  1. I could go on and on about TMJ. It started with symptoms I never would have put together. The dizziness was killer. Everything spinned all the time and I seriously felt like I wanted to stick a needle in my ear and "pop" what felt like fluid. I've always been a teeth grinder and it's been a stressful year or two which means more teeth grinding. Plus,...
  2. We've had varying degrees of success talking with family members about it. We have a big family and there are many bases to cover. There's a great section in the book Kids with Celiac Disease by Danna Korn about the varying types of "getting it" and I really found a lot of truth to that. Some people just won't ever get it or seem interested or think it's...
  3. 1. How often does your child get glutened? Not often. Each stretch is longer than the next. At first it was like once a week it seemed. Then once every two weeks, then a month. We're still pretty new at this. I haven't glutened her in a long time. It's been a case of CC two times from a restaurant (different ones) and a CC at MILs house. Some weird mustard...
  4. I actually gave DD the option of having some and she declined. She said herself that food that is too processed doesn't taste very good and doesn't make her feel well. Not like a glutening, but just doesn't feel "right." So, I'm beaming proud of course that she is making good food choices for herself. No Cheetos for the classroom for her, she wants...
  5. Not that I want to discourage you from homeschooling if you think that would help (and a private school does make a difference--that is where my kids go), but my daughter who was extremely advanced for her age was also tired and cranky and asleep by 6pm the first probably month or so of kindergarten. They had a rest period during the day and she always fell...
  6. TMJ is what has caused me headaches and dizziness and the feeling like my ears were leaking, etc. I'm non Celiac, if that makes a difference and I had dizziness and nausea symptoms long before I felt pain in my jaw.
  7. And after reading your gluten-free/CF/Soy free for 3 and I suspect that is much more difficult than me simply managing 1 gluten-free child.
  8. My DD is in 5th grade this year (which makes it easier since she's older and been in school longer), and her first full year at school after being dxd. It has gone very well, although we have had to take a few precautions we didn't even think of. I send two wet-wipes in her lunchbox so she can wipe her lunch space in the lunchroom and then another to clean...
  9. We purchased some by the new company "Out of the Breadbox" last night at Vitamin Cottage and we'll be eating them sometime this week. We haven't really tried any store-bought crusts since DD was dxd. I miss pizza.
  10. My daughter is 10 and has Celiac disease (dxd just this past May) and she goes in to the peds GI at Children's Hospital in Denver (who dxd her) to discuss a DEXA scan in 6 months. They might not do one right away, but certainly at the onset of puberty. So, no, I wouldn't say 32 seems young, in fact seems appropriate and preventative considering the myriad...
  11. What a glorious thing that must be.
  12. No Trader Joe's here but I've seen the "puffy" ones in the Vitamin Cottage near my house. As for MSG, we generally avoid it because it's bad for you, but DD has never reacted to it so I'm not *too* worried about that part.
  13. Last year for my DD was her toughest year as we really got into the heart of the Celiac symptoms. She too is absolutely brilliant and WAY beyond her peers socially and academically, but last year there were things that jumped out at me that it seemed like she should be able to do easily. I even considered ADD (not hyperactive) at one time because I just couldn...
  14. Good to know about Cold Stone. We have one near our house (we are gluten-free, not CF as well) and total ice cream junkies. I didn't know exactly how Cold Stone worked and I was afraid to ask. That sounds like a great alternative to a scary scoop!
  15. I noticed it too, the last few batches we've bought. We're loyal Yoplait eaters anyway so it was nice to see them add this to the label. DD loves the cherry yoplait and it's one way I can get her to eat dairy and get some calcium into her as she's not a big dairy fan otherwise.
  16. Best wishes to you and your upcoming baby! I get so hungry looking at your avatar! My oldest is also a "Tori" although she usually goes by Victoria.
  17. My DD also had the dark circles before dx and they have disappeared as well since going gluten-free. Her eyes have actually always been a good indicator of when she was getting sick. The normal bruise-ish look would turn red when she was getting a bonafide illness such as fever, strep, etc.
  18. As a parent of a child Celiac, I don't know if would blatently let her have gluten and rely on a pill to make her better, but I'd love it as an option if she were accidentally glutened to help ease some of those symptoms. Perhaps on a special, special occasion let her have one of her favorite gluten foods. We too have embraced the gluten-free lifestyle and...
  19. We haven't been brave enough to try stopping for ice cream at a place. It's either a Frosty or we buy it at the grocery store to eat at home. Ice cream scoops seem scary! All that gluten touching going on. Our one exception was when we were eating out at a restaurant and the manager opened a new container for DD so she could have ice cream on her birthday...
  20. We had been doing so well. No glutenings in over a month, which was our longest stretch yet. DD has been gluten-free since May. This weekend she spent the night at my MILs house. We've versed her really well in the OK foods and the not OK foods and usually bring extra stuff for her to eat in case MIL is unsure of something (she's stayed there before with...
  21. We are HUGE patrons of Noodles. DD just likes the rice noodles with butter but I usually make her add some veggies and beef so it has some real nutritional value. We always go to the same Noodles, if we can help it, and we're getting to know the staff and manager. The manager said there is about 20-30 people who come in every week for the rice noodles because...
  22. Ya know, the more I've read around here, the 16-25 year olds have a real time with this. Between getting parents and doctors to believe you, that must be really tough. I'm so thankful so many of you have had the gumption to look this stuff up yourself and find your way here. As the mom of a Celiac I can't imagine not having this place as a resource, if only...

ARCHIVED Dr. In Grand Junction, Co.?

Is it for you or a family member? DD sees the GIs at Children's in Denver. We live in Arvada, though. I know GJ is a ways away though (my dad lives there). I'd start maybe with the phone book with Physicians > Gastroenterology
  24. I often wonder about muscle pain with my DD. She's always had really bad growing pains before being diagnosed Celiac. It seems that the pain has flared up now that she is gluten-free. Seems always feels tingling in her legs and her back hurts. It's hard to put myself in her shoes since I am not Celiac and sometimes I don't know if it is for sympathy or if...
  25. We've yet been brave enough to try going out for ice cream, save a Frosty from Wendy's since the CC risk is so low there. We've calculated the ice cream scooping process and even if a particular ice cream is gluten free, I don't trust that a scoop that has touched cone or brownie or the like hasn't been dipped back in there, CCing the whole carton. One...
