  1. I doubted it could make a difference until I got pretty sick from using our toaster. I thought I had it wiped out enough but I didn't.
  2. I work in the wedding business and have seen several small, intimate family weddings that have been amazing! I bet you'll always be glad you had the wedding of your choice. The thing is to think of what details are most important to you and make sure not to compromise those things. So if having your dad and grandpa walk you down the aisle is important...
  3. It is hard sometimes but it is so worth it. I had no idea how much my "stomach problems" affected my life until I started to heal. Hang in there. You can eat with your family and friends; it just takes a little time to figure out how. But once you know what you're doing, it isn't that bad.
  4. Just wanted to celebrate with people who will get how exciting this was! My daughter's preschool had a celebration today with donuts and her teacher went out of her way to get gluten-free donuts from Celiac Specialties (a gluten-free bakery in our area)! You should have seen her face when she got to choose which type of donut she wanted (plain or...
  5. 5'11. I love being tall.
  6. I like the Pamela's Chocolate cake mix. It is fabulous. I'm not sure if it has other allergens in it or not but it is worth checking out!
  7. I'm making -baked meringues (Open Original Shared Link) -peanut butter cookies with hershey kisses (Open Original Shared Link)
  8. Thanks for posting this! I'm so glad to hear it went well. I'm planning a gluten-free birthday for my soon to be 4 year old. I want her to be able to have EVERYTHING at her party (even though she and I are the only ones with Celiac)!
  9. I've been encouraging most of my family (and even some friends!) to get tested. They all think I'm a little crazy.
  10. My sister overnighted Dana Korn's book (Kids with Celiac Disease : A Family Guide to Raising Happy, Healthy, Gluten-Free Children) to me and I swear there was nothing more helpful than that!
  11. Rest and hydration are all that work for me.
  12. Hmm, how about supplying the class with a really huge amount of pretzel sticks and giving your son a big bag of the glutino pretzel sticks. Then his snack would look just like everyone elses.
  13. So far the best thing for us has been to give our daughter a better snack than everyone else. She's 3 though so I'm not sure if that works anymore when they're in the third grade!
  14. That is great! I had the same situation you had the first time around. Maybe I'll consider looking at a new doctor too.
  15. Julia wants a tea party for her fourth birthday! I want the whole thing to be gluten-free without costing an arm and a leg and without being a ton of work (it is the week before Christmas!) and it needs to be magical, of course! Can this be done? I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas!
  16. Happy Thanksgiving to you too! You are not the only crazy, over protective mom here; I am one too! The idea of a potluck makes me want to cry! My DD will have a "safe snack box" with her where ever we go through all the holidays and we've adopted a "when in doubt don't eat it" policy. I'm the most worried about meals with my ILs so we're eating...
  17. Something I ate yesterday must have gluten in it (or I'm dying!). I noticed that the Amy's frozen meal that I ate said "no gluten ingredients" on the front instead of saying "gluten-free" like the other ones I bought. Could that have been the problem? I feel so awful!
  18. Welcome! This forum is so very helpful! I'd be lost without it! I'm eager to hear how your son responds to the diet. Best wishes!
  19. Thanks! The popcorn was fine! And she had a great time at the game!
  20. 12 is a tough age! I wonder if she may need some stricter boundaries. What makes me think that is when you said that she was told what she ate out of the house was her business! My daughters (although much younger) are expected to respect our family rules in or out of the house, even when I'm not around. If it helps at all, when I was 12, I would...
  21. Looking for a gluten-free treat my daughter can have at the college football game with daddy!
  22. I've encouraged all of my family members to get tested ever since my daughter's diagnosis. We've all got a crazy history of "stomach problems." So far, it looks like only two people have taken me seriously and the others just roll their eyes. I'm hoping that each family member who gets a diagnosis will encourage a couple other family members to get tested...
  23. Glad to read this thread! I was worried that I was losing my mind a little. The green is pretty but this new format is harder to read.
  24. (((hugs))) None of this is your fault. Blame genetics, your great grandparent, or whomever but don't blame yourself because you are obviously doing your best to keep your kids well. I hate that Julia has this but she's fine with it.
