  1. You can also ask a Mgr. at Wal-Mart to order it for you since other Wal-Mart's have it. Most of the time they are very willing to check and order for you. Also if you know of a Wal-Mart close to your's that carries the item you want they will get that store to ship it over for you. I live 45 min. from the city and our Wal-Mart has called the other stores...
  2. I just had this happen to me this week. My husband bought some corn tortillias that had that warning on them. I did not realize he had bought a different kind and ate part of one. I had put some tomato product on it like a baguette but didn't like the taste so I only had 2 bites. The next day I was in so much pain and couldn't figure out what I had done...
  3. I have had wrist and finger pain for years. Even had a wrist replacement 22 yrs ago. Right before I was diognosed with Celiac I had the worst pain and swelling in my fingers and hands that I have ever had. Since going gluten free 4 months ago the swelling and redness has decreased. The pain is almost gone. Unless I eat rice products or get glutened....
  4. Welcome, I was a lurker too for 3 months and just posted my story over the 4th of July. This is a wonderful place to find answers and new friends. It's nice you found a Dr. who will listen to you. Yellow Rose
  5. Yes it had both yeast and baking powder. I will give letting it rise a try. I considered myself a pretty good cook and an excellent baker until I started working with this stuff. Thanks, Yellow Rose
  6. Mixing well enough but this stuff doesn't rise according to the directions. You make it and pop it in the oven. It didn't get any bigger I did notice that. The crust was done but the inside was gummy. Yellow Rose
  7. I have been discussing this with my daughter the biochemist. She has been discussing it with her teachers and other scientists that she works with. Those of us with the antibodies can get glutened from absorption not just from the gut. I don't know what kind of reaction you would get if you usually have DH but what happens to me is pain in my muscles...
  8. Sounds wonderful. I used to make them with egg whites that you fluffed up and added the other stuff to. They were so light they almost floted. I will enjoy being able to eat a good waffle again. Thanks, Yellow Rose
  9. My mom bought me The Gluten Free Kitchen by Roben Ryberg. I have made the Applesauce Quick Bread. The first batch was very gummy and very weird tasting. The second bacth was still weird tasting but was not as gummy I have not bought a new toaster yet so I grilled it with butter and it was ok I put some jam on it and it was kinda like french toast. Today...
  10. I used to work at Wal-Mart and if there is something you want find a mgr. and tell them and they will try to order for you. Our local HEB grocery is the same way. Yellow Rose
  11. I have a Dairy Queen several blocks away and in the next town over. Here I do the sundays on the list but you have to watch out for the whipped cream and nuts. I always felt bad the next day and deceided to try it with out the whipped cream and nuts (pecans for me) didn't have any problems. I talked with the mgr and he read me the list on the whipped...
  12. I called the company several weeks ago as I was craving my mom's raw veggie dip and Hidden Valley is gluten free. Yellow Rose
  13. When I first started I felt butterflies right below my belly button for about 2 or 3 weeks. Now it's only once in a while. Nausea is also common it will pass as well. I read every post and am still at it (up to page 79 at this time) and found every new or odd symptom that I was experiencing was felt by someone else. It helped to know I wasn't nuts. Yellow...
  14. Maltodextrin is ok, food starch can be made from corn or wheat when in doubt call the company and they will tell you the source. Yellow Rose
  15. Mine came from my grandmother on my mother's side of the family. She died of colon cancer at 83. I have a first cousin and an aunt who have both been diognosed with celiac. My first cousin is from my grandmother's first marriage, and my aunt is from her second marriage and that is how we figured out where it came from. My grandmother's parents were from...
  16. Thanks everyone ya'll made my day!! Yellow Rose
  17. My daughter was very ill four years ago and we went to an allergist who has a 2 year waiting list. The priest I worked for was a friend of his and he got us in. Long story short he fixed my daughter and saved her life. What he told us about allergies is that it takes 30 days for any food to get completely out of your system. After 30 days if it is an...
  18. I do and have to use a massager every night or I can't get to sleep. It usually takes me at least 1/2 hr per leg before it settles down and sometimes it wakes me up and I start over. Yellow Rose
  19. Don't know about normal but there is new info suggesting 1/2 tsp of cinnamon a day in the morning will normalize blood sugar. My husband has been taking with applesauce and has had no more low blood sugar problems since about a week after starting this. I have read it in two magazines and seen it being talked about on TV by a Dr. Yellow Rose
  20. I was never a big bread person but I miss my crackers. Any suggestions on which ones to try. I can't do rice it makes my joints hurt like the dickens. I liked Ritz, saltines, ones with seeds or veggies, you name it if it was a cracker I liked it. Yellow Rose
  21. My daughter the bio-chemist and I have been asking about celiac vs intolerances. This is what we have learned so far from her teachers and allergist Dr. If you have been diognosed with celiac you have antibodies running around in your body that will never go away and will always react. When your antibodies find something that it does not know it grabs...
  22. Thanks everyone, I have noticed this week that I am not as painful since finding the corn tortillias with possible CC. I have only changed that one thing and was better in the beginning before I picked up the wrong brand. In Texas we have HEB grocery and they have an HEB Homestyle corn tortillia that has no wheat and the others listed and they are to die...
  23. My understanding is it has to do with not being able to absorb latic acid. I read this early on somewhere on this site. I have been going through the old pages one at a time you might try a search under seizures to see if it comes up. A blood test is easy enough to ask for as a start. Will pray for your answer. Yellow Rose
  24. Hello Everyone, My name is Carole Edminson/Yellow Rose from Hondo, TX and I have been skulking around for the past 3 months trying to figure out how to work this site. I finally figured it out and here is my story. My husband is a Deacon in the Catholic Church and of course we pray for lots of people but I rarely pray for myself. In Oct of 2006 I pulled...
  25. Thanks for the heads up. I have been eating corn tortillas thinking they were only corn. I kept wondering where I was getting gluten from. I swear I checked the pkg. but went back just now and looked sure enough in fine print manufactured in a plant that processes nuts and wheat. CC again and starting over. Yellow Rose
