  1. Gluten-free Pantry makes a chocolate chip cookie mix that has instructions to make a really good cookie cake. Everyone in my family loves it!
  2. I posted a similar post when we were first figuring out the diet. I think everyone goes through this when making this lifestyle change; there is a learning curve. To help you avoid my mistake: I took my daughter out for ice cream and researched the safe flavors, totally forgetting that the scoops cross contaminate everything.
  3. The two commercial gluten-free playdohs we've tried have been disappointing. One is crumbly and not very moldable and the other has a very strong scent added to it that was okay at first but now the kids complain about it. We usually use moonsand in place of playdoh. It is a pain to clean up after but the kids love it. Target has a few sets on clearance...
  4. Great to know! I miss Chinese take-out quite a bit so we'll try that soon!
  5. Their customer service is not very good. My sister has an elderly gluten-intolerant dog and Canidae gave her the run around for days about their new formula. Ugh. Anyway, there are lots of good alternatives out there. My dogs are doing well on California Natural and my cats love the grain-free Wellness foods.
  6. Celiac testing is notoriously inaccurate at that age (lots of false negatives). So if she's doing well on the diet, I'd keep her on the diet no matter what the tests say. I'm sorry you didn't get a more definitive answer. That's always hard.
  7. We're really happy with California Natural. My dog has a sensitive stomach and this food has really helped her a lot. Plus they have the small bites which is just perfect for our little terrier and chi-mix! And we spend less money since we switched to this food (we used to feed Iams).
  8. My family switched to a mostly gluten-free Thanksgiving and hardly noticed. I made cornbread stuffing (using Bob Red Mills gluten-free cornbread mix) and we made the gravy with cornstarch instead of flour. Most of the side dishes my family eats are veggies without gluten anyway and we just modified the green bean casserole. I brought my own pie and didn...
  9. My daughter was FTT too. It really is just the medical term to say they're not gaining enough weight. That's all it means. It doesn't mean that she's behind or anything. My daughter quickly went back up the charts once we found out that celiac disease was the problem. I know it is hard to hear but it really isn't as bad as it sounds.
  10. Thanks for your input! The hayride is for a birthday but I'll try to find out the name and number of the farm.
  11. I'd love some input! Is it safe for a 4 y/o to do a painting craft with an empty Pringles can? What do you think of hay rides for young kids? Too risky because of CC or just good fun if you wash up afterward? Thanks!
  12. From what I've heard, the blood test at that age isn't reliable because it often results in a false negative. At this point, I'd try going strictly gluten free for a trial period or talk to your doctor about a colonoscopy. I hope you find some answers and that your daughter feels better soon.
  13. I'm so frustrated with DD's preschool. I just want to cry. They keep taking risks with gluten. I've had conferences with them. I've given them all the information. This is our second year with the same teacher in the same classroom (3 year old and 4 year old preschool). And they still don't get it and my daughter is still being put at risk. ...
  14. EnerG pretzels come in small packets and you can buy travel size peanut butters to dip the pretzels. Envirokids cereal bars are good (my kids like the Panda ones the best). Fruit (apples, bananas, and raisins all travel well). Rice chex and shelf stable milk (like the Horizons milk boxes) make a good breakfast. I mostly don't trust fast food places...
  15. Wonderful! And the eating like crazy thing tapers off eventually!
  16. Stay on gluten until the testing is done. Then even if the results are negative, I'd try the diet anyway (as previous posters stated the rate of false negs is high for little kids). As for potty training, my daughter completely self trained just a few days into the diet. We struggled with pting but when we got her diagnosis, completely gave up until...
  17. I just keep lots of gluten-free treats on me at all times. I keep snack sized M&Ms in my purse, Envirokids bars in my car, and Pamela's cupcakes in my freezer. Sometimes I'll one-up the gluten treat by providing an even better gluten-free treat (like if everyone is eating a plain donut, I try to bring a gluten-free frosted, sprinkle donut). And...
  18. Wishing you the best luck!
  19. Rice Chex is our favorite (with a little cinnamon and sugar) For special occasions, we like Fruity Pebbles and Dora Stars. The gluten-free EnviroKids cereals are pretty good too but are pricey.
  20. Just tell your husband that you want grandma to be grandma not the daycare lady. I think you'll all benefit from that. You need a daycare person that respects your boundaries or you're not going to feel comfortable all day. A good book: Toxic Inlaws by Susan Forward.
  21. I don't know if it has petroleum or not but I really like the Burts Bees tinted lip gloss. I know they're gluten-free.
  22. I'm also a lazy 31 year old so I have lots of tips for you! Amy's Kitchen makes lots of good gluten-free frozen meals that are clearly labeled gluten-free on the front of the box. Just microwave and you're good. Thai Kitchen makes noodle dishes (like ramen) that are labeled gluten-free. Just add hot water. Ians gluten-free chicken nuggets...
  23. At her age, I'd be concerned that she might not be able to tell what is gluten-free and what isn't. I'd send her with food instead of allowing her to buy stuff.
  24. Wonderful! That sounds just like my daughter's recovery. And she just keeps getting better.
  25. Hang in there. It is a huge thing to hear but so very manageable. If you like to read, I seriously suggest picking up Dana Korn's Kids with Celiac Disease : A Family Guide to Raising Happy, Healthy, Gluten-Free Children. There are really great gluten-free substitutes for all those foods you mentioned. It takes a couple of months to figure all...
