  1. OP- Since you are already gluten free and are not in a position to do a challenge for celiac testing do follow Rose's advice on the testing you should get done. Mommyof4- Please do not assume that your two children that tested negative for DQ2 are never going to develop celiac. There are diagnosed celiacs without the most common of the celiac associated...
  2. Didn't think of the plastic bags in the freezer. Good idea. Went out to get more dog food yesterday and the store was out!!!!! Thankfully they should have more Monday but the store owner gave me a bunch of sample bags to be on the safe side. I brought in more wood for the woodstove, got to have my coffee power or no power and really hate being cold. I have...
  3. Okay I will admit I am not one who likes change. One of my favorite things was being able to go to the bottom of a post or thread and there was a pull down menu to pick where to go next. This morning I log in and it is gone. In addition I fould that when logging in I was not logging in securely. Is everyone seeing this or is it just me?
  4. If you are taking the fiber supplement to try and help with the C you could try upping your water intake and perhaps do some more fruits or veggies. If the pain started the same time you started the supplement it could be something you don't tolerate. You could drop it and see if the pain stops and then maybe add it back in after a couple weeks pain free...
  5. Yea I agree completely. Maybe pick up a veggie brush in a dollar store and offer (read insist) that you scrub those potatos while he does some other dinner prep chore.
  6. So sorry you are having to go through so much. I have the food aversion thing also. I usually eat just once a day. I call it Pavlov's dog in reverse. I was able to reverse things a bit when I was finishing up school but have since backslid. What I did that worked was what was suggested by the other poster. I ate very small amounts of foods I knew...
  7. I would say yes to dropping dairy and soy for a bit to see if it helps. If you do get some relief after dropping them wait for at least a couple weeks and then add them back in one at a time and see if the D starts again. It is not uncommon at all for us to be intolerant of other things and dairy and soy top the list. Also is your house gluten free or just...
  8. With your biopsy and blood work done now you can go ahead and give the diet a good strict try. Your body may give you the answer before you even go in for the results.
  9. Have you talked to your doctor about waiting on the Chrons meds and keeping strictly to the gluten-free diet for a couple months and then rescoping to see if the ulcers etc have resolved? Since you have had positive changes with the diet and become ill when accidentally injesting gluten you may want to consider that route. By the way IMHO the word 'just...
  10. I think many of us can identify with what you are saying. We fight so hard to take care of our families and ourselves through all the pain. Doctors tell us we are 'just depressed' (who wouldn't be in constant pain), your job is too stressful (of course it is I have to run to the bathroom wondering if I will make it all day long) and the real kicker 'you just...
  11. Thanks for your kind words about Big Boy. He was a big lovable lump who got to enjoy being the 'top cat' for a year or so after King Ricki passed. He suddenly lost weight and one morning I noticed he seemed to have labored breathing. I took him in to the vet she took x-rays and we found he had a large tumor. The vet said there was nothing that could be done...
  12. You can also have false negative biopsies for a variety of reasons. If you had positive blood work you need to be gluten free no matter what the biopsy results. If you are done with all celiac related testing then go ahead and give the diet a strict try for at least a couple months to see if it helps the issues you are having.
  13. While I have never done it I have seen people walking their kitties on a lead or on a line sitting on their porch so it can be done. One thing I would caution you about is entanglement if Cooper and his kitty play a lot together. When those thin leads get tangled around another animal it can happen quick and have deadly consequences. We had a big lab once...
  14. Did you check with the maker of your meds to be sure they are gluten free? Also you may find the celiac is what is causing the GERD, that was my DD's only symptoms when she was diagnosed. I was also diagnosed with GERD but it resolved pretty quickly gluten free. The only time I have problems with GERD symptoms now is when I get soyed or glutened. May not...
  15. Glad you finally got the little bugger! Another thing that works well with flying foes is hairspray. Glues their little wings and drops them quickly.
  16. One thing that may help with the rash AFTER you are done with celiac testing and gone gluten free is a short course of prednisone. When the doctors thought my DH was poison ivy about once a year they would give me the 10 day decreasing dose. It would clear the rash short term but of course within a couple weeks it would come back since I wasn't gluten free...
  17. With a family history of celiac have you asked your doctor for celiac testing? If not is would be a good idea before you go gluten free. There can be false negatives with celiac testing so when you are done testing do give the diet a good strict try. I also agree with the previous poster. Dapsone is a drug that has a lot of negatives to it. Since celiac...
  18. Your quite welcome. That is my favorite quote of hers. She has others I have seen that are just as wise but that one is the one that moves me the most.
  19. Have you been tested for celiac? If not make sure you stay on gluten until that is done and do get tested ASAP. Celiac can cause nerve issues beyond the ones caused by B12 deficiency.
  20. I think it isn't wheat in the Worchester sauce it is the barley malt that is an issue for us. If you making your own just go for the L&P sauce that was advised.
  21. False positives are extremely rare however false negatives are common. There are doctors who are now diagnosing with just positive blood tests now that the newer tests that are very specific for celiac have come out. If I had waited for a positive blood test I would be dead. And my GI wouldn't do an endo without one. There are also false negatives on endoscopy...
  22. It may not be all the cheese you ate itself but the fact that you were eating the cheese at freinds homes who were likely not gluten free. CC happens and gluten reactions can be delayed by up to a week or so.
  23. Forgot to mention this in my reply. Something that may help with your hair loss is some extra biotin vitamins. There are also vitamins specifically formulated to help with hair loss. A derm may also be able to prescribe something that may help and be safe for you to use. They do make Rogaine formulas for women but Rogaine is designed for pattern baldness...
  24. And as you have those windows open hoping the wasp will leave 3 bees fly in.... Seriously though I do feel for you as I hate those things with a passion myself. If you have a store handy that has it there is a wasp spray that will spray like 10 ft. Of course then you have to deal with the smell of the spray.
  25. Please do get strict with the diet as it isn't something we can be lazy about. Everytime you get glutened your body is going to form antibodies that can take quite a while to resolve. I also agree that you should go ahead and see the specialist. Chances are that doctor will be able to set you mind at ease.
