ARCHIVED Alka Seltzer Fruit Chews
ravenwoodglass replied to G-gone's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That only applies to food. Unfortunately meds don't have to follow the same rules that food does. IMHO the best way to see if the chews are the problem is to stop using them for a bit, perhaps till you hear back from the company. Then if your symptoms have resolved try using them again and see if they return. It is also quite possible that gluten is sneaking... -
Do keep in mind that with celiac just because someone showed up negative in past tests doesn't mean they will in a test done today. Doctors advise that in families with a celiac history children be screened every 3 years or so from what I understand. It wouldn't hurt to have her retested with her symptoms. A dietary trial after testing might benefit you both...

I may be reading this wrong as it is early and I have only had one cup of coffee so if I am off base forgive me. It sounds to me like your fear is not getting glutened it is needing to use the restroom NOW and not being able to. I also have a great fear of that because of nerve damage and having had 'accidents' before I was finally diagnosed. I also have...

ARCHIVED Biopsy Side Effects?!? Baby Is Sick Now Pretty Concerned!
ravenwoodglass replied to mmcc54's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the update. I hope the little one is feeling better real soon. -
Glad you came back. It sounds like you are in pretty rough shape right now. Do give the diet a strict try after your doctor does the test. It sounds like that is what your doctor is planning to have you do so it sounds like he is a good doc. There are some of us who do test a false negative especially with some of the older tests. If they haven't recently...

Did you come up allergic to a lot of other things also? I ask because before diagnosis I showed reactions to 98 of the 99 things for which I was tested. Within a few months gluten free all but 3 of those allergies were gone. My allergist said that because of the celiac my immune system was in 'hyperdrive' which caused me to react to so many things. Once the...

ARCHIVED Biopsy Side Effects?!? Baby Is Sick Now Pretty Concerned!
ravenwoodglass replied to mmcc54's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Glad your calling the doctor this morning. I think a bit of a sore throat is common but the D needs to be asked about. Wonder if they somehow glutened her during or after the procedure? I hope she is feeling better soon and the doctor is able to help or set your mind at ease. -
ARCHIVED Ruling Out Other Health Problems
ravenwoodglass replied to Zizzlebreath's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like you have neuro impact from gluten. That is not unusual. Your body is clearly telling you to avoid even trace amounts. Are you diagnosed? If you aren't and you need an official diagnosis for some reason make sure you do your challenge with a doctors supervision. If you think this may be something other than a gluten reaction you may want to... -
Sounds like you were doing well for a while before the symptoms came back. Is there anything that has changed? A new restaurant you are going to? A new significant other who may wear lipstick or gloss or kissing after they have eaten or drank gluten items? Any new food items that may be produced in a shared facility? Any new medications or supplements you...

ARCHIVED Cleaning What I've Got To Prevent Cross-Contamination
ravenwoodglass replied to Lightforth's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Call your hospital, if some of your bills for testing are there and explain the situation to the billing dept. It is quite possible they may allow you to skip a months payment or you may even qualify for forgiveness on some percentage of your bills if you have a low income. That way you could use part of that money to replace things like your toaster and... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge: Anyone Tried Just Flour And Water?
ravenwoodglass replied to BelleVie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A bit more enjoyable way might be cream of wheat. That is just wheat. I used that and triscuits for my challenge. -
ARCHIVED Even More Confused After Gi Appt!?
ravenwoodglass replied to mmcc54's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It will take a little while, maybe a week or two for the biopsy results to get back to the doctor from the lab. Don't take your child gluten free until after the biopsies are done but since you have had your blood work done you can have her go gluten free after the test. You don't need to wait on the results. Since there can be false negatives for many reasons... -
ARCHIVED Fingernail Problems
ravenwoodglass replied to dburkett's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Take your doctors advise and go see the dermatologist. They know much more about skin, hair and nails than a celiac specialist will. The issues you are describing could be signs of something other than celiac going on so get that appointment as soon as you can. -
Dentist phobias are not unusual. Talk to your dentist or your GP and explain how great your fear is and that it is preventing you from getting the dental care you know you need. Either one can give you a small script for an antianxiety med to take before the appointment. You will need someone to drive you there and home though unless the office is within...

ARCHIVED Does Diagnosis Get You Blackballed?
ravenwoodglass replied to nosy parker's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree. Plus early diagnosis can result in a person not developing a lot of issues later on. We spent a fortune just in copays before I was diagnosed not even taking into account all the prescription meds I no longer need. If anything I have become healthier than I ever was since childhood and I don't think I am alone in that. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Vaccine? Not For Me
ravenwoodglass replied to Opa3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am curious where you get that 90% figure. I have very severe reactions and have been well able to avoid gluten now for many years. Did it take me a while to get the gluten free lifestyle down? Sure it did. It is however quite possible to avoid gluten once you learn what you need to do. There are some of us who have residual damage from years of misdiagnosis... -
ARCHIVED Is There Hope For Neuropathy?
ravenwoodglass replied to CarolynA's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have nothing to lose by going gluten free. Nerves can heal but they do it slowly so you may not notice much of a difference for a while. I would advise adding gluten back in last. Have you had your B12 levels tested? If your levels are below 500 a good gluten-free sublingual B12 may help with the healing. I noticed the biggest differences within the first... -
ARCHIVED Confusing Genetic Test Results - Help!
ravenwoodglass replied to greenbeanie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac is neither recessive or dominant so people can develop celiac with only one copy of a gene. Do keep in mind that many labs, including it appears this one only check for the 2 most common celiac associated genes. Some research shows that there are many more associated than just these two. You can have celiac and not have either of them and you can have... -
ARCHIVED Elimination Diet
ravenwoodglass replied to HumanDecency's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In the elimination diet phase of my diagnosis the largest reaction I recognized was a return of extremely painful D that happened both during the day and would wake me in the middle of the night. I also got a worsening of my ataxia problems and migraines reappeared. . After I had healed for a couple months gluten free other symptoms like overwhelming short... -
ARCHIVED Another Symptom I Didn't Know I Had
ravenwoodglass replied to bartfull's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used to smell baking bread before a migraine hit. Sometimes I would get the headache but many times I would just get the visual sparkles. Hasn't happened to me in years now. Did you get migraines before you were diagnosed? -
ARCHIVED Elimination Diet
ravenwoodglass replied to HumanDecency's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed in large part due to a elderly but very savvy allergist who first tested for true allergies. He then had me do an in depth review of what I usually ate and formulated a starting point with only 5 foods, no spices other than salt and only water and the one juice that was part of the five foods. For me he choose all foods I rarely ate and really... -
ARCHIVED Why Are Gi Symptoms Worse In The Morning?
ravenwoodglass replied to SeekingSarah's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mone were worse in the morning for years. Then I started being woken up in the middle of the night by them. -
ARCHIVED Bad Experience At My Endoscopy Today :(
ravenwoodglass replied to Miss-Marie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Usually an anesthsiaologist will speak with you before the procedure. The first indication that you were not adaquately sedated when have prompted them to take care of the problem. If one was present IMHO you would only have tried to pull the tube out one time and no one would have been forcefully holding you down. -
ARCHIVED Is Eating Gluten Worth A Possible Diagnosis?
ravenwoodglass replied to aberlee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you had a positive blood test then IMHO combined with the resolution of symptoms gluten free you have your diagnosis. Only you can decide whether it is worth it to do a gluten challenge. A lot depends on your reaction to adding gluten back in. For some of us the reaction is so severe that a challenge can not be completed. For others they experience a level... -
ARCHIVED 20 Year Old Male With Short Stature
ravenwoodglass replied to Cgesundheit's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ask your doctor to take an X-ray to see if your growth plates have fused. If they haven't you may still gain some height. Usually it is just an X-ray of your hand and wrist. Some guys plates don't fuse until their early twenties. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
