  1. Yes, Kix has oat flour which makes it unsafe for Celiacs. It is not likely the manufacturer used uncontaminated oats to make the cereal.
  2. I remember when I was pregnant, my dr. didn't want me taking any cold medicines. I got a wicked cold when I was preggers so I used Tylenol and Vicks vapor rub (they also have shower soother tablets now, too) which helped a ton. I don't know if the Vicks rub has gluten in it or not, but it might be an alternative for you if you don't know if those meds...
  3. Our son is very prone to eczema. We have a L1 steroid cream (he can't take Elidel) we used to clear it up when it was really bad and after his showers we cover him head-to-toe in moisturizer which seems to keep us on top of it. He's about due for a follow-up allergy testing (he tested low positive for peanuts at 13 months and he's almost 4).
  4. We had to go through the "hand sanitizer doesn't kill gluten" thing with my daughter's teachers. The one thing that drives me crazy about her school is that they rely on hand sanitizer more than hand washing. You can't "kill" gluten because it isn't alive, so my daugther has some wipes in her desk and in her lunchbox she uses to clean her personal space...
  5. Maybe you could use Kinnickinnick pizza shells. Cover the surface with olive oil then add the seeds, spices, etc. that you want. I've started using them for more and more things. My daughter isn't a pizza fan so much, but loves garlic bread, so I made garlic cheese sticks with these shells over the weekend. They were so good!!!! I'd imagine you could capture...
  6. My daughter had atopic eczema prior to her Celiac dx. Just weird patches of dry, flakey, red skin on her shins. It responded well to the cream our doctor subscribed for eczema cream (I don't remember the name of the rx). However, it cleared up and has remained clear completely since she started eating gluten-free in May.
  7. I've also "heard" that Victoria Beckett (Posh Spice) has it as well, although I've found conflicting information on the web about it.
  8. I think that is a great idea. I might try something similar with my 10 year old. This is her first Halloween as a Celiac. Do you happen to have that list you were given for this year's gluten-free halloween candy? I've been looking for a current one, but only can find one from ROCK for 2006.
  9. Here is a really good example: Open Original Shared Link
  10. sadly, you can't relax at all. crumbs can't even touch your food or you will likely get sick. if you still are not feeling well, you might consider laying off dairy for a while and making sure none of the products you use that could come in contact with your mouth (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, lipstick, makeup, etc) do not have gluten either.
  11. Short Version: There is damage to your intestine (the villi in the duodenum) and that damage is consistent with individuals with Celiac Disease.
  12. We are a Crest family as well.

    ARCHIVED Stupid Doctor

First of all, tell him at least you can manage childbirth with a high-risk OB specialist. He can't do anything to keep from passing the a$$hole gene to his kids. Then, fire his sorry butt and find yourself an OB practice you feel comfortable with and has experience with high-risk pregnancies. What a schmuck. I'm sorry that happened to you. Here...
  14. Often times restaurants that are just Thai food have many gluten-free options and PF Changs offers a gluten-free menu as well. Unfortunately, most restaurants, Asian and otherwise, make it tricky to eat out because of the risks of cross contamination. Agreeably, it sucks. Days of take-out and food delivery will probably be a thing of the past. I can...
  15. La Choy soy sauce is gluten-free, as are several other kinds. There is also gluten-free hoisen and teryaki availalble at Whole Foods and such.
  16. In general, too, I've heard what you've said about Amy's. We've never tried their products because I've read too much here that folks have had trouble with CC and Amy's products. I'm sorry to hear you've had a bad experience.
  17. I'm no pro in the kitchen, but I do like to modify foods we once ate with gluten to a gluten-free version. This time was an Itlalian goulash. We usually make this when we don't have anything else in the house to eat except spaghetti--but don't want just spaghetti. (Sorry, I wish it was CF, too, but I bet you CF folks out there could modify it as such). ...
  18. OH YES! That is a lovely milestone!!! I love when my daughter gets the feeling of fullness because something she at was so yummy!!! My favorites are when we find a food she loves and then find out it is gluten-free to boot! Like T Marzettie's caramel apple dip!!!! Or really hit the jackpot with a gluten-free substitute food and it tastes wonderful...
  19. This is when it comes in handy to know company's manufacturing practices. For example, Frito Lay also processes wheat but cleans their lines between products. Often, people have no problem eating gluten-free Frito Lay products known to be gluten free. Same goes for Kraft products. I trust if I buy something from Kraft, it will be a safe food if there...
  20. We went through a phase when my daughter was first diagnosed of trying every gluten-free replacement product on the market. Most of them tasted so icky at first because that isn't what we were used to. We went primarily on a whole-foods diet. Many fresh veggies, but often frozen to save money as well. Now we have a few packaged gluten-free foods that...
  21. Last night my daughter ate a milky way! I was waiting for the full-on reaction knowing that Snickers = Safe and Milky Way = Malt. Thankfully, no reaction (GI anyway) ever came other than a few raunchy belches but boy was I mad!! I think she made an honest mistake but I could swear I've told her Milky Way is not safe (it wasn't the dark variety). You...
  22. That is exactly the case. Everyone's reactions are different. No matter how much gluten my daughter gets, though, she has the same reaction (which is relatively mild to some). The only variable for her is how long until she's feeling better. More gluten = longer the reaction. That is about the only thing I've been able to figure out.
  23. Glad to hear he is OK!
  24. Celiacs by nature are very food-sensitive. Because the gluten has unthoughtfully chopped the tips of your villi from your small intestine, it is very hard for your body to absorb nutrients, especially in hard to digest foods such as dairy (remember, cow's milk is supposed to be for baby cows!) and soy. Some Celiacs have no problems with dairy or soy, but...
  25. Even at such a young age, the blood tests could be extremely unreliable anyway, resulting in a false negative. Really the easiest thing to do is try the diet. I guess since your little guy is 11 months old, it would mostly be YOU on the gluten-free diet if you are still nursing. It's really not super hard once you get the hang of it, but definitely overwhelming...
