at 4 so 5 years is not a lot compaired to the 40 years it took for me to get to the point I was at. My DH resolved... -
ARCHIVED Please Help With My Test Results........
ravenwoodglass replied to user00008's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am not even going to try to give you all the things that could cause that high of a level of platelets. Have you been back to the doctor yet? There are most likely a number of tests that he will want to run and he will be looking at other symptoms. For anyone here to give you more than a wild guess on this would be very difficult and as some of the causes... -
ARCHIVED Can Stress Mask celiac disease Blood Test Results?
ravenwoodglass replied to threedee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like your family is a great position to support you with the diet and vice versa. I hope you make up your mind soon and just do it. If you can't do it for you do it for that little baby, you do want to be able to be a happy, healthy Dad who will be around to jog her little ones on your knee when the time comes. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else With Keratosis Pilaris?
ravenwoodglass replied to shai76's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This would not be PN. Peripheral Neuropathy affects the arms and legs and usually presents as a pins and needles sensation that can progress to a burning that is hard to relieve. However this could definately be nerve related due to celiac, but it sounds more like a misfiring. It should resolve gluten-free but you can hurry it along by picking up a sublingual... -

I hope she is, that also made a big difference for our older pets. We use the Innova Evo line. It is so hard to deal with our furry friends pain. I am thinking of you both and hoping you can give her a few more pain free years. -
ARCHIVED Help! Seriously Dry Skin
ravenwoodglass replied to loco-ladi's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Neutrogena makes a Norweigan Formula that comes in a white tube. It is gluten-free and our family even uses it as a lip balm. It is very thick and has been able to heal my cracked hands overnight. I also use Suave lotions, they will clearly label gluten ingredients and do make one with oats so don't get that one but most are okay.
