ARCHIVED New At This Need Some Help!
GFinDC replied to Kconnors54's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi KConners, Welcome to the forum! It sounds like they did an endoscopy of your upper small intestine and found villi blunting. You should get a copy of your endoscopy results for your records. Also get copies of blood antibodie tests for celiac disease. Celiac disease is both a food intolerance and an autoimmune disease, but it is not an allergy... -
Hi, With celiac you need to avoid all wheat, rye and barley. And as was said earlier, you should avoid oats also for a while at least. Really you shouldn't try eating oats until you are feeling better for a couple months straight. If you aren't getting better it could be either another condition affecting you or you are still eating something that...

ARCHIVED Can Someone Talk Me Down?
GFinDC replied to CaliSparrow's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, the good news first. You probably won't turn into powder. At least I hope not. Maybe you should keep some plastic baggies around just in case though. The immune system is one of those gung-ho for the job type of things. It will keep up it's attack on your body until it is satisfied that all the gluten cowboys that rode into town are dead, the... -
ARCHIVED Returning To Celiac 11 Years Later For Help
GFinDC replied to CiscoEngineer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Cisco, A little or lot of gluten symptoms? I can't answer for myself since I haven't eaten a lot of gluten in over 5 years since I started the gluten-free diet. But a little does cause me symptoms that aren't real fun. Trying to compare your symptoms to others is somewhat iffy although perfectly normal to want to do. It is a way to help understand... -
ARCHIVED Returning To Celiac 11 Years Later For Help
GFinDC replied to CiscoEngineer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi CE, Welcome to the forum! If you had celiac before you still have it now. People don't get over celiac disease. It is a learned immune response by our bodies. There isn't any un-learn mode for the immune system. That's why you can get a vaccine shot in your childhood and still have immunity many years later. When you stop eating gluten... -
This is about a bakery in New Jersey. I thought it made sense to post this not because they were dinged for undeclared gluten, because they weren't. But because they do make gluten-free products and were dinged for misleading labeling in other areas, ie sugar and fat content. The undeclared sugar and fat could be a problem for people with diabetes....

HI Julissa, I like Passover. My local Giant groceries tend to overstock the Manachevitz coconut macaroons and then put them on sale afterwards. Nice deal! I hope you enjoy your Passover. Just leave some of those macaroons for the rest of us.

ARCHIVED Guessed Completely Wrong...
GFinDC replied to kitgordon's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Maybe you are just very tasty Kit! I believe that about one person getting bit more than another. My ex would get multiple mosquitoes bites while I would get one or 2. We were having a little discussion about DE (diatomaceous earth) in another thread. One of the uses of DE is to kill insects. You can sprinkle on your carpets and it will kill them... -
ARCHIVED Guessed Completely Wrong...
GFinDC replied to kitgordon's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Darn buglies are hungry! It's about time to get some flea treatment ready too. Warm weather brings them out. My cat likes to go outside and she will find them no mater where they try to hide. Glad you figured it out! I think bed bugs are much easier to deal with than DH anyway. -

ARCHIVED Symptoms... Sometimes?
GFinDC replied to PopeFrancis's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome Pope Francis! I was wondering when you would show up! As you probably know by now, it is best to get some testing done for the blood antibodies. Some people have no symptoms at all, and they call that silent celiac. But they still have the disease and are still getting damage on the inside. Symptoms can be very mis-leading when it come to... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Sensitivity: What Does It Really Mean? - Scientific American
GFinDC replied to MJ-S's topic in Publications & Publicity
Thanks MJ-S, An interesting article. I think I read elsewhere that the innate immune system is thought to be involv4ed in Crohn's reactions also. That might explain why some Crohn's patients find the gluten-free diet helpful. -
ARCHIVED Crises, Or Invitation To Anniversary Celebration?
GFinDC replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Super Sensitive People
Hi Diana, I'd go in the restraunt myself. But I'd choose a restraunt that doesn't do baking, or make it's own pasta from scratch. That way you are less likely to have flour in the air. -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed. "no" Symptoms. What Do I Do?
GFinDC replied to argybargy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi ArgyB, I spend less on food now than before I went gluten-free. Whole foods are less expensive than processed foods. But if you are eating out a lot there are a few things you can try that may help with that. Taking some kind of safe food with you is a great idea. Fruit, (oranges, nanners, apples) travel well and are easy to eat. You can try eating... -
ARCHIVED Test Results-What Do They Mean?
GFinDC replied to Missdoodle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
HI, Your bodies immune system makes a variety of different types of antibodie cells. IgA, IgG, IgE etc. You can have a positive result on one type of antibodie but not on another. But they all do damage to the gut if you have a celiac auto-immune response. Basically, the immune cells attack your own tissue, instead of an outside invader. That is... -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed. "no" Symptoms. What Do I Do?
GFinDC replied to argybargy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, welcome to the forum. I wouldn't worry much about being "that guy". There are lots more people eating gluten-free these days, even people who don't have celiac disease. People with diabetes and Crohn's disease sometimes follow the gluten-free diet. Other people follow it just because it is a healthy diet. Heck, two of my neighbors are starting... -

ARCHIVED When A Pancake Is A Paincake
GFinDC replied to RiceGuy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi Riceguy, I am not a big pancake cooker myself, but I did experiment with them when I first went gluten-free. one flour that I found had great results was pea flour. I don't know if that would work for you of course but might be worth trying. I bought some split peas at the grocery and ground them up into flour. My pancakes were green from the... -
ARCHIVED I Just Told Off Michael Pollan On Behalf Of The Celiac Community...
GFinDC replied to ButterflyChaser's topic in Publications & Publicity
I see what you mean BC. I thought the article was negative towards gluten free diets. The suggestion that it is hard to eat gluten free and eat healthy is wrong IMHO. If all those gluteny foods are so healthy for people why are there so many of them sick with IBS, gerd, etc? I don't buy it. -
ARCHIVED Can't Take This Disease Anymore!
GFinDC replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Mo, I hope the doctor who told you that you never had celiac disease got an earful! Aleuesy, Rice can be a problem just like any food can be a problem. The simple way to find out is to eliminate it from your diet for a couple weeks. Actually, elimianting all grains for a couple weeks and then adding back one item at a time is a good way to... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Get Gluten Type Reactions From Coffee?
GFinDC replied to gluten-is-kryptonite's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I gave up coffee some years ago. After a few years I tried tea and am able to drink that now. I haven't tried coffee though and don't plan to. -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed With Celiac Yesterday
GFinDC replied to ruthie-ray's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum Ruthi! I've read on here that some doctors will diagnose based on blood antibodie tests and response to the gluten-free diet. If you stop eating gluten and you get better, plus you had positive antibodies and they decrease over time, then it seems pretty obvious you have celiac disease. Sometimes it can take months or years to... -
Hi AfterAll, Some of your symptoms sound like hypothyroidism and some of them sound like possible gall bladder symptoms. Or they could be side affects of low stomach acid (causing poor digestion) caused by the medication you are taking. The side affects for Aciphex are listed below. They sound pretty serious to me. It sounds like they get more serious...

ARCHIVED What Ails Me?
GFinDC replied to solitaire-master's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi SM, Sorry, things can be slow to get responses on the weekends. I think you are wise to go ahead and get the testing done for celiac disease. Staying on gluten until testing is done is very important. If you do have celiac it is helpful to know for sure. Your symptoms could definitely point towards celiac disease. Many celiacs have to give up...
