  1. Burping and chest pain were my daughter's two most noticeable symptoms. She gets gluten and 5 minutes later she is a belching fool, and it is very, very painful for her in the chest area. She never described it as being over her heart, more in her throat--but it is the burping that had has back to the doctor over and over again. Not until she was completely...
  2. gluten-free corn chips and velveeta-like cheese for nachos.
  3. Glutino frozen Mac N Cheese. Glutino pretzels. Kinnickinnick donuts. Annie Chungs rice bowls (microwaveable brown and sticky rice). Fresh fruits and veggies. gluten-free chicken nuggets (there are a few kinds at whole foods). You might think about buying a cheap toaster while you're there. Maybe can find one under $10. That would...
  4. Cream of rice is so-so in my daughter's book. I just bought some Cream of Buckwheat and she preferred that over cream of rice, and I add about 1/4 cup of brown sugar as well.
  5. Excellent! I'll pick some up today! It probably wouldn't hurt for me to take it too.
  6. Awesome. Thanks for the referral. Did you know if your daughter was deficient? How was she tested for vitamin deficiencies? I'm hesitant to give her a vitamin if I don't know for sure she needs it. My reasoning behind it is to see if I can help with some of the mental focus/ADD-like stuff that hasn't seemed to clear since going gluten-free (and we're...
  7. Is there such a thing as sublingual B12 for kids? I don't want to OD her on vitamins but it definitely seems like she's lacking. She takes a multivitamin plus calcium every day and eats a pretty well-rounded gluten-free diet. Probably more cookies than needed, but she really enjoys healthy foods and isn't overweight so I don't worry about that part too...
  8. I'd think so, but I'm no doctor of course. I know my DD before going gluten free had AWFUL leg pains. They seemed to have shaped up since going gluten-free. Only when she's glutened does she get that leg pain. I do need to make sure she's getting enough VitD. I've started making her salmon omlettes for breakfast because both salmon and eggs have good...
  9. I didn't explicitly avoid it, but I don't remember eating it in abundance when I was pregnant. I had major food issues when I was preggers. With my son, who is almost 4, I couldn't eat warm food. I would only eat cold food like cold cuts, fudgecicles, pudding. With my daughter who is 10, I just ate strawberries.
  10. My daughter had a girl in her Kindergarten class who was severe peanut allergy and it was a peanut-free classroom. We couldn't pack PB for lunches either, due to odor and residue. It was a pain, but we got around it. I figure teaching my kid to like turkey and cheese instead of PB&J is far less a big deal than making sure a kid doesn't die at the...
  11. We are seriously a leftovers family. We cook big dinners (usually very easy ones too, something on the grill or crock pot) and make sure we make more for leftovers. It works very well. Shifting from a don't-eat-then-splurge-going-out to a planning food in advance is really a mental shift. I ALWAYS used to just grab food and go whenever I felt like eating...
  12. My daughter's tastes have definitely changed. Oreos used to be her favorite food. After a few months gluten-free we got our hands on some Kinni-Toos which to me taste the same as Oreos. To her, they are way too sweet and they just aren't as enjoyable now.
  13. I don't know what I would do about this forum. My learning curve for the gluten-free life would have not have been so quick had I not found this place!
  14. Wow. Dinner in downtown denver is easy. Breakfast could be a little trickier. Are you staying at a hotel? Do you know which end of downtown you'll be? I work downtown and can give some restaurant suggestions, but pretty much wherever you go you'll be doing a bit of explaining to your server.
  15. That is SO wonderful!!! It just brings tears to my eyes. What a special teacher!
  16. Our best luck with bread has been Chebe. We use the kind you add cheese to. Even the non-gluten-free eaters we know love the stuff! We haven't had much luck with sandwich bread, but my daughter does like the white sandwich bread by kinnickinnick for toast.
  17. Thanks for clarifying. I wasn't sure exactly what the full intent of the medication was. That is good to know--and makes it that much more of a valuable tool.
  18. I wholeheartedly agree with you. We have talked extensively with our daughter about this medication (who is also just 8 short years away from college). We don't see it as something to be used so she can gorge on pizza every day. Just because a pill keeps her from getting sick, doesn't mean non-GI symptoms won't exist after eating gluten. However, I see it...
  19. Another good thing about Walmart's-brand products, is if they say "processed in a facility that handles wheat" they won't list it as gluten-free, even if the ingredients don't contain gluten. Buying mainstream products and going off ingredients list really comes down to the trust factor with that manufacturer. You will notice your brand loyalty significantly...
  20. Obviously YOU know that feeding her gluten is not helping her so it sounds like she will go gluten-free regardless of what you decide re: biopsy--and that is a good thing. A positive diagnosis from a doctor is nice, but a positive dietary response and a healthy child trumps that any day.
  21. I certainly wouldn't rule it out and your symptoms seem consistent with the many symptoms of gluten intolerance and celiac, especially since you seemed to have a positive response to a gluten-free diet. It would definitely be worth seeing a good GI doc about, although the testing process requires for you to continue eating gluten. Even then, the tests...
  22. Thanks so much for your willingness to be a subject for this testing and potentially risking your health to help others. Please let us know (if you can!) how it goes!
  23. I haven't talked to the principal yet about the full-on gluten-free breakfast for everyone, but I did get clearance from my dear daughter to volunteer at the event to ensure her meal isn't CCd. At minimum, I'll make hers with equipment I bring from home. I'd LOVE to see everyone enjoy a gluten-free breakfast (I doubt they'd even know it was gluten-free...
  24. My daughter had nightmares about being glutened for about 2 months after diagnosis.
  25. She's in a production called A Child's Christmas in Wales: Open Original Shared Link. We live in Arvada, so I have the joy of driving to Boulder 6 days a week for her rehearsals. She dedicates all her performances to the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness.
