  1. I have seem some oats recently that were imported from Ireland, one even had a wheat-free symbol. Has anyone tried eating this? I know US oats are a big NO, but are Irish Oats okay?
  2. Sounds like your party will be fantastic. Have fun, relax and keep your fingers out of the icing.
  3. For the first 6 months I also avoided any dairy other than yogert. I added dairy back then and now have no problems with it. My DH has been the hardest to fight, it seems to reactivate very easily, after reading 'Dangerous Grains' I have massively cut my rice intake , I find this harder to do than gluten elimination and haven't cut it totaly, I still consume...
  4. I lost over half my hair volume, you could see my scalp, and my hair was rapidly turning snow white. Within 3 months gluten-free it was starting to grow back. It is now almost 3 years since diagnosis and my hair is so thick now I had to give up my natural bristle brush, it won't go through it anymore. Oh and what has grown back is brown, I have even found...
  5. Please give a gluten-free diet a try, it may also help with your thyroid and insulin levels. Don't give up hope, it took ten years but I did manage to have 2 children while still being poisoned by gluten. Please try being gluten-free for awhile, it very well may help and you will avoid the osteo and early menopause that so many of us deal with.
  6. Both my son and I have ADD. He was home from school last weekend and he had an interesting take on ADD when we were discussing it. He no longer considers this a dificency. As he said, " I realize now that I can think on many levels. I can think about one thing on the surface, like a instructors lecture while at the same time planning something completely...
  7. In my case about $17,000 (that's not a typo). That's a year folks. I was finally diagnosed by a savvy physical therapist who insisted I go to an allergist.
  8. I would strongly suggest you add grain vinigar with a great deal of caution. Some do not react to this but in my families experience grain vinegars and distilled alcohols lead to DH sores and a strong reaction. Try it if you want but watch for a reaction.
  9. YES, I developed agoraphobia from being so sick for so long. I fight it on a daily basis, I can now go out for a couple hours during the day but have not been out in the evening now for over 5 years. I make plans to go somewhere then find reasons not to. It all boils down to many years of conditioning, you eat, you get sick, I never knew when things would...
  10. You are alos avoiding barley and rye, right? I don't live in the UK so don't know if you have neutrogena there but many (but not all) of their shampoos soaps and conditioners are gluten-free. Most companies have a number you can call on the product to be sure, I have found that to be the best way to go.
  11. Please be careful with the smarties. I love these and have been severely poisened by them. When I called the company they said they dusted the lines with flour but that the smarties themselves were gluten-free! They may have changed this practice call to make sure.
  12. Just a note, if I had only gone off blood work I would still be eating gluten and still be sick. You are doing the right thing by continuing to pursue this with your doctor but don't be afraid to give the diet a try before you say for sure that gluten isn't a problem.
  13. Your so lucky. I was 45 and had been sick for 15 years, although the depression. DH and nuerological effects started when I was about 7. They couldn't figure out why I had poison ivy all year round. Duhhh. I went through years of very painful shots for that. I was almost totally disabled for the last 5 years before I was diagnosed. And I am not unusual ...
  14. I have to strongly disagree with this. There are risks inherent with any procedure, if a dietary change has helped you know your answer. As to other food intolerances they can be found by working with an allergist and doing an elimination diet. As to weight gain or loss, I beleve it varies for many. Most of my weight loss was fluid, I had severe edema but...
  15. Please don't rely on just blood tests or endo for a diagnosis. The possibility of a false negative is VERY real. My doctors relied on blood tests for years (over 5) telling me I was fine, it was all in my head The diet is the true test.
  16. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  17. Call the company to find out for sure, many brands won't be.
  18. Thanks, I had many delitrious effects on my reproductive system, infertility problems (10 years), endometriosis, miscarriages, severe PMS (PMDD), postpartum depression bordering on psychosis, and extremely early menopause. But PCOS, not as far as I know.
  19. I would have them blood tested but not neccessarily endo. Also there is a company that I am sure others will post about, don't know the name, that can test a cheek swab sample for the genetic markers. This might be a pain free way to look at the kids.I would also make the house gluten-free. If the unaffected kids want to eat gluten let them off premises...
  20. I don't know, I am smack in the middle between Rochester and Syracuse. Where is Amhurst?
  21. Thanks Kaiti, I have both dogs and cats and am always handwashing after feeding them, I never thought of the licking issue! Are there any wheat free pet foods even out there?
  22. Hi, Do you consider the Finger Lakes western NY?
  23. bloating - looked 6 months pregnant constant diarhea (10 years) after many years of severe constipation gas nausea full body edema vision disturbances - migraines balance issues - ataxia fatigue low iron low B12 anxiety depression stomach cramping anorexia, neither my son or I ever feel hungrey brain fog throat irritations hands and...
  24. I've gotten a great deal of relief from the gluten-free diet. It still feels like I am peeing glass when I get glutened, and I will also have microscopic bleeding when that happens. But if I am gluten-free I have no problems and have even seen an improvement in incontinence problems I had since childhood. For me there is a definate connection.
