  1. Can you bring your own food and disposable dishes? That's pretty much what we do. And instead of eating out with everyone, we offer to meet after the meal for drinks or something fun like a movie or bowling.
  2. We're almost totally gluten-free. My oldest daughter and husband occasionally like to have "real" pizza and in that case, it is only allowed on the "gluten side" of the kitchen table. That's all the gluten we have any more. There were too many accidental glutenings before and it just isn't worth it.
  3. I ate honey like it was going out of style while breastfeeding all 3 of my kids. My OB and pediatricians all said it was fine.
  4. I was severely lactose intolerant (couldn't even eat it with lactaid) for years before going gluten-free. Two months of the diet and I tried dairy with no problems.
  5. My 4 year old with celiac disease has complained of stomach pain and has had diarrhea for two days. But she hasn't had anything new and I double checked everything in the house and I'm not sick (I also have celiac disease). Our toddler also has been vomiting and having diarrhea (we don't think she has celiac but can't be sure yet). So I'd like to stop...
  6. We've found Redbridge and Dragon's Bard at Whole Foods in the beer coolers.
  7. I can't wait to try it! We were supposed to go last night but one of the kiddos got sick so we had to cancel our sitter. We're going to go next week and I'll let everyone know how it goes!
  8. Hi Angie! I hope you find answers soon. I'm not a medical professional at all but it does sound like she's suffering from some sort of food allergy or intolerance. Somethings you can try: a food journal (write down what she eats and when she has reactions), an elimination diet (google this or ask your pediatrician for advice), RAST testing (a blood test...
  9. Thanks for posting this! I'm frequently in Toledo for work and will definitely check this out! Where is it?
  10. My daughter has celiac disease (positive blood work) but the allergy tests came back saying that she isn't allergic to anything. My daughter was thin with a round belly. It wasn't overly large but compared to how thin the rest of her was, it was large. And it wasn't noticeable until she'd been exhibiting symptoms for quite a while. And if...
  11. I cut and pasted info from this site Open Original Shared Link into a packet for my DD's preschool. I requested a meeting with the teacher and director before school started to go over it all and to find out what things would be a appropriate for me to send (for snacks and alternative art supplies). For my daughter's preschool, I sent: big bag of glutino...
  12. I ate the same way (gluteny) while nursing all of my kids and only one of the three has celiac disease. She actually exhibited few symptoms before she weaned at 15 months. I was also undiagnosed with my pregnancies and was so super sick. And yeah, I'm sure those crackers really helped!
  13. The school was fine with me supplying an alternative and they use it for the whole class. I think it was from discount school supply or something like that. It was a really big bucket.
  14. She's such a little baby that you might be expecting too much from her at night. At 8 weeks, most puppies still need to be brought out every few hours (and maybe fed). She'll outgrow this really soon but right now it is necessary. Good luck with her! I foster chihuahuas and just love them! They can be hard to potty train though so you need to be really...
  15. Hi! Another Michigander here (metro Detroit but used to live in GR). I could hardly believe all the conditions that cleared up when I went gluten-free (acne, wrist pain, back pain, headaches, insomnia, plus all the digestive issues).
  16. Open Original Shared Link is in Sterling Heights. There's a PF Changs in Somerset mall (very close to Birmingham) that I've had good luck at. www.sweetlorraines.com/ has a few locations and they have a pretty good gluten-free menu.
  17. It sounds to me like there's another food intolerance showing up. I'd cut out all dairy to see if that's the culprit. Both my daughter and I had to go entirely dairy-free for a couple of months after diagnosis.
  18. I would push for testing for her (either blood tests or a biopsy of her rash). Her behavioral symptoms and her lack of growth sound exactly like my daughter before diagnosis.
  19. I use Burt's Bees lip shimmers. I use them because they're gluten-free. I used to just randomly pick up tinted glosses from the drug store.

  21. I completely sympathize and I'm sure that I'll be going through something similar when my daughter is old enough to rebel! Honestly though, at her age, it is up to her what she eats (your other daughter too) and there's nothing you can do. Now that you've told them the info (and you provide them with safe food at your house), you've done the best...
  22. Oh my! I am beyond excited! Thank you for posting!
  23. I tried to edit my reply with some more info but it wouldn't let me, so here goes: For good restaurants, I've had good luck with PF Changs in Somerset, several area Outbacks, and Sweet Lorraines. They all have gluten-free menus and the wait staff was good with my explanation of cross contamination. The best grocery store I've found is Holiday Market...
  24. I like the Idiots Guide book a lot too. It was the first gluten-free book I read and I refer to it often. If you want gluten-free beer in a bar, go to Amicis in Berkley. They have Redbridge. They also have a gluten-free pizza but I got sick when I ate it so they must not be as careful with cc as I asked them to be. It was delicious though!
  25. Art supplies must be checked The entire kitchen needs a thorough scrub even things they may not think of like the sugar bowl Pet food (if applicable) must be checked Grandma's make-up (especially hand lotion and lipstick)
