  1. I picked some gluten-free Pantry brand pie crust mix up today so I can practice for Thanksgiving. I never made pie crust before, gluten-free or not so I'm hoping anyone who has used this mix can share your experiences or any tips and tricks for this particular crust.
  2. Wow! I just have to say way to go on taking care of yourself educationally at a relatively young age. Whichever program you choose, you are bound to do well.
  3. My birthday was last Wednesday and I had asked for a tortilla press because I bought a big bag of masa flour and wanted to try my hand at homemade corn tortillas. Well, I got the press and finally had a chance to make them today. OH MY GOODNESS!!! There is not an easier thing on the planet to do than make homemade corn tortillas!!!! I don't have the...
  4. Tomorrow we are going to a Cel-Kids event (just a chance for Celiac kids and their parents to hang out). It will be the first time Victoria has a chance to meet other kids with Celiac Disease. There are 2 at her school, but they are in a few grades higher than her so I am REALLY REALLY REALLY hoping for a girl who is 9-11 ish for her to be pals with!!!! ...
  5. Snatch up some the pizza crusts and garlic bread!! We eat Debys pizza crust when we order from Beau Jos and tried the garlic bread when we ate at Abruscis. Debys supplies gluten-free options to many restaurants in the Denver area in addition to the gluten-free restaurant. My daughter wasn't too excited with the spaghetti but we've been itchin' to go...
  6. Today I was doing my weekly shopping which included a trip to Vitamin Cottage, a local health store here in CO. I actually went to two different ones because I was hunting down Kinnickinnick pizza crusts (they fly off the shelves I tell ya). BOTH stores had prepared gluten-free Thanksgiving foods and were handing out samples. My daughter was in HEAVEN...
  7. I've found eating out at steakhouses to be some of the best experiences we've had. We (it is my daughter who is gluten-free) ask for a steak that is not marinated and just cooked w/ salt and pepper. Also, baked potatoes are usually a good substitute for a rice dish you might be unsure of. They are usually kept in a warmer and have little chance to come into...

  9. The only positive benefit of a biopsy could be qualifying you for future medical studies that require a biopsy diagnosis (why that would be better than a DH diagnosis is beyond me) or if there is any other damage your GI wants to check for. Other than that, from a practical daily life POV, a biopsy is not necessary.
  10. Them being only gluten-free would be enough for some, and it is certainly a step in the right direction.
  11. Yes! Please share how you use coconut flour. I was just reading how it is high in fiber. I'd love to know good ways to use it too. Is the flavor coconutty?
  12. We love Kozy Shack anything, and especially love the Gluten Free label right on the containers. I go ga ga for Kozy Shack tapioca!
  13. It happens ALL the time. As others will chime in I'm sure, many folks here had negative blood tests (notoriously unreliable) who are sensitive to gluten. It's usually referred to as a gluten sensitivity rather than an allergy. The important thing is you feel better without eating gluten and many others here will encourage you to continue eating gluten...
  14. Amen. Bento is the BEST!
  15. While I see how the endoscopy may seem daunting, it could also help rule out (or identify) a whole host of problems--as mentioned in a previous post. Sure, you could try the gluten-free diet and see improvement, however the risk associated with an endoscopy is very low. It is actually a very quick and simple, painless procedure. My daughter thought the barium...
  16. Great idea! Here's mine! Product Example: Bag of chips How to Contaminate the Product: Hands that have touched gluten reaching into the bag and contaminating product. Solution to avoid Contamination: Individual bags of chips Washing hands before sharing bag Not sharing bag and pouring chips into individual containers before consuming Product...
  17. WOW! First of all hooray for you for seeking something out that is acceptable. You have no idea how often someone doesn't know or doesn't care. You must be a true friend! My daugther safely eats Butterfingers, Starbursts (even has gluten free label), and Skittles (also labeled gluten free). Some other things I've read about that are gluten free are...
  18. Don't worry, you're not the only one. Everyone in my house LOVES to eat, gluten-free or not, plus I do MAD amounts of laundry which = about $35 a month just for laundry soap!
  19. Wow! Thanks for sharing! I saw these in the store the other day but only found the beef stew. I'd love to find the sweet and sour chicken for my daughter. These would be great for those lazy nights when I want to feed the kids fast!
  20. It's totally driving me crazy to understand that! I know Barbara's cereals are all wheat free--assumingly safe for for people with a wheat allergy, however all but one of the cereals contains oat flour--making it unsafe for Celiacs. Kind of a silly thing to be worried about, but understanding the difference would be helpful!
  21. This is another weird oat question... Since it is known that commercial oats are contaminated with gluten due to processing, etc. do wheat-allergy sufferers also have to avoid commercial oat products? Why, if oats are so contaminated, that a "wheat" allergen statement isn't listed on most oat products?
  22. Thanks for sharing zarfkitty! I am always curious about the oat quantity limits, such as the 1/4 safe for kids information. I guess I don't understand what would make 1/2 cup of oats unsafe versus 1/4 cup of oats that is safe. Hmmm...
  23. We keep a gluten-free house even though only our daughter is the only one with Celiacs. We found it too hard to maintain gluten items alongside non-gluten items. Those pesky crumbs! Also, my son is only 3 1/2 and if he was regularly eating gluten, he'd be a cross-contamination nightmare! That way we can all smooch eachother freely in the house without worrying...
  24. According to the web site, the ingredients appear to be safe: Open Original Shared Link
  25. 1. Many chicken broths have gluten. I use the organic Wolfgang Puck broths that are labeled gluten free and are available at my regular grocery store. 2. We use Bob's Red Mill all purpose flour and Pamela's pancake mix for just about everything we need flour for. 3. School lunches are always an adventure. Lately I have been sending homemade crispy chicken...
