  1. Just comparing the two breads (one gluten-free and one not): in the gluten-free bread, there's more sugar, iron, vitamin a in the wheat bread, there's more calcium they have the same amount of fiber and protein
  2. My anxiety is better. I don't have depression though.
  3. I found out I had Celiac only after my daughter's diagnosis. I know all about the mommy-guilt but you can't let it get you down. It is not productive or helpful to you or your son. I'm positive that your son would choose celiac over not being alive and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want you to feel responsible for this.
  4. My daughter had a tea party for her 4th birthday party today and it went really well! The whole event was gluten-free and everyone seemed to like the food! We had quiches, tea sandwiches, cookies, cupcakes, chocolate dipped pretzels, fruit kabobs, salads, and tea (of course!). I wish we hadn't been in the middle of a snow storm though! But we had...
  5. Yes, it is gluten-free. It is a lot of fun but pretty messy!
  6. My daughter and I both got omelets and were fine. We spent a long time explaining about cc to the waitress and she was really cool about it They gave us fruit instead of toast. The omelets were great.
  7. Your son's symptoms sound very similar to my daughter's. I had never heard of Celiac and was surprised when the pediatrician requested the celiac panel along with the other blood tests they were running. Definitely keep him eating what he normally eats if you want to have testing done. My daughter was irritable (we called it "the terrible 3s")...
  8. I just said a prayer for her. Is there a way to pay a little extra to extend her insurance coverage?
  9. It is only an issue because of the "so how'd you like my super-gluten cookie basket" questions. We'll just pass anything on to my husband's office and hope people don't ask! I love Darn210's response in case anyone asks those tough questions!
  10. May I ask where you are located? I am in Seattle, desperately searching for daycare or preschool for my son. We have had terrible luck getting him into a gluten-safe environment!

  11. That is brilliant! We'll do that one for sure!!!
  12. How do you handle a gorgeous gift of gluten-y holiday treats?
  13. I hope it is normal because I've been doing the same thing! I'm mourning convenient take-out and delivery.
  14. I am so sorry for your loss.
  15. On crazy mornings, I just grab an envirokid cereal bar and a banana. Usually I'll make an egg or I'll have reheated leftover pancakes (we make extras on weekends!).
  16. For upcoming holiday parties and get-togethers, I plan on packing gluten-free food for my daughter and me. Is it best to tell the host in advance that we'll bring our own food or is it better to just nonchalantly eat our own food? I'm concerned that if I don't tell them in advance they may go to extra trouble preparing something they think is gluten-free...
  17. That sounds like abuse to me. I have this page bookmarked, it might be helpful. Open Original Shared Link
  18. I was thinking of making a yummy cheese fondue but obviously won't be dipping french bread in it! Got any ideas that would be just as good? Veggies sound healthy but not as much fun. And some of us are vegetarians.
  19. I'm Irish, Polish, NA, french Canadian, and English.
  20. We've pretty much gone breadless. I keep a loaf of kinnick (or however you spell that!) in the fridge in case anyone one needs toast (if you toast it for a long time and put lots of butter and jam on it it is okay!) but we rarely eat it. My daughter misses hot dog buns so I'm thinking of wrapping her hot dog in a gluten-free pancake. I'll let you know...
  21. What about smashed cauliflower in place of mashed potatoes. Open Original Shared Link We're serving soups and appetizers instead of Christmas eve dinner this year. Everyone is bringing their favorites. I'm bringing spicy black bean soup, white chili, hummus with veggies, and artichoke dip with corn chips.
  22. I would seriously consider doing two things: cutting out all dairy keeping a food journal (in which you record everything she ate along with when she felt sick) If you notice any trends in the journal (ie every time she eats corn she feels badly) then try cutting out the foods that correspond with symptoms. If you don't notice any trends in the...
  23. My daughter's vomiting and diarrhea were sporadic before her diagnosis of Celiac. We just thought she was getting the stomach flu a lot until we realized that no one else was getting it. I hope you find some answers and that your daughter feels better soon. I think it might be a good idea to request the allergy blood test and the Celiac panel.
  24. Thanks for posting this! We're going to have to make a trip now!
  25. My daughter is tall anyway for her age but shortly after going gluten-free she shot up a couple of inches and filled out (she's still thinner than anyone else in her classes though). 3 months after going gluten-free we had to buy all new clothes in the next size.
