ARCHIVED Anyone In The Twin Cities Able To Give A Ride Monday Morning?
ravenwoodglass replied to maggiesimpson's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are a few places you can call to see if they can help with this. In most cases the person who brings you is not allowed to leave during the procedure and they will not let you go in a taxi etc. Call your local hospital and see if they have voluteers, Red Cross may know of someplace or someone, Catholic Charities or another local church may also have... -
And some have celiac and don't have one of the two most commonly looked for celiac associated genes. A complete celiac panel and biopsy if you choose to have one are the best way to go if you are looking for a diagnosis. After all testing is done no matter what the results you should give the diet a try if your symptoms seem to be celiac related as false...

ARCHIVED More Specific On Personal Care Products
ravenwoodglass replied to tctwhite's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Garnier and don't find it too heavy. They make a number of different formulas and at present I am using one for fine hair that adds body. If your happy with what you are now using and it works well for you and you just want a change once in a while try and find travel or trial size bottles to see if you like it. -
I have a hypermobility syndrome and when on gluten I was constantly dislocating. My ankles were the worst and I had braces to wear when I slept. My knees were also a problem. I now rarely dislocate anymore. My drawer of ankle, knee and wrist supports is really getting very dusty. My joints don't snap, crackle and pop anymore either. I don't know for sure...

ARCHIVED Something Got Me...
ravenwoodglass replied to justlisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If they were someone else's script and that person is a gluten eater then they could have been CC'd. Just another reason not to take someone else's script. I know that pain well. It is excruciating. Don't know if it will be the case for you but for me soy is more of a culprit in that pain than gluten is. For some folks it is nightshades that are contributing... -
ARCHIVED 1 1/2 Years And I Got Glutened Again!
ravenwoodglass replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
People that don't have celiac don't understand the impact it can have on our brains. And when we are 'under the influence' sometimes we don't realize how severe that impact is. So sorry this happened to you and ruined what could have been a good outing. I wouldn't give up on those freinds just yet though. Although what was said was rude you may have been... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Showed Normal Bowel Does This Mean I'm Not Got Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Nenee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac damage can be patchy and they need to take at least 6 to 8 biopsies of different areas. Did you have a celiac panel done? If so what were the results? Keep in mind that even a short time gluten free or gluten light can cause an increase in false negatives and some of us even on a full gluten diet can still show negative on testing. When you have finished... -
ARCHIVED More Sensitive To Alcohol?
ravenwoodglass replied to LauraB0927's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You mentioned vodka, there are a very few of us that react to distilled gluten grains. One gluten grain derived drink and I am not only so drunk I can remember little of the rest of the night I also awaken with a severe hangover. However I can have 2 or 3 potato vodka drinks over the course of a night and not get drunk and have no hangover the next day.... -

You might want to add a sublingual B12 into your vitamins if you are not already. If you take a multi with folate that can make your B12 levels look higher on testing than it really is. B12 is water soluable so it is hard to take too much and it is important that it be a sublingual not a swallowed tablet. Is your home gluten free? You may be getting enough... -
ARCHIVED Personal Care Products
ravenwoodglass replied to tctwhite's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Garneir products for hair and skin. They will label gluten ingredients and I have had no problems with any of their products. Sometimes I will try a different shampoo or conditioner but usually I end up donating them after one or two uses. If you have favorite products ask about them here. As far as buying a book keep in mind that they are out of date... -
ARCHIVED Day 3 Going gluten-free. Not Going So Well.
ravenwoodglass replied to Chrissy W.'s topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Some of us find it works best to not try the gluten free replacement foods right away. Maybe try and go with more naturally gluten free food that he was eating before diagnosis like potatoes, rice, chicken and beef, eggs, veggies and fruit etc. There are a few mainstream cereals that are gluten free like Chex, Fruity and Chocolate Pebbles and the gluten free... -
ARCHIVED How To Cope With Gluten Anxiety
ravenwoodglass replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Congrats on the wedding and glad to hear that all went well with it and the honeymoon. It sounds like you have a very supportive spouse which does help a lot. You mention feeling like you are 'doomed' if you get glutened or think you might be. Can you keep in mind that even if you do get glutened it will be a temporary thing that will pass? I get horrible... -
ARCHIVED My Family Can't Eat Gluten Free
ravenwoodglass replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I will keep my fingers crossed for you and your family. I was close to death when I was diagnosed. My amazing recovery convinced the rest of my family to get tested about 6 months after I was diagnosed. In the end though all we can do is give them the information and hope they will do what is needed. I hope you are feeling much better soon. For now you need... -
ARCHIVED Most Gluten-Free-Friendly City
ravenwoodglass replied to kdonov2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Upstate NY is pretty gluten freindly. Rochester is good midsized city and there are smaller cities that as long as they have a Wegmans you would be able to shop with ease. The owners of Wegmans have celiac in the family and they are very good at labeling their store brand items. The Finger Lakes area is really pretty and has a pretty low cost of living if... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free For 7 Weeks
ravenwoodglass replied to Cassy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your doctor should have never told you to go gluten free before testing. Did he do any celiac panel tests on you before you went gluten free? Being gluten free or gluten light can make the tests come back a false negative. As to the headaches, they could be part of the gluten withdrawl we can go through or for some of us, myself included, they might mean... -
You have gotten some replies to that post. It is under "Doctors". If you need to find a post if you click on the little 'thingy' next to your screen name it will take you to your profile page. Then you look under topics you will see the two threads you have started.

ARCHIVED How Do You Do A Food Challenge For Corn?
ravenwoodglass replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
When I did an elimination I was told to drop everything I might be reacting to and then add things back in one at a time, eating the suspect item 3 times a day for a week or until I reacted. Go with as much whole food as you can so you don't have to worry about reading labels. With something like corn I think I would do a week with fresh corn, keeping in... -
ARCHIVED Pre-Endo Freak Out
ravenwoodglass replied to mbadger2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The worst part of the procedure for me was waiting for it to be done. I think you may have the same feeling when it is over. The test itself is something you won't even remember. You will simply 'take a nap' and wake up and go home and start your gluten free life. With positive blood tests you know you need the diet no matter what the biopsy results are... -
ARCHIVED Pasta
ravenwoodglass replied to Kelleybean's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think Debole's is okay. I found it a bit 'corny' for my taste but an okay texture. My favorite is the Thai Kitchen Rice Noodles. Usually they can be found in the Oriental food section. My store carries the real thin angel hair size and a linguine. I like the angel hair because it cooks in just a minute or so. I just toss it into veggies that are done cooking... -
ARCHIVED Kellog's Rice Crispies?
ravenwoodglass replied to hobbitqueen18's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What are the ingredients? They used to have malt in them which would make them unsafe for us as it comes from barley. They do make a gluten free variety of Rice Crispies that are safe for us. I use those to make my own treats so I haven't looked at the ready made ones. Plain rice is gluten free and many marshmellows are also. -
ARCHIVED Toy Yorkie Loses 9 Teeth To Gum Disease
ravenwoodglass replied to GF Lover's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Poor little guy. Hope he is up and about and crunching on treats soon. -
ARCHIVED Birthday Cake?
ravenwoodglass replied to Sage122's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Gluten Free Pantry also makes good cake mixes. I really like the chocolate. If you want to have a good homemade pizza that all will like their French Bread Mix makes a really good crust. It is a sticky dough so it has to be spread but even the gluten eaters I have given it to like it. -
ARCHIVED Cereal
ravenwoodglass replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If your hubby doesn't need to be gluten free maybe let him get a box of whatever he wants as long as he doesn't sprinkle it all over the house. If you have a youngster that would feel deprived maybe hubs could 'sneak eat' it. -
ARCHIVED Pepto
ravenwoodglass replied to bossley's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Pepto did help my stomach pain and I still use it when I get soyed. The only thing that helped the D was Immodium and I kept that company in business for 15 years.
