ARCHIVED Reliability Of Blood Tests In Toddlers
ravenwoodglass replied to covsooze's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have to agree with this. Relying on blood tests as a adult delayed my diagnosis by many years. No doctor ever told me anything about the diet other than I should be glad the tests were negative because I wouldn't be able to eat anything. The blood tests are horribly unreliable even for adults but for children it is even more of a 'crap shoot'. I would... -
ARCHIVED Powdered Ranch Dressing?
ravenwoodglass replied to KrisT's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Don't lose hope on being able to throw away those scripts. I made quite a private production out of flushing all my meds down the toilet about 6 months after diagnosis. I am now 4 years post diagnosis and haven't had to add a single one back in. It will get easier with time and I hope you feel better soon. -
ARCHIVED Upset About What Colleauge Did To Me!
ravenwoodglass replied to jesscarmel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I can not believe that someone like that is allowed to work with children. Frankly this person needs to lose their job IMHO. You definately need to let your supervisor know, but I would do it in Wed. after taking 2 days of sick time. I would report directly to the supervisor what made you sick when you call in Monday. Your 'freind' should cover your... -
ARCHIVED A Question About Enterolab
ravenwoodglass replied to IMResident's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This makes me so sad. I really hope your son will see the light, for his sake as well as your grandchildrens. Celiac related liver disease killed my twin at a very young age. It is not a 'nice' way to go. How is he going to feel when his son is grown and is stunted in height and comes to him saying that they found he has celiac and that is the reason... -
My symptoms started around 5 when I was impaled. They excaberated when I was 10 and had surgeries on both legs for club feet and other skeletal abnormalities. Then again at 11 when I attempted suicide. Symptoms stayed the same with severe neuro impairment, minor GI troubles and bone pain until after my DS was born after 10 years of trying to get pregnant...

ARCHIVED I Ate Chicken Nuggets After Talking To My New Doc -- Hellp!
ravenwoodglass replied to chgomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I won't add my opinion on challenges, for one thing I don't think I'll need to when you find out what my reaction was. I was feeling better gluten-free after years of very serious and painful illness but my GI insisted we do a challenge and a biopsy to prove it and rule out other stuff. I was so sick from the challenge that when the time came to go to the... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Or Optimum?
ravenwoodglass replied to mythreesuns's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would go with the enterolab tests. Mainly because the Elisha testing the other lab does didn't pick up my gluten intolerance. -
ARCHIVED Dh Iodine Test On My 10 Year Old -yikes!
ravenwoodglass replied to Isabella's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Iodine will cause a DH rash in sensitive people. You would put some on your skin cover it with a bandage and watch for the rash. The reaction is not typical and I would not only not do it again I would contact her doctor and have her allergy tested for reactions to the iodine that are more allergic in nature. Although if the skin the iodine was applied... -

ARCHIVED Grilled Cheese And Tomato Soup
ravenwoodglass replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I also vote for the Kinnikinnick or Gluten Free Panty's French Bread mix. I haven't had it in a while but Heinz makes a great gluten-free tomato soup. This is imported from ENGLAND and I used to find it in the import food at my grocery store. I had 3 cans the week I found it but now am avoiding nightshades and haven't had it in a while. It tasted just... -

ARCHIVED Celiac And Other Autoimmune Diseases
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think this is quite possible. I also question that some are asymptomatic. I think there are so many other body systems that are effected, some long before GI symtpms develop, and so many things that we accept as normal that many don't realize are symptoms. Take for example my rumbing tummy, from childhood my tummy was so loud that you could hear it across... -
ARCHIVED Warning Imodium Liquid Is Not Gluten Free
ravenwoodglass replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think with the issue with the liquid calling again may be the way to go. I called in July because I wanted to take a dose before a long car ride. Body didn't need it but my mind did If the product does or did contain gluten I would imagine they would be working to remove it. The more calls with questions the more quickly they will do this. The rep... -
Did you ask the pharmacist to check to make sure it was gluten-free? You have been gluten-free for a year, I just want to make sure you are checking everything and dealing with CC issues. Have you eliminated it from your cosmetics and toiletries, pet foods and craft supplies? It may of course not be the case with you but for myself and my son...

ARCHIVED Celiac And Other Autoimmune Diseases
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Could this be only one of many possible triggers? For one example, many women find that they become full blown celiacs after the birth of a child. Does that mean that they all had the adeno virus at the time of pregnacy? My first symptoms developed after I was impaled and had to rescue myself when I was about 5. Where does the virus fit in here? I do... -

ARCHIVED Warning Imodium Liquid Is Not Gluten Free
ravenwoodglass replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I confirmed it by calling the company when I first read this post. The answer from the immodium rep on the phone was that yes it had gluten and the other products other than the caplets had not been tested yet. I told her how much I appretiated their product containing this poison, and I am afraid I wasn't very nice. When I asked her if they realized that... -
ARCHIVED Eat 2 Pizzas,.. Then Test?
ravenwoodglass replied to PatrickCA's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Bad plan. It will take a while, some doctors say about 3 months, to eat enough gluten to get the antibodies built back up in your blood. Even then you may run into a false or low negative. Your Enterolab tests are reliable. You do need to drop the gluten. -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Other Autoimmune Diseases

The first point you make is what contributed or directly caused the death of my twin brother. He died a long time ago and all the doctors could tell us was that his liver had been destroyed, most likely since birth. He was still a teen when he died of cirrosis. Not all celiacs have only a mild elevation. The second statement about these circulating... -
ARCHIVED Peripheral Neuropathy...
ravenwoodglass replied to sparkles's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well Doll has basically said it all very well. I also had neuropathy before celiac diagnosis that did resolve for the most part. It did however begin to come back before I was diagnosed with diabetes. I consider myself very fortunate that they again resolved when my BS got under control. Try and keep good control of your sugar but for most if the neuropathies... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results
ravenwoodglass replied to mcs12's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome. I wish I had know about Enterolab and celiac.com myself years ago. It isn't easy at first but you'll get it soon. The amount of knowledge and the nice folks on this board are invaluable. I hope you get relief soon. -
You should check out enterolab and their stool testing. You have not been gluten free very long and it can take a while to heal. Cutting out dairy is often a good idea for a bit. The villi that help you digest milk proteins are the same ones that gluten damages. Many can add dairy back in after 6 months or so of healing. You may be able to tolerate...

As someone who had, notice the past tense there, arthritis not RA marker positive but RA symptom like, fibro, Sjorns, Alopecia and at different times was thought to have MS and Lupus I have to wonder about this too. See I am in complete remission from all of the above. Damage to, for example, my joints remains of course but I am symptom free. They were all... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Decide Which Diagnosis To Pursue?
ravenwoodglass replied to mythreesuns's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I could be wrong but I believe ferritin levels are the iron levels. Even a low normal should be addressed with supplements or increasing the amounts of food that is high in the nutrient. If you take a supplement make sure it has both magnesiun and potassium and if you don't already you may want to add a sublingual B12 while you are healing, all cetified...
