  1. We sorted out her candy and replaced anything with gluten (and anything we weren't sure of) with her favorite candies (dum dums and skittles) that we let her pick out before the holiday. The ROCK safe candy list helped a lot. I don't know if this year's is done yet but here is a link to last year's list: Open Original Shared Link Something we learned...
  2. My daughter had the mini cheeseburgers without buns and the one we were at had a dedicated fryer for the fries. My husband called ahead and they were very accommodating.
  3. We finally went today and it was so nice! My little girls shared a pizza, my older daughter had the lemon chicken, I had the eggplant parmigana (if you're a vegetarian you have to ask for it without the meat sauce), my husband had the chicken kabobs, and we got dessert to go! It was really really delicious. And such a nice environment! It was fabulous...
  4. We haven't had a problem with Fruity Pebbles or Chex.
  5. We went about a month ago and had a very good experience. If you're going with kids, find out if they bring dough to the table for the kids to play with. I didn't know they did this and nearly yelled at the waitress to get the plate full of dough and flour away from my daughter. In hindsight, that might have been a bit of an overreaction.
  6. My daughter grew two clothing sizes in 8-9 months. She's now the tallest child in her class (not surprising since her parents are taller than average). She grew so fast sometimes that she would complain of leg pain that her pediatrician said were growing pains.
  7. Not exactly like that but my 4 year old gets very anxious when she's been glutened. I think anxiety is similar to depression. And before she was diagnosed she had a lot of anxiety, was very emotional, and seemed almost like she had OCD. Your description almost made me cry. Poor little guy.
  8. Consider buying the book Eating Gluten-free With Emily. My 4 year old loves that book. It has been her favorite book for over a year now.
  9. It does depend on a lot of variables. My 3.5 year old was significantly better within a month, was able to digest dairy after about two months, and grew two clothing sizes in 8 months. She's been gluten-free for about a year now and is totally better unless she gets accidentally glutened.
  10. I think that would go well in our school auction. I know of a school employee and a few families that are gluten-free in our elementary school. Our Whole Foods had a gluten-free gift basket recently and even though it was overpriced and not for a good cause I thought about buying it!
  11. Why do schools think our kids need more junk food to learn?! Argh! Any gluten-free cookie instead of graham cracker (maybe ginger snaps) M&Ms should be okay, right? Are Hershey kisses okay? Jelly Bellys are gluten-free no idea what to use for the licorice maybe a fruit snack type product? Pillsbury vanilla frosting is okay Welch's Grape Jelly...
  12. On the advice of our GI we kept our daughter off of milk for a few months when she first went gluten-free. After a few months, we reintroduced milk with no problem. Whole milk is actually better (less lactose) than skim if you're having trouble digesting milk.
  13. The previous poster had great recommendations. -I haven't tried gluten-free Cucinas yet but it sounds great Open Original Shared Link -I highly recommend Celiac Specialties, their stuff is fabulous Open Original Shared Link -I don't know how far Holiday Market in Royal Oak is for you but it is my favorite grocery store www.holiday-market.com/
  14. I'm a gluten-free vegetarian too. It can be a challenge at times but it works. My "go to" snacks are chips and fresh salsa or baby carrots with hummus.
  15. Keeping you in my thoughts! Stay safe!
  16. After you encourage your family to get tested there's nothing else you can do. It can be frustrating but hopefully they'll come around in time. Our rule is anyone who doesn't take celiac disease seriously will never be alone with our child. I know that sounds harsh but we're more concerned about keeping our daughter healthy.
  17. That all sounds really good! It also helps to send in a treat bag full of safe treats (we use bags of M&Ms) for when there are unexpected gluteny treats, like birthday treats.
  18. I found a super huge bottle from Costco that says "gluten-free" right on the label. I like the kids' chewable ones since the adult ones aren't vegetarian.
  19. When my daughter was diagnosed, I was ecstatic. They were running all sorts of scary tests including ones for pediatric cancers. I think my exact words were, "Is that all?! Thank God!" Then when I found out that I had celiac disease I think my exact words included several choice phrases that would not be polite to type! Then I got kind of angry (at all...
  20. I bet the teacher is going to want to talk to you. In my limited experience, the teachers really wanted to hear from me what they could do to help keep my daughter safe and healthy. I printed off info for them and went through it all with them. I also gave them my phone number and email and told them to please contact me at any time for any reason. I...
  21. I bought the baby food prunes and told my daughter it was "prune sauce" and she gobbled it up. It works fast!
  22. We've been okay with the Kraft marshmallows (but haven't had them in a little while). We eat Jennie O Scooby Turkey hot dogs (they say gluten-free on the package).
  23. Hi! I have a 4 year old with celiac disease too. My daughter got sick twice from noodle crafts at school so I finally sent in a big box of assorted gluten-free noodles. We bought a big tub of gluten-free playdoh to send in to preschool (the whole class uses it to avoid cross contamination). Don't worry, the overwhelmed feeling gets better...
  24. I pretty much leave it up to my daughter. If she feels like she can make it at school, I send her. We're still only dealing with half day preschool though. I'm not sure how we'll handle a full day. She missed a lot last year but it was our first year on the diet so I'm hoping she'll feel better this year.
  25. It is nice to be a little dressed up so either outfit you mentioned would be fine. A good gift from a godparent is a bible engraved with the baby's name and a savings bond.
