  1. Celiac is not the same thing as an allergy. Julia came back with a ridiculously high positive on the celiac panel but is not allergic to anything. Keep them off gluten. A positive dietary response is the best proof out there. You know how to make your girls better, you're their mom!
  2. I'm sorry. It is so hard. The wait for a scope is one of the reasons we opted not to have it done. My little girl was just way too sick.
  3. My daughter does but I've always heard kids heal faster. We did cut out all dairy for a long time and reintroduced it slowly. Is it possible that you may have some food allergies or intolerances along with the celiac? Allergy testing and/or a food journal may help you figure out if there could be other foods making you sick. Hope you're feeling...
  4. My 3 year old's blood work was accurate. She had the Celiac Panel and had it come back highly positive. I hope you find answers soon!
  5. I've heard between 6 and 9 months. I've also heard that continuing to breastfeed through out the first year (or longer) and especially while introducing gluten can help lessen the incidence of celiac disease.
  6. Since my daughter's official diagnosis, I consider myself self-diagnosed. It is actually a bit easier having two of us in the house: Julia has a built-in gluten-free buddy, I feel better than I ever have, and I can eat dairy again (I've had "IBS" and have been severely lactose intolerant and anemic for YEARS). We can vent to each other about missing garlic...
  7. My youngest was "too young" for the Celiac test when my other daughter was diagnosed. She's now 15 months old. Does that sound old enough for a reliable test? She doesn't have the symptoms my other daughter does but she never has solid bms and she's pretty fussy and not a good sleeper. So I'm worried (what else is new?!).
  8. I love Pamela's chocolate cake mix; the cupcakes I make out of it are delicious.
  9. It is pricey. One thing that helps is to search these boards before buying a new product so that you can find out if it is awful or not before spending the money. Another thing is to try eating more naturally Gluten-free foods instead of the replacements.
  10. Thanks everyone! It is nice to know that I'm not the only one with these worries and the encouraging stories are so good to hear! My husband is fabulous and so supportive but he tends to laugh at me a little when I get going with my crazy worries.
  11. I've never heard the potato bag thing! Crap! Instead of margarine, can you use olive oil? I prefer it in most instances anyway even though I can eat butter.
  12. I couldn't sleep last night because I was worried about how Julia would keep healthy when she goes off to college. That is 15 years away! What is wrong with me?!
  13. I've always had tummy trouble from drinking coffee (I think it is the acidity) until I started drinking cold brew coffee. It is really easy to make, tastes a lot better than regular coffee, and doesn't upset my stomach.
  14. Honestly, I'm going to be the bad one this year. My daughter's safety is coming first. Since I already know the in-laws won't respect her diet (they've already had temper tantrums when she was healing and was still off dairy "ice cream doesn't have wheat in it!") we will be eating before joining them to celebrate the holidays and if there's any issues at...
  15. It sounds like meats, fruits, rice, and most veggies are fine which is great! I think I'd stick with a whole food diet. Processed foods seem easier but once you get used to cooking with whole foods, I bet you'll find the whole family likes them better! The hard thing is going to be snack foods. For a lot of snacks, you can serve fruits and veggies...
  16. I've been tempted but I think that if I actually tried to eat gluten I wouldn't be able to actually go through with it.
  17. We've eaten at Wendy's without incident quite a few times. I tell them that my daughter has a "wheat allergy" (easier to explain!) and ask them to please be sure that her food doesn't touch any wheat and that they change their gloves before touching her food. You can usually see right into their kitchen and watch them prepare it. She eats a cheese burger...
  18. I often use corn starch as a thickener instead of flour, I wonder if that would work for your steak? We eat mostly vegetarian so I'm not good at meat dishes! This week we're having: -tacos with gluten free seasoning and corn tortillas -baked potato bar with cheese, sour cream, broccoli, bacon, cubed grilled chicken, chili, etc (a great way to get...
  19. For pizza, we like the Amy's frozen rice crust pizzas. About halfway through the cooking time, we add a lot more cheese and any other toppings we like.
  20. We noticed some improvement pretty quickly but I think the belly took at least a month to look all better. We've been gluten-free since July and we still are noticing improvement; healing takes a little while. Have you cut out dairy too? If not, you may want to consider doing that to give him a chance to heal.
  21. We had a great Halloween! The girls were a black cat, a bunny, and a Carebear. They were adorable! They went trick or treating for almost two hours! The parties were good. I'm roommom for one class and assistant roommom for the other so I'm really partied out! But the kids had fun (and stayed gluten-free!).
  22. What were your costumes? Did you trick or treat? How'd the school parties go?
  23. I didn't believe it either at first. I thought it was too extreme. Until I made my baby sick with a stupid wooden spatula. She's a total creature of habit and has to eat the same things for every meal so there were no other variables. The day I used the wooden spatula for her eggs is the day she got sick.
  24. That's really clever; I have to try that! If you're in a pinch we've discovered that we love the frozen Amy's Rice Crust Pizzas. About halfway through the baking time, we add extra cheese and any toppings we want.
  25. Oh, I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'll bet it is some sort of denial. Moms never want anything to be "wrong" with their "little girls."
