  1. If you reacted that strongly to the challenge you really do have your answer no matter what the test results are.
  2. IMHO you would be wise to get yourself strictly gluten free now and if you feel strongly that you may have another issue going on being gluten free is not going to effect the testing for other issues.
  3. Yes it is possible to have celiac and have tests come back negative, even with adults but it is even more common with children. Since you are celiac it is even more likely he is also since celiac is strongly genetic. Your plan to have him go gluten free no matter what the tests results are is a good plan. Even if the tests are negative the doctor may give...
  4. I hate to state the obvious but have you tried eliminating the Pepsi for a bit?
  5. Even the respirator mask may not help. Your eyes will still be exposed and the dust will be getting into them. Plus those masks are quite heavy and uncomfortable and wearing one all day will be difficult. Your clothes and hair will also be getting coated so in the long run it is going to be hard not to get some degree of contamination. You may be able to...
  6. Have to agree with this. There is a reason DH is named dermatitis herpeformis. The lesions strongly resemble herpes lesions. Without testing your doctor wouldn't be able to tell the difference. It can take some time for the antibodies to leave the skin. Limiting iodine is helpful for some of us. Also be sure that your shampoos, conditioners etc are all...
  7. I like Udi's bagels and their other baked goods. I've never tried gluten-free Challah so others will have to respond on that one.
  8. Your celiac test is not an allergy test. Celiac is an autoimmune disease not an allergy. Having celiac can however impact allergy testing for other substances according to my allergist. When I was tested for true allergies before diagnosis I showed reactions to 98 out of 99 substances (wasn't tested just for foods). My allergist later explained that because...
  9. Have you ruled out other intolerances like soy and dairy? Are you being very careful to avoid cross contamination in your home and if you eat in restaurants are you bringing to their attention all they need to do to keep you safe? One other thought is if you are consuming products with Codex Wheat Starch? Although technically gluten free many of us can not...
  10. This is only my personal opinion but I would pass. Then again I am very sensitive to even the smallest amount of gluten. If you are not overly sensitive go ahead and give it a try but be on the lookout for a possible reaction and keep in mind that reactions can be delayed.
  11. I had to just drop iodized salt and take a vitamin without it. Some, like Squirmy have to drop all foods with iodine. You can have DH and other skin conditions. The itchy rash you speak of does sound like DH. Here is a helpful site for info on DH and the testing that needs to be done by a derm to diagnose it. It is important that the doctor be looking for...
  12. It sounds like you may have DH, the skin form of celiac. Are you gluten free? If you are gluten free are you strict with the diet? Some of us that have DH also need to avoid iodine for a while as iodine can keep the antibodies active in the skin. After we have been lesion free for a while we do need to add iodine back in as it is an important nutrient.
  13. Welcome to the board. While doctors don't really know why we have trouble concieving and are more likely to miscarry I have never heard of undiagnosed celiac causing birth defects. It is however genetic so if you have gluten issues you should keep an eye out with your future children to make sure that if celiac is triggered in them you can get them on the...
  14. It might not be a bad idea to run this by your doctor. There are a number of things that can cause unexpected bruising. DH can cause purple scars also. Are these in areas where you have previouosly had DH lesions?
  15. You have gotten some good advice already. As others have mentioned glutening in itself can cause mood issues so do make sure you are doing all you can to prevent even small amounts of CC. Eat as cleanly as possible. One thing that wasn't mentioned was excercise. Getting out and going for a walk or jog, swimming or doing in home excercise can help a bit. For...
  16. How long before you insurance kicks in? If you are low income do see if there are some clinics or ask at your local hospital if they have a plan to help low income people as many do. Not everything is always gluten or other intolerances and you do need to rule out other, perhaps serious, problems. I hope this gets resolved for you soon.
  17. Glad to hear you have an appointment with your GP. Hope he will be checking for other issues that can cause depressive symptoms. You have gotten good advice from others on what he should be checking. If all that checks out good perhaps your doctor could try a different antidepressant. In my families experience Prozac wasn't helpful at all and actually made...
  18. I also suffered from depression from early childhood and later developed anxiety. I find I have to be super strict with the diet because even a small amount of gluten will send the depression roaring back full force. Being gluten free didn't have any effect on my anxiety issues though. I hope things improve for you soon.
  19. He should talk to his doctor ASAP. It is possible the diabetes may reverse but I don't know for sure. Do not stop the Lexapro suddenly unless the doctor gives the okay. He should also report what has happened to him here: Open Original Shared Link I have PTSD and the doctor prescribes Alprazolam which is an antianxiety med. I was concerned about addiction...
  20. Thanks guys. I took one about 1/2 hour ago and the pain is subsiding. I resorted to having to take a pain pill from a previous oral surgery last night and the thing wore off a 4 am. No fun. Keep your fingers crossed, or if you pray please do, that I will get the position that I am up for. A paying job will mean I can finally finish dental work and maybe...
  21. There is also the possibility that you have an additional intolerance. I kept thinking I was being glutened even by gluten free stuff in the beginning but it turned out I am sensitive to soy. I don't know about the pasta sauce but I do know I can't have many salad dressings because of the soy oil in them.
  22. Have a horrible toothache. Does anyone know if Aleve is safe?
  23. Go back to the doctor and ask him to clarify that statement for you. When my allergist prescribed elimination diet proved a severe reaction to wheat (I used Cream of Wheat to challenge) his response to whether I should keep eating it was "Heavens NO!" He then sent me to a GI to confirm celiac. That doctor demanded a challenge and it did almost kill me. If...
  24. You have a good GI. Follow their advice. Plus if you are already gluten free the biopsy has a good chance of being a false negative. I hope you heal quickly but for some of us things can be up and down for a bit. Hang in there and ask any questions needed.
  25. It may be a combination of DH and hives. I had both. I know you are in agony right now so I would suggest in addition to seeing the derm that you ask either him or your GP for a celiac panel. After all testing for celiac is done then do give the diet a good strict try. Also check your topicals, shampoos, lotions etc for gluten ingredients. I hope you get...
