ARCHIVED Small Scratch...so Much Blood!
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks I will try straight cold water first and see if that does the trick. If it doesn't then I will try to keep everything wet until I get out of work tomorrow. I can't believe how much a little scratch I can't even see can bleed! -
ARCHIVED Small Scratch...so Much Blood!
ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I gave my little daschund Maggie a bath an hour or so ago. Her favorite thing to do after one is run and run and run. Well we have a new addition to the family, a 16 week old kitten who freaked out and gave a swipe as she ran past him. Maggie now has a tiny scratch on her ear. And I have blood literally all over the house. After going through half a roll... -

ravenwoodglass replied to Rowena's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff

If you are going to apply for disability seeing a doctor and trying to get help with it is going to be your first step. Be prepared as applying for a getting disability is not an easy... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Based On Symptoms Alone?
ravenwoodglass replied to scrcdawn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. If you do choose to do the genetic test keep in mind that there are diagnosed celiacs that don't have DQ2 or DQ8. There are not a lot of us but we are out there. It sounds like you have a good doctor who is going to give you an 'official' diagnosis based on the resolution of your symptoms on the diet. Even if the doc won't it seems... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Stress Cause Diarrhea? Or Is This Something Else :(
ravenwoodglass replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is possible it is stress but it is also possible you have picked up a food borne illness. If things don't calm down soon it would be a good idea to see a doctor and get stool tests done to rule them out. I suffered greatly one time when my doctor was convinced my increase in tummy troubles was stress related. I suffered for 2 weeks before she did stool... -
ARCHIVED Need Help Understanding Specifics Of Genetic And Iga/igg Tests
ravenwoodglass replied to kellington79's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since you are symptomatic go ahead and start the diet as soon as your testing is finished. Just because results were negative in 2009 doesn't mean they will be now. You may be feeling better before you even go back for the test results but it can take time for some problems to go away. Welcome to the board and ask any questions you need to. -
ARCHIVED This Testing Is Starting To Mess With My Head...
ravenwoodglass replied to Mum in Norway's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have they ever tested your total IGA? If that is low that would cause a false negative on the IGA testing. Your other test was positive and you reacted badly to the challenge. No matter what label you are given by the doctors your body is telling you it needs you to avoid gluten. I hope you get a clear answer from the biopsy but those can also be a false... -
ARCHIVED Toxic Liver
ravenwoodglass replied to Fishchick72's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Many of us have wonky liver panels when first diagnosed. They will return to normal after some time on the gluten free diet. So just eat gluten free. If the reason you think your liver is 'toxic' is because you are jaundiced then you need to see a doctor. Stay away from cleanses because they can be dangerous for us. Just eat clean and avoid alcohol. -
ARCHIVED Test Result Help - Waiting To Talk To Pcp
ravenwoodglass replied to 1993wel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The fact that you had such a high test result even though you had been gluten free for almost 3 weeks is significant. Your doctor may diagnose you based on that and your resolution of symptoms gluten free. However, and this is a big however, if your doctor wants you to get an endoscopy for confirmation you will need to go back on gluten for at least a couple... -
Welcome to the board. Hellmans is a Unilever company and they will not hide gluten ingredients so simply read the jar. The more important part of your query is that you are 'ordering a gluten-free pizza'. I really hope it was not from Domino's as their pizzas are likely to be heavily cross contaminated and not safe for us. If you are newly diagnosed it...

ARCHIVED Rash On Belly And Itchy Skin
ravenwoodglass replied to answerseeker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have your doctor check your vitamin levels. Especially K and C. It could be DH especially if you have been glutened recently but gluten can give us many different skin problems. I get a very itchy scalp from shampoos with either gluten or soy perhaps you might want to make sure your shampoos are gluten free. If it doesn't clear up soon a trip to a derm will... -
While I realize that you want to feel better as soon as you can you have to keep in mind that if you need or want a diagnosis you HAVE to keep eating gluten until testing is finished. After we stop eating gluten when we start again it can make us quite ill but you do need to get back on it for testing.

ARCHIVED How To Reduce My Chances Of Related Health Problems And Disorders
ravenwoodglass replied to JosieToo's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Try not to worry too much about it. Many of us were undiagnosed for decades and never developed other problems. After 5 years your chance of developing a celiac related cancer go down to the same as the non celiac population from what I understand. However once someone has any autoimmune disease the chances of having another eventually is there. Don't lose... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Have Lupus?
ravenwoodglass replied to jesimae's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you think you may be seriously dehydrated go to the ER since it is the weekend and your doctor is likely not available. You could start with your PCP on Monday. When you call ask to speak to a nurse if possible and tell her what is going on. She can then talk to your doctor and either schedule you there or advise you see a specialist. -
ARCHIVED Hair Color
ravenwoodglass replied to MichLab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Garnier Nutritioness (I think that is spelled right) is gluten free as most of their hair products. They will clearly label gluten ingredients. I touch my hair a lot so I personally prefer my hair care products as well as all body products to be gluten free. There are others that are also safe so a board search should bring up more brands. -
ARCHIVED Hemorrhoids - When To Worry?
ravenwoodglass replied to nvsmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Would it be a bit less embarrassing if you talk to your OB/GYN about it? He/she could give you some advice on how to deal with it and let you know if it is something you should see a GI surgeon about. -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Get Gluten From The Dishwasher?
ravenwoodglass replied to niese's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
At least your cat tries. My won't even lick a plate with chicken or steak on it. She still begs while I cook though, go figure. -
ARCHIVED Is There A Correlation Between Being More Sensitive And Coming Down With A Cold?
ravenwoodglass replied to answerseeker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yea out of everything they tested me for the only thing I wasn't positive for was beech trees I know that bubble feeling. That also included my dog and cats. I had 3 at the time. I didn't have a strong reaction to being near them so I let them stay in the house but stopped allowing the cats in my bedroom. That helped until my system calmed down. My kitties... -
ARCHIVED Is There A Correlation Between Being More Sensitive And Coming Down With A Cold?
ravenwoodglass replied to answerseeker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
While I don't think having a cold will make you more sensitive to CC I do think if you are on gluten (or glutened) it might make you more likely to catch something. I was constantly catching everything that went around before I was diagnosed. Since I have healed I very rarely get ill. My doctor said at diagnosis that my body was so busy fighting the gluten... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Having Problems At Work?
ravenwoodglass replied to jhol's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do get some sublingual B12 as that will help bring those levels up and help with the fatigue as well as your nervous system. I found it helpful even before diagnosis. My last job was hell on earth for me as far as Celiac goes. I wasn't allowed to use a rest room if there was anyone in the store despite the fact that there were two others registars and no... -
ARCHIVED Arthritis And Celiac Disease
ravenwoodglass replied to Beloved's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
May not be the case for you but for me soy will flare my arthritis badly. Maybe eliminate both nightshades and soy for a bit and then challenge them seperately. -
ARCHIVED Apparently You Guys Were Right, It's All In My Head!
ravenwoodglass replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you ever had Cream of Buckwheat cereal? It is high in easily digestable protein and carbs. It should be easy on your stomach. It is gluten free, I use the Pocono brand. If you liked cream of wheat you will likely enjoy Cream of Buckwheat. Eggs are pretty high on the 'foods folks are most likely to be intolerant' to list. If you are going to start with... -
ARCHIVED Needing Some Encouragement...anxiety Kicking In
ravenwoodglass replied to mommyof4's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Congrats on the new job. Celiac can give some folks anxiety but if you haven't had other issues with it since diagnosis or before then your anxiety is most likely due to the big changes that come with going back to work. With a family that includes 4 school age kids going back to work is going to be stressful at first. Hopefully the whole house pitches... -
ARCHIVED Developing Weird Pins And Needles
ravenwoodglass replied to tka's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Try adding some sublingual B12 to your vitamin regime.
