  1. You can also try Pepto Bismol or anything muscilaagenous that will coat the gut.
  2. If the soy sauce has wheat can you just not use it? I think most of the time the seasoning packets are separate from the noodles? But you'd need to bring your own seasoning or sauce instead. Maybe some salad dressing or herbs in plastic baggie would work?
  3. Great Lisa! She has quite a few versions out there now. She has profile picture versions available too.
  4. Debbie Simpson, author of children's book "Adam's Gluten Free Surprise" is encouraging people with Facebook accounts to use one of these celiac disease awareness banners on their FB page for one week in May. She has created multiple versions that can be downloaded and used. Open Original Shared Link
  5. Hi Kerrylad, Yes, you can develop celiac disease at any time of life. It is learned autoimmune response, just like your bodies immune system learns to respond to germs. If you have the genes for celiac disease, it can be triggered at any time, as a child, an adult or even people in their 80's sometimes develop it. there are also other gluten related...
  6. Hi J, You are not a wuss or being lazy. Your body is starving for nutrients and not able to work properly without them. If my metric conversion is right, you are in the range of 5 ft 10 inches and weigh about 132 lbs. That is way low for a male your size. It seems whatever you are doing diet wise is not working, or you have another problem going on...
  7. Cool, Ireland is a beautiful country! I used to get those mouth ulcers fairly often myself, but haven't had one in quite a while. I guess its one of those thing that went away with gluten-free although I just didn't notice it. Yep, gluten is in a whole lot of the processed foods these days. You really need to learn to check labels every time you buy something...
  8. Hi Kerrylad, Just guessing you are in Ireland? Eating in restraunts is a bad idea of you are just starting out on the gluten-free diet. Most are not safe for celiacs. Some restraunts do have gluten-free menus but you should still wait until your body has adapted to the gluten-free diet and you have learned how to avoid cross contamination before...
  9. HI Bryan, The advice to avoid starches and sugars is because people who are starting the gluten-free diet can have bacteria overgrowth that feeds on that stuff. It can cause bloating and gas and irritation. Symptoms very similar to lactose intolerance, as well as diahrea. If you aren't having those symptoms, then you may not have that issue. And...
  10. HI Kerrylad, Since your test results are negative you may as well try the gluten-free diet for a few months and see what happens. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease and you need to avoid even tiny amounts of gluten to stop the autoimmune reaction. It can take weeks to months for the immune reactions to stop. So cheating once a week or so will...
  11. Hi Marco, I am going to assume you are asking about eating greasy foods? There are w things can think of. Gastroparesis is slow digestive processing. Gastroparesis is really a symptom though, not a cause. It could be caused by multiple things. Diabetes or malabsorption, physical obstruction is even a possibility, Although I doubt it is that, or you...
  12. Great news Colleen! Praise the Lord!
  13. Hi Bookmom, It is not unusual for people to feel worse for a while after going on the gluten-free diet. It is a big change in diet for some people. There withdrawal symptoms possible because gluten can affect certain recepters in the brain that like opioids do. Another nuero type issue is vitamin levels.; Celiac disease can cause malabsorption of...
  14. Hi Marco, your symptoms could certainly be from celiac disease. You may also have diabetes. You should get tested for celiac disease and diabetes IMHO. Don't stop eating gluten (wheat, rye Barley) until the testing is done tho. If you do the results won't be accurate. The home tests are a good thing, but they are only one test type. Some people...
  15. Ah, now that's a good one Lisa! Thanks for the add!
  16. That's great news Colleen! Congrats on a positive report! You get an A+ in my book regardless of the report of course.
  17. Here are some resources on suicide prevention. Over a million people commit suicide each year. If someone you know is thinking about it or talking about it, these resources may help. It can be confusing to deal with a situation like this, but there are groups out there who deal with it every day. They can help. Open Original Shared Link Open Original...
  18. Sounds good to me CG. Sometimes it takes a while for our bodies to adjust and heal. One study suggested 18 months for some gut changes to happen, possibly longer. So some changes just need time to happen. I think slowly getting better is better than slowly getting worse though. Even if it takes some time, an improvement is worthwhile.
  19. Hi Colleeny, If it is a recent thread, you can use the "View new content" link on the top right side of the main screen. that will list all the recent threads.
  20. Here in DC, the Dorfadills have bloomed, apple trees and cherry trees are blooming. Crab apples trees will start in a few weeks I suspect. Forsythia bloomed although I didn't see much of it in the back yard. The bag of onions I bought sprouted new growth in the kitchen. Some sweet potatoes did the same thing just a few days after buying them. They...
  21. Hi John, IH gave some good recommendations there. I think any of those brands would have a worthwhile digestive enzyme also. Bluebonnet is one other brand I like. I use their Betaine HCL with pepsin myself. The sugar and starchy foods are often a problem for people at first because the feed bacteria in the gut and can cause a lot of gas and bloating...
  22. Hi John, Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you are having a bit of rough go of it. I used to have some bleeding from the rear but not as severe as what yours sounds to be. Have you checked all the side effects for the medications you are taking? Some medications can have pretty severe side effects. I like the "Open Original Shared Link" web...
  23. It could just be ongoing recovery from your glutening. It's not a 5 minute process. And or you could be re-glutening yourself from time to time by eating something that is cross contaminated. When your gut is raw, irritated, and inflamed it is not surprising if it doesn't digest food well. It would probably help to stick to whole foods and a simple...
  24. Welcome to the forum Chippy! You may find answers to some of your questions in these threads. Some starting the gluten-free diet tips for the first 6 months: Get tested before starting the gluten-free diet. Get your vitamin/mineral levels tested also. Don't eat in restaurants Eat only whole foods not processed foods. Eat only food you cook yourself...
  25. Welcome to the forum Tamber! I hope that's a big couch you are hiding behind! People love to answer these kinds of questions. My own contribution is linked below: How bad is cheating? https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/94443-how-bad-is-cheating-on-the-gluten-free-diet-periodically/ There are many gluten-free food options now a days. You...
