ARCHIVED Introducing Myself, After 4 Years Of Fighting, I Can Now Say
dandelionmom replied to Breila's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm not really sure how to work through it. I'm still pretty pissed at times that it took two years to diagnose my daughter (and don't even get me started on the 30 years it took for me!). It helps me to feel like I'm doing something to help so I'm working in my own way at spreading awareness so other people might not have to wait years for a diagnosis... -
ARCHIVED Living With A Celiac Child
dandelionmom replied to jstoy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I found out I have Celiac Disease when a lifetime of gastro problems (and assorted other issues) went away when I went gluten-free to support my daughter when she was diagnosed with celiac disease. Gluten-free is a lot easier when the two of us are doing it together and she really likes it that we are "gluten-free girls" together. I'm not crazy about... -

ARCHIVED Any Vegan Or Vegaterians
dandelionmom replied to Nic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We're mostly vegetarian (I am but the kids have a little meat, sometimes). We do lots of beans, cheese, lentils, and eggs. I don't know about the supplement drinks, sorry! Here's some of our softer, protein-rich favorites: Progresso Lentil Soup corn tortillas with lettuce, cheese, salsa, and refried beans brown rice with pinto or black beans and... -
ARCHIVED Looking For Some Good Fats
dandelionmom replied to feedmykids's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Avacado, other nuts, soy?, healthy oils (like olive oil), olives Maybe aim to keep her meals really calorie dense? We find that our skinny-minny does best with 5 or 6 smaller meals through out the day instead of fewer/bigger ones. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Treat The Sympotms When Glutened?
dandelionmom replied to okgrace's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Pedialyte and bland foods. Mint tea seems to help and my daughter likes it if I let her drop a sugar cube into her cup. -
ARCHIVED Home From School, Again
dandelionmom replied to OBXMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter is only in preschool so I'm not sure what we'll do at that age. But right now she's doing really well in school so if she gets glutened, I keep her home. She gets so foggy and emotional and has such violent gastro symptoms there's no way she'd be able to be productive in school. I'd rather she be home getting snuggled and keeping hydrated. -
My daughter had a cheese burger-no-bun and fries-no-seasoning and did fine. I was assured the nachos were okay but I got quite sick. Next time I'm just getting the fries, they were good even without the seasoning.

ARCHIVED Totally Frustrated
dandelionmom replied to Aleshia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ugh. It is so hard to find a good doctor! I went through two pediatricians before finding one that I liked and respected and even she kept telling me my daughter was fine because she was big. It took me insisting on a consultation to get her to realize that yes something indeed was wrong. Amazingly enough, she was the one who thought of celiac disease... -
ARCHIVED Noodle Crafts At Preschool.
dandelionmom replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She does not completely understand yet. She knows not to eat anything but her own food and will tell you that she needs to "be gluten-free" but that's as far as she understands. -
ARCHIVED Noodle Crafts At Preschool.
dandelionmom posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm not sure what to do. When my daughter started preschool I talked to her teacher about gluten art projects and offered to provide gluten-free substitutes for any projects. At the holidays, a noodle necklace came home and I sent the teacher an email asking them to exclude her from noodle crafts and reminded them of my offer to bring in gluten-free substitutes... -

ARCHIVED Wheat In Cat Food!
dandelionmom replied to Celiaction's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My cats eat California Natural. It is a very high quality food (human grade ingredients) and doesn't contain wheat. -
ARCHIVED Success Stories?
dandelionmom replied to OBXMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My little girl has been gluten-free since July and she's like a new child. In just a couple of weeks of the diet there were no more tantrums, she had normal b.m.s, she was happier than she'd ever been, there was no more "stomach flu," and she was fully potty-trained. Since diagnosis, she's grown 3 clothing sizes and has become the most engaging, easy going... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Have A Bunny Rabbit?
dandelionmom posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm trying to find out if there is such a thing as gluten-free bunny pellets. Thanks for your help and for not laughing at me! -
ARCHIVED Food Allergies And Celiac
dandelionmom replied to roxie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had been lactose intolerant for 5 years and after 6 months of being gluten-free I added dairy back in a little at a time and found I can tolerate it just fine. I'm having a lot of fun eating cheese and ice cream again. I haven't gotten brave enough to have a whole glass of milk though! I think a lot of those foods you listed can be hard to digest... -
ARCHIVED Eating Out With Kids...gluten Foods At The Same Table
dandelionmom replied to stolly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Since I have celiac disease too, I just take charge of that daughter's plate. But when I eat out alone with my girls and I have to help with one of the gluten plates, I just try to prep it as well as possible, then wipe my hands really really really well on a few baby wipes. It helps to try to order something they won't need much help with and something... -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten-free On-the-go With Kids?
dandelionmom replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Cheri A don't be offended! It is so hard to read tone on a message board, I'm sure they were just being silly. Some families have a lifestyle where if they don't eat in the car, their baby won't get lunch. That's our situation on Wednesdays (we leave right when she wakes up from her nap at 11:30 and we have a variety of drop off and pick ups until... -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten-free On-the-go With Kids?
dandelionmom replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for the great tips! I think a lot of those ideas will work better when they're a little bigger (they're 18 months, 4, and 7 now). I wish we didn't have to eat on-the-go so much but it seems like a necessity right now. I picked up some boxes of the envirokids bars just for the car and so far so good. The kids like them and they aren't as spill-able... -
ARCHIVED So Frustrated!
dandelionmom replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Head Start is a great program but they aren't very helpful when it comes to the kinds of special situations our kids need. Look into some other preschools (ours is only a couple of mornings a week so there's no lunch to worry about and they're really good about managing her snack most of the time and they were fine with me sending in gluten-free playdoh... -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten-free On-the-go With Kids?
dandelionmom posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My car is getting pretty gross from messy kids snacking in it. We're on the go so often with 3 little ones and I'm never comfortable running into a restaurant because of gluten and cc concerns. So we end up snacking in the car. We need to find a way to either keep it neater in there or a way to snack on-the-go but not in the car. Any thoughts? -

ARCHIVED Food Phobias?

The first poster has some great advice! I just wanted to say that you're not alone struggling with this. We're just focussing on getting healthy, safe foods into her and we're hoping she'll outgrow the pickiness. She has to some extent already and has added to her list of okay foods. We're just trying to stay patient and not put food stress on her...
