  1. The damage to the villi can be patchy and easily missed. The scalloping can also be seen early on before severe villi damage is present.
  2. Unfortunately gene testing can be problematic if you don't have one of the two most common genes for celiac. That doesn't however mean you can't have it. My genes are a case in point. I am firmly diagnosed but lack either of those two genes. However in the Middle and Far East the genes I carry are considered to be associated with celiac. It can be very confusing...
  3. Dosey have you spoken with your doctor about the anxiety issue? The doctor could have given you a small script for an antianxiety med to take before your trip for an endo. With someone else driving of course. Interestingly celiacs who are suffering from depression often either get no relief from antidepressents or are even made worse. It is not well known...
  4. I get this also so your not alone. It does seem an odd effect but I think the inflammation that comes with a glutening has something to do with it. Hopefully you will feel better soon.
  5. Sorry you are struggling so much. I think once the tests are done and you can do a gluten free trial that you will see a difference but it may take some time. Hopefully the agoraphobia will be relieved once you are feeling better. If it doesn't get better don't be afraid to seek help for it. Glad to hear you have support at home as that can make a world...
  6. I was speaking only about prescription and OTC meds. A lot of foods and herbals do have barley or oats but I haven't encountered either of those in meds except perhaps something prescribed by a naturopath or in supplements.
  7. I do as Adalaide suggested. However i do not ask if the med is gluten free. I say I am allergic to wheat since wheat starch is considered to be gluten free by processing.
  8. It sounds like you are one of us who is being effected neurologically. Celiac can impact brain function and be a direct contributor to problems like depression. Antidepressants often don't help and can at times make things worse. Don't let your doctor push you onto them if the diet itself relieves those symptoms. Celiac can also cause inflammation which can...
  9. While gluten cannot be absorbed through intact skin if you have open sores it can IMHO be absorbed into the blood stream through those sores. Celiac is an autoimmune reaction and having gluten in contact with any body tissue can keep the autoimmune reaction going. Also if you are using products containing gluten most will leave some sort of residue which...
  10. Have you checked your hair care products for wheat?
  11. I found the Toasted Onion flavor of these a couple days ago. Pricey but really good. The ingredients are exactly the same only with onion added.
  12. The people who were 'taking care of you' should have called an ambulance. Glad you are still with us. Throwing up a black tar like substance can mean you are suffering a stomach bleed. Don't know if it is related to being gluten intolerant but developing a tolerance for alcohol can be a sign of alcoholism. Please keep in mind that just because you don't feel...
  13. Great post OP. I also have read about the mucosal challenge where a gluten suppository is used either rectally or orally. The tissue is then biopsied a few hours later to look for the antibodies. This test means that suspected celiacs do not have to poison themselves for weeks or months for a chance to be diagnosed. I first read about this years ago and...
  14. Some of us have additional intolerances to foods other than gluten. Many can't tolerate any dairy until well healed. Some, including myself, react to soy. Most supplement drinks contain one or the other of those two. Maybe try dropping them both for a while to see if it helps. Also be sure to check that any medications, both OTC and script are gluten free...
  15. Make sure your doctor does the newer DGP tests once you are finished with your challenge. When you see your new doctor on Monday be sure to detail The symptoms you had before you went gluten free, How severe they were, How long you were gluten free and how strict you were. What symptoms resolved on the diet and did they resolve completely or just...
  16. I hope you made sure that your allergist will deal with intolerances as well as true allergies. My allergist literally saved my live because my false negative blood tests meant the GI wouldn't even consider a biopsy. A good allergist will give you a starting point for an elimination diet, a good idea for the both of you IMHO. Please don't put all your symptoms...
  17. This is a concern you should discuss with your OB/GYN. I also am very petite and gave birth naturally to a 10 lb baby. My mom was only about 98 lbs pregnant with twins and had no issues. If folks in your work environment are treating you in a patronizing way you may want to seek out some help to become more self assertive and be sure that you are dressing...
  18. Did they test your B12? It should be over 500 not over 250 as the old normal level low point used to be. It won't hurt to try a sublingual B12 supplement to see if it helps. Do tell your doctor you are supplementing though because supplementing will raise the levels in the blood tests.
  19. Since you have been gluten light you cannot assume that you are not celiac. You also cannot assume that your poor child is not celiac as testing on little ones has even more false negatives than adult tests do. I really hope you are soon done with testing and can get your child gluten free for at least a couple of months. The symptoms and damage that may...
  20. Getting one of the first appointments in the day is a good idea. I also bring in my own haircare products from home and have my stylist use those. Mine has no issue with that. Hopefully this won't impact your healing too much. Let your doctor know your concerns before the next biopsy. Just tell the doctor you got accidentally glutened a couple of times...
  21. Welcome to the board. Have you made sure the supplements and any other meds you take are gluten free? Did your doctor rule out any other issues before you decided to go gluten free? What are you typically eating? Whole unprocessed foods cooked at home are safest. Are you living with gluten eaters? If you are living with them are you making sure you are doing...
  22. I do hope this is not a reoccurance of your cancer. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Can you find a different brand of Rice Milk? Rice Dream is processed with barley and is a problem for many of us. Also does your granola contain oats? Even if they are gluten free oats some of us react to the protein in oats whether they are certified gluten free or not...
  23. Have you talked to your doctor about your symptoms and their impact on your functioning? Since you have positive blood tests and experience clear symptoms post glutening maybe they can give you their 'official' diagnosis without need of a challenge.
  24. I am first going to state that this is my personal opinion and experience. I am not a medical professional. I was prescribed this drug a few years ago. I read up on it and the black box warning that it comes with before I picked up the first script. I went back to my doctor and explained that the symptoms in the black box were the same as the symptoms that...
  25. My alllergist literally saved my life. I show false negative on the older tests. I did have to look a bit to find one who would deal with intolerances as well as true allergies so make sure you ask if they will before you make the appointment as many won't. A good allergist will do true allergy testing and then give you a starting point for a true elimination...
