ARCHIVED Anatomy Question On Gluten Intolerance
ravenwoodglass replied to Will29's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Not meaning to add more confusion but some consider gluten intolerance and celiac to be the same thing. Some doctors would define me as gluten intolerant because I had false negative blood tests but the damage done was still autoimmune and severe although it was my brain and skin that were attacked before my gut. As the previous poster stated it doesn't matter... -
ARCHIVED What More Can I Do?
ravenwoodglass replied to sorairobara's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Get a couple of big tubs with lids and put their dishes in them and stick them in their rooms. Or put your own personal cooking supplies in one and put that in your room with the door locked. You could also go the route of getting rid of all but one or two sets of everything they use, like 2 plates, 2 glasses, 2 coffee mugs, 2 spoons etc in the shared kitchen... -
ARCHIVED Is This Idea Crazy?
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do the same thing so your not crazy, well unless we both are. I do it for a different reason though. My foundling loves to scoot water bowls across the floor spilling their contents on the way. Took a couple weeks but I found a HUGE heavy crockery bowl, must weigh well over 5 lbs with the water in it. Took care of that problem and is big enough to last... -
ARCHIVED Is This Idea Crazy?

I do have a medic alert bracelet and also have a living will made. All set there thankfully. I'm also putting my house up for sale soon (anyone want a 3 bedroom house a block away from city schools? LOL) so who knows maybe I will be closer to your location eventually as I am not sure I want to stay in the area I am in and I want to live closer to my kids... -
ARCHIVED Is This Idea Crazy?
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the early morning laugh!!! And thank you everyone for your replies. I'll keep you all posted when I am able to find a position and let you know how it goes. -
Depends on the cat what kind they like or if they even like any. My 2 manxs liked a bite of anything I was eating. I never gave them anything while I was actually eating but they would run for the counter for any leftovers. They also had to have a can of cat food split every evening for dinner. Kibble is always kept full for day or night dining. After they...

ARCHIVED Is This Idea Crazy?
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your right but since I have no friends, except for you guys, (being sick for years can do that to a person), and the only family I have is two children who both live far away I do worry about it. There are lots of others in that position also but I don't waste time feeling lonely or sad about it. At the place where I volunteer they do know if I don't show... -
ARCHIVED Is This Idea Crazy?
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yea, as I have said to friends there are two places that if I ever went into them I would likely never leave alive, a hospital or a jail. -
ARCHIVED Is This Idea Crazy?
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I only had one nutrition class while working on my Human Service degree however before I worked in the hospital previously I had years of experience working in a restuarant that was the only one in town that dealt with folks with food allergies. I stopped cooking and went to college because all my doctors said it was the stress of the job that was making... -
ARCHIVED Is This Idea Crazy?
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yea I wouldn't be able to bake. But at the time I worked in the hospital cafe there was no baking. All breads etc were premade. I am hoping that is still the case. I don't know about nursing homes but I guess I will find out over the coming weeks. -
I think you are likely correct. If she has had to be an outdoor kitty she may not want to go out for fear you won't let her back in. Sounds like she will be a very happy housecat and it won't be long before you find her and Cooper curled up together somewhere.

Things are getting desperate in the job search area in my life. Lately I have been seriously considering going back to what I have the most experience in which is cooking. I have been thinking about going to a nursing home or hospital and seeing if I can get a job in their nutrition dept. I know from experience that cooking in these places is a lot different...

It sounds like she will have a good and loving home. Do keep her inside though. She is fortunate to still be alive if she has been an outdoor kitty with no defenses. She may fuss a bit at first at not being allowed out but she will get over it. When I moved into the house I am in I had 5 cats and we moved them in 2 lots. When my Manxs came, one is in my avatar...

ARCHIVED Having Endoscopy In A Few Weeks
ravenwoodglass replied to Momma Bear's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with this. You may want to talk to your doctor to be sure he considers you diagnosed. If he does then a challenge is not needed IMHO. -
ARCHIVED Another Job Related Question
ravenwoodglass replied to Richterface's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If there is no airborne flour you may be okay. Do wear your gloves or use tongs when handling food or packaging and wash your hands often and as soon as you get home. -
ARCHIVED Kirkland Jelly Bellies
ravenwoodglass replied to koolkat222's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you get name brand Jellie Bellies those are safe. I have at times gotten the less expensive jelly beans from store brands and sometimes they are okay but other times I have gotten quite ill from them. -
ARCHIVED How To Celebrate?
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you were diagnosed with Celiac and have been gluten free your blood tests will come back negative. Ask your parents or guardians to get a copy of the doctor's records from when you were 9. If you were diagnosed celiac you are damaging your body eating gluten whether you feel it or not. -
ARCHIVED Ceramics/plaster
ravenwoodglass replied to 123glldd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I do a lot of artsy stuff. Just bring a pair of gloves with you to wear while painting. After the paint is on and dry then no worries IMHO. -
ARCHIVED What Is Best?
ravenwoodglass replied to Mommyof4beans's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You need to stay on gluten until all testing is done for the best chance of a accurate result. However if you have been strictly gluten free you may react strongly to adding it back in. Your regular doctor can order the celiac panel so that is waiting for the GI appt. If you haven't been gluten-free very long then there is a chance it will still be positive... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Stunted Growth
ravenwoodglass replied to gottarun96's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You could gain a few more inches. A lot depends on whether your growth plates have fused yet. Your doctor can answer that question with a simple X-ray. Have the doctors checked your hormone levels etc. in regards to your not having started to have your period? It could just be that your body is not getting the nutrition it needs because of the undiagnosed... -

ARCHIVED Shell Fish?
ravenwoodglass replied to bossley's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No need to apologize at all. It is a good idea to read as much as you can here but not everyone has the time to do a lot of it. Never be afraid to ask any question you need to. -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy
ravenwoodglass replied to homemaker's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I should have read the whole thread before I replied as I now see you did mention that elsewhere. Sorry you are continueing to have problems and I hope the doc can help you figure things out so that those issues resolve. It sounds like your sister may have refractory celiac (sprue) and I hope they can find some way to help her. I think there may be cases... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy
ravenwoodglass replied to homemaker's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since you are done with biopsy you should go ahead and get back on your trial of the diet. Hopefully he took more than one 'snip'of your villi. He should have taken six or so as damage can be patchy and get easily missed. -

I hope by now you have your grandchild safely in your arms, when you can pry him out of Mom's that is. I must admit to being a bit jealous as I am still waiting for grandchildren. Wishing you all the best. Do let us know how things went and what they named the little bundle.
