  1. Poor baby. Those situations just kill me. I've started keeping a FULL SIZED bag of M&Ms in my purse at all times to hand her when we have to turn down a treat. People who know me are shocked that I do that because pre-diagnosis I would NEVER let my girls eat that much candy. But I want her to have something way better than whatever we have to...
  2. One of my daughters and I both are gluten-free so the house is mostly gluten-free. I have prepackaged gluten snacks and gluten bread for my husband's and eldest daughter's lunches. I make the sandwiches so I know I'm keeping the crumbs contained and cleaning well afterward. My husband is always surprised that dinner was gluten-free. No one seems to miss...
  3. A taco bar (with seasoned beef, refried beans, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, cheese, fresh salsa, sour cream, guacamole, etc) sounds like lots of fun! It is also nice for people who may have food allergies (vegetarians and picky eaters too!). For side dishes you can have spanish rice and chips with salsa. Pamela's cake mix makes wonderful cupcakes. You...
  4. Eczema can also flare up when the child is under stress (it doesn't just mean allergies), I think that's why my daughter's eczema has totally cleared up now that she's gluten-free.
  5. Thanks Sharon! You saved us time and money!
  6. 1. You'll save money on gluten-free replacements by asking here about which brands are good! Some of the stuff out there is delicious and I'm sure someone here can tell you which ones are. 2. It seems so hard in the beginning but very soon you'll look back and wonder why it seemed so overwhelming at first. 3. Don't be afraid to insist on safe food...
  7. We're in our 3rd month of living gluten-free and we've seen so many big changes! But last night's was a real eye opener. Our 3 year old actually ate her dinner and asked for seconds and then thirds. Afterward, she said that her tummy felt funny. I got worried about CC from prepackaged food (we were eating Amy's gluten free pizza for the first time) but...
  8. Hi! This board has been a lifesaver for me! My 3 year old was diagnosed this summer after being a pretty sick kid for about a year. Where do you order Kinnikinnick from? We are so lucky to have a lot of stores with pretty good gluten-free selections but none carry Kinnikinnick!
  9. Update: She seemed fine for school today. We ended up not doing the carpool anyway because the other mom cancelled.
  10. I know I'll probably have to wait and see how she's doing in the morning but it would be nice to forewarn the carpool if I can't drive tomorrow. If your child is having a gluten reaction all afternoon and evening, are they okay for school the next day or do you usually keep them home? Just looking for other's experiences!
  11. Thanks for the suggestions! Sorry I didn't know this had been asked before or that it was controversial! I'll be more careful about what I post!
  12. Background: My daughter was diagnosed this summer. After I started following the diet along with her, I've found my "stomach problems" have gone away entirely (even my severe lactose intolerance). Anyway, I've been skipping Communion until this week when I took it at my Gramma's funeral mass. I seemed to be okay after it. And it got me wondering if...
  13. My daughter has celiac and was anemic but responded to the iron even before being gluten-free. I hope you find some answers soon!
  14. My one year old's favorite lunches (that I think fit into your guidelines!): beans and rice (black beans or baked beans are her favorites) steamed veggies (she likes cheese on hers but you could use olive oil) pancakes (assuming you can find a safe mix!) glutino pretzels with hummus you could make up your own version of a lunchable with glutino or...
  15. Yes! She was particularly impatient and irritable around my in-laws and at all extended family gatherings. She's doing so much better now. So many people have approached me about how nice it is to have the "real Julia." I'd never heard of celiac until my daughter's diagnosis. We have no family history of it. But, knowing what I know now,...
  16. My 3 y/o daughter had a huge attitude shift when we went gluten-free. She used to be sooooo irritable and had some OCD tendencies that were starting to really worry me. All that went away since her diagnosis. She's so sweet now! She tries new foods! She doesn't freak out (much) if someone sits in her favorite seat. I'm glad you're finding answers...
  17. I have the same problem. I have to go to 2 or 3 stores to get everything. That is not easy to do with 3 little ones!
  18. I am so sorry to hear that! How frustrating. I'm already planning for our Thanksgiving and a gluten-free table sounds like a great idea!
  19. I hope you feel better soon. I've glutened my daughter and have felt horrible for it (ordered her ice cream without thinking about cc from the scoop). If I could have, I would have suffered for her. It is all a learning experience and I bet your mom will ALWAYS double check everything now.
  20. I haven't been able to find gluten-free TVP. What brand are you using? I'd love to try it.
  21. The pediatric GI told us that in my daughter's case, the endoscopy would only confirm her diagnosis so we opted not to have it done. Her very high blood work results and the amazing response to the diet were enough for us. The few accidental glutenings we've experienced have further cemented the diagnosis. I'm glad she didn't have to go through that procedure...
  22. I buy it at Target. Be prepared though for a big mess! It is a lot of fun but it isn't really that much like playdoh.
  23. From Dallas ROCK ~ this lists snacks and art supplies. Open Original Shared Link
  24. My girls love Moonsand. Be prepared though, it makes quite the mess!
  25. I'm about as obsessive as you. I check and double check everything. I try to stick with mostly whole foods or things that are clearly labeled gluten-free. I get really anxious about CC (especially since our household isn't totally gluten-free). I'm glad to come to this board because it reassures me that I'm not as crazy-paranoid as some family...
