ARCHIVED Asperger's And Gluten Intollerance (but Not Celiac?)
Queen Serenity replied to imagine22's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi all, I'm very glad to see a post like this one. I had no idea that the two were even remotely related. I have had celiac's for over 11 years now. My son, who is going to be twelve tomorrow, was just recently diagnosed with Asperger's. I was carrying him when I started to become ill. It wasn't until he was 9 months old that I was diagnosed. Who should... -
Put me down on the "mono" train too! I had it when I was seventeen. However, My Celiac's did not rear it's ugly head until the birth of my second child, when I was 28. My theory on the "mono" thing is this...I think doctor's could not explain the illness, so they just said it was mono. I believe it was Celiac's showing itself, and it just wasn't recognized...

ARCHIVED I Want To Scream And Have A Meltdown!
Queen Serenity replied to Turtle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Turtle, Does your best friend know how serious your allergy to food can be? Is she living in denial right now? How can she be your best friend, and not understand anything about Celiac's? As for the stress of a wedding, that's just an excuse not to care about your health. As far as I can tell, she really is not your best friend, if she can't accept that... -
ARCHIVED I Cheated And Nothing Happened!
Queen Serenity replied to DingoGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Please tell me that this is your last hoorah with gluten! Eventhough you had no visible reaction, you have just taken out some of your poor, liitle, defenseless villi. Seriously though, you shouldn't play roulette with Celiac's. It can result in a lot of damage over time. I know it's tempting, and difficult, but you just have to do it. If I can do... -
Rez, I'm glad that you are feeling better about this issue. If you want your family to truly understand Celiac's, then get them to read the posts on the board. Tell them that it will help them to understand the situtaion and how serious it is for your son. If they don't seem to accept this as a good idea, then maybe you should take a breather from them...

ARCHIVED How Can I Help My Husband Understand?
Queen Serenity replied to hannahsue01's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel so badly for anyone who has to suffer the wrath of a spouse. It's ridiculous to have a bad attitude toward anyone who is sick. I think any spouse should be educated through this website. Let them see or even post any questions that they may have in their dazed and confused minds. They have to be made to understand that this no joke. It's an illness... -

ARCHIVED Hi Guys, Newly Diagnosed And A Few Questions
Queen Serenity replied to Kody's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Cody, Most girls would proably love to follow the gluten free diet. Here's the secret. It makes you eat healthier, and with this, you lose a ton of weight. I don't agree with today's society for the thin look, but this diet does not make you fat. That might be a big turn on! Anyway, I'm glad that you are going to stop making pizza. It does absorb... -
ARCHIVED Hi Guys, Newly Diagnosed And A Few Questions
Queen Serenity replied to Kody's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, Cody! Welcome aboard! Don't let it overwhelm you! So far, you have received some great advice. And, believe me, no matter what kind of question you have, it is never a stupid one. But, one little thing does concern me. You said that you deliever pizza. I am worried for you because you are actually exposing yourself to gluten. You might think a... -
ARCHIVED Having Friends Over For Dinner....
Queen Serenity replied to wolfie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi all! I agree with Gabby. Have your guest bring fresh fruit. A nice fruit salad is always good, and it's healthy too! Also, honesty is the best policy. Be up front. Explain to your friend that your allergy is severe, and that exposure to certain food can make you sick. Vicki gluten-free 11 years and still counting! -
ARCHIVED Irish Heritage And Celiac's
Queen Serenity replied to Queen Serenity's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
gfp, I guess that there is only one simple solution for the "special gene". Instead of looking at this from a backround point of view, this is how we should look at it. We all should be assigned to a group called MUTT(Mixed Up Through Time)! Anyway, I always enjoy your posts, and I do understand what you are trying to say. Vicki gluten... -
ARCHIVED Irish Heritage And Celiac's
Queen Serenity replied to Queen Serenity's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
gfp, I found your response interesting. I do agree with you that "racial purity" is a concept that is very sinister. That is just an idea that would breed hate. But, what does hold truth is that all humans share are a common set of genes. I also agree with you about the fact, that no one is anything but 100% human, and not 100% of anything else. ... -
Hi, Amanda! I agree with Carla. You could have been contaminated by the knife. Or, maybe, you could have glutened by something else. For instance, believe it or not, a lot of food, especially fast food, harbor hidden gluten. My advice is really to stay away from fast food all together. As far as the milkshake, do you have reactions to dairy products...

ARCHIVED Please Support Each Other, Not Start Wars
Queen Serenity replied to Queen Serenity's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi all! I agree, that not every thread has negativity. But some of the threads do have people starting out with advice, and it ends up a back and forth match, because of someone else's disagreement. If you do come across a thread like this, then you will see that the original topic got lost. Some others do try to put the topic back to normal, but some... -
Everyone, Please do not eat Doritos. There are hidden glutens contained in them. The cause is cross contamination from the prosessing. Also, Celiac's is connected to depression. There are a couple of threads on the message board that contain a web address about this connection. If I come across it, I will post again. Vicki 11 years and still...

ARCHIVED Irish Heritage And Celiac's
Queen Serenity replied to Queen Serenity's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi gfp, Thanks for the lesson in genetics. But, I didn't start this thread by looking through a scientific point of view. It was strictly curiosity! I am very suprised by the amount of responses to this survey. We, as people on the planet Earth, have always been taught to verify ourselves through the ancestory of our past. I know, that if we could... -
ARCHIVED Please Support Each Other, Not Start Wars
Queen Serenity replied to Queen Serenity's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, I'm not trying to stir up, and I hope that this topic wouldn't stir up anything. Believe me, that's the last thing I want. It just concerned me that certain issues had become explosive, which lost the point of support and help. Vicki -
ARCHIVED Please Support Each Other, Not Start Wars
Queen Serenity posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, all. I have just been reading through some of the different threads, and I can't believe some of the shouting matches that I have read. Why has everyone lost sight of the mission of this message board? We are supposed to help each other out, not cram our opinions down other people's throats. This then starts a shouting match back and forth, until... -
ARCHIVED Aaaaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhh!
Queen Serenity replied to I'dratherbecycling's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
NoGluGirl, In all seriousness, have you been checked for a thyroid problem? I have hypothyroidism, triggered by Celiac's of course, and I had an extreme weight problem. Nowadays, after being given synthroid, my frame has gone from 185 to 142. I think you should be tested right away. I was actually diagnosed 6 years after getting Celiac's. It is something... -

Hi all! Are these people kidding!!!!!!!! How could anyone be so stupid! They actually want something that causes pain and extreme exhaustion. The insanity of it all!!!!!! Maybe for every person who feels this way, they should be given a tapeworm for instance weight loss!!!! It may give them a little insight about how we feel! Vicki 11 years and... -
ARCHIVED Looking For A Support Group In Phila. Pa
Queen Serenity replied to ssight1's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi! Maybe we should form our own support group! I'm from South Philly, and maybe we can meet in Center City somewhere. I can't get to Abington, I don't drive. I'm sure there are more of us in this area. I have been in this boat for 11 years. Maybe it's time to start something new. Whole Foods is defiantely one of the best places to shop! I go to... -
I'm sorry that you guys are having such a terrible time. It takes at least a year for a full recovery. Your body has to go through so many adjustments. Plus, you have to go through a lot of mental adjustments. Not to mention the learning process of keeping gluten out of your system. It's a lot of trial and error. One problem is that newly diagnosed...
