ARCHIVED Peanut Butter..bad Nausea?
gfmolly replied to needtobebetter's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Mandy, I was gluten free and dairy free for a year and still not feeling 100%. So I went on the Specific Carbohydrate diet. As I was introducing foods and noting reactions, I realized that peanut butter always made me have D the next day. Previous to SCD, I had eaten peanut butter everyday on my gluten free waffle! No wonder I wasn't getting better. So... -
ARCHIVED To Chicago, Waukegan, Gurnee - Naval Base In Great Lakes
gfmolly replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
For a start, there is a PF Changs connected to the Gurnee Mills Mall. There are also many Whole Foods in that area, so you should be able to find fresh food while you are there. I am certain I have heard of gluten free pizza available in the Chicago area. Maybe someone else will post with firsthand experience. Best wishes! -

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet Is Working!
gfmolly replied to feelingbetter's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Brenda, I have had success with SCD as well. I have been on it for about two months and all of my symptoms have cleared. I was opposite of you, D was biggest issue. I am feeling so much better, and I was gluten/dairy free for over a year before this, and just was stuck at about 90%. Now I feel 100%, and have been able to add the low-lactose SCD legal... -
ARCHIVED Reintroducing Dairy
gfmolly replied to scottyfeelsick's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Scotty, I waited a full year before I tried dairy and now I am 1 year and two months out and able to tolerate low-lactose products only. I can have most hard cheeses in small amounts, butter and yogurt. that seems to be all, but everyone is different based on the amount of damage before diagnosis. I react by the next morning in the form of D, and... -

I do think your body will tell you what is right for it. I am dairy and gluten free and I cannot tolerate cow's butter. However, I have just found goat butter at Whole Foods and I can tolerate it! I have also been able to tolerate small amounts of goat/sheep cheese and goat yogurt. Everyone is so different, but it is worth a shot. I didn't start branching...

ARCHIVED Eucharist And Communion Bread
gfmolly replied to moldlady's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm in the same situation....I tried just taking the cup, and then realized that I was very sick every Monday after church. There were a few Sundays that I didn't go to church and I wasn't sick on those Mondays! I was going to look into the rice wafers and see what my church says about them. They are pretty progressive for Catholics, so we will see. I don... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
gfmolly replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
So your body seems to be able to handle the yogurt? I am dairy free as well and very skeptical about how I will feel with the dairy in this diet. Are you going to have the different cheeses that are allowed? -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
gfmolly replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My friend is on this diet for three months for colitis and has noticed measurable improvements. She is following it strictly and is feeling great. She's down to 10 mg of prednisone from 20 mg 3 months ago. She plans to stick it out for two years to help her get healed up and off meds. I am thinking about starting this diet after we go to Disney at the end... -
Hi there, If by sloshing you mean gurgling, that is totally me! I was in grad school when this all started and it was so embarassing how noisy my stomach got! Now that I am getting more healed up, that symptom is less present, but if I eat a food that doesn't agree with me, I will get that noisy stomach again. Tinkyada pasta is about the closest thing...

ARCHIVED Immune System Down For Life?
gfmolly replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
But the immune system of a celiac is weakened because of the hyperactivity caused by ingesting gluten. The immune response to the gluten is the immune system attacking itself, but all of that work tires it out and makes us more susceptible to other stuff when the celiac is not under control. This is from the CSA website in regards to immune function: ... -

ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!
gfmolly replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just wanted to follow -up with a cultish group of make-up buddies! I love the eye colors! I still couldn't get the concealer to work well for me-it sort of highlighted the areas I wanted to hide, so I am sure I did it wrong. Anyway, I am so glad that I got turned on to this eye color. Today I used the fine china on my lids and loved the sparkle. We are getting... -

ARCHIVED Is Candy Safe?
gfmolly replied to lwmichaud's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm curious as to what type of test you did for the gluten? My 6 yo has eczema and I have celiac. He has a rash that comes and goes on his cheek that we have tried to figure out but can't. I'm close to taking him to a dermatologist to have it biopsied when it flares. We have tried a diet response and it always seems to get foiled somehow by well-meaning... -
ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!
gfmolly replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm an everyday minerals newbie, persuaded by this thread! So how do you use the foundations? I've never used powdered make-up and don't want to appear too made-up! I got the sample pack and then a mini of a bunch of eye shadow. Thanks for any advice!! Terri -
I thought that charcoal can have wheat in it? Does anyone know if the charcoal they use at Weber Grill is gluten-free? Thanks! Bonefish is an awesome idea. We have one in Brookfield and it is soooo good. I just need to plan ahead for the kids, cause they get impatient waiting in a restaurant. Nothing I can't handle!

Hi, We are taking my 6yo son to the mall in Schaumberg, IL to the lego store for his birthday. Does anyone have suggestions as to where I could eat a nice sit-down meal in that area? It would double as a birthday dinner, so family appropriate is a must! Thanks for any suggestions! Terri

ARCHIVED Breat Feeding Vs Bottle
gfmolly replied to cloesb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I developed celiac after I had breastfed both of my children, so I am not sure if I can offer any advice on that matter. However, I had a horrible time breastfeeding my first child because I just couldn't produce enough milk. With my second child breastfeeding was a breeze and I was able to keep at it until he was a year old. It was certainly more challenging... -
ARCHIVED Fertility Awareness Method Vs Birth Control
gfmolly replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I just went off of b/c because I couldn't find a pill that didn't have lactose in it. And I couldn't find another method that didn't make me react with "d". So we are onto condoms as well. We have our two kids and don't want to get pregnant again either! Do you have any good advice on where to find more info on this method? Sorry to jump in on your thread... -
Thanks everyone! Keep the tunes coming-it really is helpful. I'm not doing so well with my goal...but haven't given up. My favorite thing to listen to so far has been some good Dave Matthews tunes. Two-Step is a good one and they last forever, so that helps me stay on the treadmill! Terri
