  1. You could be detoxing but you could also be getting CC somewhere. We do often become more sensitive to very small amounts of gluten after we are gluten free. Make sure you are doing everything at home to make sure that you are safe and since you are experiencing skin issues do make sure all your shampoos etc are free of gluten. Welcome to the board and congrats...
  2. Your doctor has confirmed you are celiac and it is in your medical record plus your body tells you clearly when you eat gluten. IMHO you have a great doctor. Make sure he does a vitamin and mineral panel on you to check your levels and do urge 1st degree family members to get tested.
  3. Your regular GP can order the vitamin level checks for you. Have you seen improvement on the diet? If you are still having issues then do find another GI that is more celiac knowledgeable. If you are doing well on the diet and symptoms have resolved then IMHO your regular doctor should be able to handle the vitamin and mineral level checks.
  4. In addition to the great advice you have already gotten if you are not feeling better by tomorrow then do call your doctor and go back in. You may want to ask for stool samples to be tested as your symptoms could also be food poisoning.
  5. Your ped can do the blood test. The idea of getting them to scedule both for the endo the same day is a good one if it can be done. If your DD has positive bloods or symptoms that might increase the possibility of the gastro agreeing to accomodate that. Do keep in mind there can be false negatives in both the blood and biopsy. .
  6. You should report this doctors behavior to his higher-ups and or the AMA. To say such a thing to a child, especially since you are already diagnosed with DH yourself is not excusable. IMHO he should have just diagnosed based on the rash and family history. As to the prednisone, for me it was very helpful in clearing up severe outbreaks. I took the short...
  7. You need to have your doctor do a full panel as well as a total IGA. After all celiac related testing is done then give the diet a shot for at least a couple months. Also find out if there were any UBOs on your MRI of your brain. Many neuros don't know they are diagnostic of celiac that is attacking the brain.
  8. I know how you feel. I started working a month or so ago and we had our Xmas party Friday. So much yummy smelling food and everyone was supposed to contribute. I didn't have time to make the 3 ingredient gluten free peanut butter cookies so I got a box of Italian Xmas cookies for everyone else. I used to love those things. They bring so much food the table...
  9. Have you brought those test results to her new doctor? Do bring those to that doctors attention. She should have been diagnosed when the tests you posted were run. Yes celiac can impact kidney function (and many other organs) but once she goes gluten free her kidney function can return to normal. I hope you are able to get her diagnosed quickly and do test...
  10. Pain in that area could also be ovarian in nature. If you have a Planned Parenthood clinic in your area they have a sliding fee scale or possibly no fee. They might also be able to guide you to a clinic that could help if that is needed. If the pain gets really severe go to the ER and contact the hospitals billing dept.afterward. Most can help folks without...
  11. Welcome to the board. I agree that getting tested is a good idea. It may not be the making of the sandwiches that is getting you every morning it may be the timing. There are some of us that will have D every morning on gluten, after any gluten meal, alternating C and D or even just C. Do give the diet a good strict try after all celiac related testing is...
  12. You should not dye your hair with any products when you have lesions on your scalp. Once your scalp heals then perhaps try Garnier or the Herbatint products. The Herbatint used to come with a packet of conditioner that contains wheat so do read the label and don't use it if it hasn't changed formulas. I think Loreal products are still gluten free but do...
  13. I have to agree that you were positive on the best, most reliable test we have. It is too bad your doctor didn't rerun your testing while you were still eating gluten. Especialy if you were tested a few years ago. Science has fairly recently developed some much better tests. You could also have been a low positive back then as some doctors will call a low...
  14. While most celiacs will tolerate distilled gluten with no issues a few of us do react. I don't know why but do know I am one of them. I stick to clear rum, potato vodka or wine on the rare occasions that I do have a drink.
  15. You do need to keep in mind that for those of us whose primary symptoms are neurological or skin problems the biopsy can be negative. Many doctors forget that celiac is not solely a GI disorder it is an autoimmune disorder and can attack any part of the body. Do give the diet a good strict try for at least a couple of months after all your testing is done...
  16. In some folks that are affected with mood issues the problem is the vitamin deficiencies. For some it can be simply linked to feeling crappy all the time. Some folks will get depressed and anxious when they first start the diet because it is new and it is tough to adjust to. For others though it is a direct result of celiac. I had problems with clinical...
  17. We always have to make sure we have something safe with us. Whether it is an apple, a baggie with Snyder's gluten-free pretzels and raisens with some chocolate chips tossed in, some cheese and a baggie of crakers, a banana or a gluten free cookie or whatever you like that is portable it is very important to have something safe on hand for the times when those...
  18. Have you tried eliminating soy in your gluten-free snacks? Many Glutino products do contain soy. It is worth a shot to give it up for a bit and see if it helps. Also are you living in a home with gluten eaters? If so are you doing all you need to protect yourself from cross contamination? Things like sharing butter, pnut butter, toasters, strainers etc can...
  19. Welcome James. Some of us have other intolerances. For me stomach pain is linked to soy and is releived with Pepto Bismal liquid. Might not be the case for you though. Have you spoken with the doctor who diagnosed you about your continued problems? There may be other things in addition to celiac that need to be ruled out. Are you taking all the precautions...
  20. You have gotten some good advice about the night sweats. Many of us do go through menapause a bit early although if you are in the beginning stages things could reverse after you are gluten free. You mention you are waiting on your endo. If the endo is to confirm your celiac diagnosis you shouldn't be gluten free until that is done or it may well come back...
  21. It can take time for a reaction to occur. I did an elimination diet, doctor guided, as part of my diagnosis process. It takes me 3 days for the digestive issues to show up and the doctor said it can take up to a week to have a reaction. If you are determined to do a challenge then eat gluten at at least a couple meals a day for at least a week before you...
  22. Welcome to the board. Do keep eating gluten until all your testing is done but be aware that there are false negatives even when we are on a gluten diet. Celiac can also have an impact on our liver function so make sure you get that tested as well. Kudos to you for being able to decrease your drinking as much as you have. It would be a good idea to tone...
  23. So sorry you are having to go through so much. Can't believe how quickly they send people home after a surgery like yours! Your dinner last night sounds yummy and you are so lucky to have a loving DH to help you heal and cook you good for sure safe food.. I hope you will heal quickly and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
  24. But you didn't have totally negative results. You had blunted villi and you now are having issues with malabsorption and anemia. Your GI issues resolved on the diet. You say you aren't having GI issues after adding gluten back in but there are times when people, especially young people, will go through a honeymoon period for a long time before the GI issues...
  25. I was diagnosed by an allergist through an elimination diet that was very strict and started out with just 5 foods. This was after years of being told my ceiac panel was negative. The diagnosis was confirmed when I was then referred to a GI who almost killed me when he demanded a second challenge before the endo.
