  1. I used to wake up with my heart racing, sweaty palms because I was dreaming that I ate gluten and was terrified of becoming more ill. They lasted for months, but they seem to have let up. (I was diagnosed June 2007)
  2. There is a catering company that my job orders from and they will do gluten-free meals. I got one for a conference and the chicken atop the salad had blue mold. All I can say is make sure if the place does gluten-free options, people actually use them on a regular basis, so they go through there stock. Besides that, I keep some dressing in the fridge...
  3. I call it the go-go-gadget belly. The only thing that made it better was IBS medication... but I broke out in hives from it, so I am trying another kind, but its not working. Avoiding fried foods, beans, sugars, whole grains and dairy helps some, but not completely.
  4. My roommate was telling me how good Kickass's regular cupcakes are and I got a little jealous. I am excited to try their gluten-free versions. My downstairs neighbor is the owner of Hot off the Press. The last time I went in there she offered to wrap the sandwich in tin foil and then press it. (so it was safe, crunchy and goody!) Her name is Erin...
  5. Thanks JA, things are a little better, gut-wise... but I am suspecting its going to take a while. (I can at least make it through the night without be awoken with sharp abdominal pains, so there's a start I was really surprised, they got back to me in less than 2 hours. I hope that their packaging will change soon, but yeah, I never thought I was...
  6. I just wrote this to Utz: I am writing to formally request the following: 1. You remove the
  7. I think the suggestion for attempting to educate this person is a sold one. This doctor knows what it feels like to be sick and unwell and (I am assuming here) that by nature of being a doctor s/he doesn't want others to suffer. I think it could be a great opportunity to include information about the new correlation between Type 1 diabetes, the NEJM...
  8. I know someone on this forum warned me 4+ months ago... but I finally figured out why I was experience sever abdominal pain, D and rectal bleeding this weekend Utz Potato Chips I tried their kettle chips. Big mistake, huge.
  9. Thank you for posting this! My dad has been in the hospital for the past 8 days, and they cannot figure out what is 'wrong.' I have been squawking at the man for MONTH to get tested (he had an unknown rash that 6 different creams didn't help) and I said "just get your skin biopsied!" I hope this will push my mom over the edge and help advocate for...
  10. I will be there at the beginning of June... gluten-free, dairy-lite. Also looking for suggestions. Thanks!
  11. I have taken a long break from this board, but I think I am FINALLY making some progress. At the urging of my GI who suspected IBS (in addition to the celiac disease) a month ago I started a non-therapeutic does of an anti-depressant. The last two weeks were amazing! One bm a day instead of 8. Some abdomen pain, but it wasn't constant and I had ENERGY...
  12. I should explain that my reaction to the prep was a bit more specific... I did the mag citrate and I must have had some sores/cuts because it was as if I was passing shards of glass and lemon juice. The pain was so bad I blacked out for a few seconds. I then started dry heaving and couldn't finish it. My father did the go-lity and had no problem....
  13. dr. green's book also notes that there can be false ttg positives because of other autoimmune disease/disorders i really wish someone would do a research study on the phenomenon
  14. Jin - thanks, no odd body reactions thus far... perhaps I am in the "gluten clear" Mia - I had a very bad reaction to the colonoscopy prep... but i think i am in the minority drink more fluids than you think is humanly possible the dehydration headache is pretty bad have a variety of prepared foods ready for when you get home... even though you probably...
  15. "pure" vanilla extra is made from vanilla beans (dried orchid pods), water & alcohol (the alcohol is usually a vodka-like substance, but it can be bourbon... which may be fortified post-distilling, so watch out there) imitation vanilla or "vanillin" is made from chemically processed woodchips You can make your own vanilla extract at home. Put...
  16. I have had experience with 4 GI's in Boston and none of them I would recommend. Normally I would not do this, but DO NOT GO TO Dr. Torre Morgan at Mt. Auburn Hospital. I cannot say this with more warning.
  17. Thanks Kassandra. I tried to puke it up, but I just couldn't. I feel like a messed-up Mr. Wizard experimental body.
  18. I have not been posting much, this flu has completely wiped me out. So I haven't been to the store or able to cook, but I had to go to work (huge project) so I went and bought lunch. Long story short... I got a veggie burger (w/out bun) instead of a plain hamburger, even after going through the order twice with the waitress. I consumed one forkful...
  19. My biopsy results came back on Thursday (I haven't posted because I have been on the couch with a fever fighting the flu). My stomach and intestines are "normal" The doctor said that it could be 1. I have celiac disease and have responded well to the gluten free diet 2. I don't have celiac disease and the test results back in May were a mistake ...
  20. Thank you all for your support. Sometimes I just wish I could take a vacation from this body. The endoscopy went fine yesterday. Everything looked "normal" and I will have the biopsy results in 1-2 weeks. The drugs completely knocked me out, I slept all day and night and now am dealing with the shakes, headache and lovely D. I hate narcotics, HATE...
  21. I have been avoiding the board as of late, here is my quick run by. A fight about dietary restrictions blew way out of proportion and I ended up not spending the holidays with family. It was a horrible fight and I was really upset. Its not like I needed to feel more guilty/self conscious/upset about not being able to eat ANY of my favorites, nor even...
  22. Thank you to those who posted regarding my testing questions. I think 1. I am cranky, I was told "no holiday food for you" 2. I am in denial. I honestly think that there is hope for pizza and beer in my future... I know it is messed up, but I keep thinking "maybe they got it wrong" 3. I am cranky (my dads 2nd eye surgery went well, but its been really...
  23. TEST RESULT QUESTION May 07 - TtG positive (58 - normal is <20) June 07 - elevated IgG gliadin antibodies *Started Gluten Free Diet* October 07 - IgG gliadin antibodies HIGHER than in June November 07 - TtG negative Would would you say/do? (FYI - I have not gotten "better" on the gluten-free diet, things have been a roller coaster of bad to...
  24. Jin - Happy birthday! mftnchn - legumes, no, they cause too much gas I tried quinoa and some sorghum this weekend - no good. Also tried some dairy - even worse I think the rectal bleeding was from the corn. I regurgitated chicken and voided carrots in their original form. I am back to "what the hell CAN I eat?!" again. If anyone knows...
