ARCHIVED Pain Under Ribs - What Is Physically Going On?
GFinDC replied to Sibenjam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gall bladder is a possibility. Damage and inflammation of the small intestine caused by celiac disease is another. Celiac disease causes damage to the villi lining of the small intestine. It's not real unusual to see posts on this forum by people with both gall bladder issues and celiac disease. Sometimes the gall bladder can heal after the irritation... -
I agree Rice Dream or any of their products are not a good idea. There are many threads on the forum about Rice Dream causing people problems. Most granola does have oats in it. And it could easily be cc's if it is not certified gluten-free by somebody competent to to that.

ARCHIVED Completely Desperate. Do I Have Celiac Disease?
GFinDC replied to MissTeacup's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Tescup, I suggest you have your vitamin and mineral levels tested, and also have the celiac panel done. Do all this before going off gluten. Then go on the gluten-free diet for 3 to 6 months 100%. No cheating. And see if you have improvement in your symptoms. The gluten-free diet is not something you start and stop, you have to stick with it to... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Vs. Gluten Intolerance
GFinDC replied to BZBee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
They (them researcher-heads) only confirmed that non-celiac wheat sensitivity is real last year (2012). They think it is related more to the innate immune system. Celiac is a response by the adaptive immune system. They think Crohn's is also a response by the innate immune system. So it is still an immune response, just not the same immune response. ... -

ARCHIVED Bacterial Dysbiosis/leaky Gut
GFinDC replied to Bryan E's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Celiac disease testing isn't valid if you do it after you have gone gluten-free. So your recent tests should not have shown any gliaden antibodies if you were gluten-free for a couple years. I am not sure from your post if you had stopped eating gluten and then started back up eating it for awhile and then stopped again? If that is the case it will take... -
ARCHIVED Malabsorption, Depersonalization, Migraines And Gluten Oh My!
GFinDC replied to MIgrainePosterChild's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi MPC, Try simplifying your diet for a while. Processed foods are full of various chemicals that your body needs to detoxify and remove. While you are healing it is better not to put that extra strain on your system. Instead eat whole foods like veggies, meats, fruits, nuts. gluten-free bread is usually quite expensive but a cheap sub is Mission...- 7 replies

ARCHIVED Can Food Intolerance Cause Anaphylaxis? Yes.
GFinDC replied to GottaSki's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Wow Lisa, I am glad you are ok! That's scary stuff. Were you able to remember what you ate that day and write it down? Might be a clue there somewhere. A friend told me a few years ago that his wife had started taking quercetin and it helped her allergies. Might be something to check up on. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Get Gluten Type Reactions From Coffee?
GFinDC replied to gluten-is-kryptonite's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
well, take backs are free right? So, I gave up regular tea for a few days and feel much better. Not tired, not sleeping as much, actually have some energy too. So tea isn't for me it seems. It didn't seem to bother me right away. but after a while it caused more and more symptoms. Kind of snuck up on me. -
Hi Schtink, Welcome to the forum! Celiac is hereditary so your children should be tested, although it would be hard to get accurate tests when they are very young. But, having the genes for celiac disease does not by itself mean you have celiac disease. Many people have the genes but not celiac. The reaction by the immune system has to be triggered...

I was low on Vitamin D also. Doc had me taking 1000 units of D a day. After a year I was still low so he switched me to 2000 units a day. There was a news story about vitamin D pills not being marked correctly recently. They said some of the vit D pills were very low on the actual D content vs the marking on the label.

ARCHIVED Gluten Issue
GFinDC replied to HuberNS92's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Huber, Yes, you can have gluten issues and no GI symptoms. Read up on silent celiac. There may be more silent celiacs than regular GI symptom celiacs. People walking around every day without GI symptoms but with other things happening in their bodies. They estimate over 90% of people with celiac disease are undiagnosed. -
ARCHIVED Might I Have Celiac Disease?
GFinDC replied to learning2cope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, welcome to the forum! You certainly could have celiac disease. The first testing is usually the blood antibodie tests, usually called a celiac panel. Then an endoscopy if the antibodies are positive. However, if you have DH, they can take skin biopsy to check for IgA antibodies in the skin. Even if you don't pass any celiac disease tests, you... -
ARCHIVED New Here, Feeling Miserable
GFinDC replied to SarahRN482's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
HI, If I were you I'd print out this thread and show it to your doctor. You wrote a pretty darn good description of your symptoms and how gluten affected them. So let your doctor know so the can start from the same information. DH (dermatitis herpetiformis) is a skin rash that only people with celiac disease get. They test for it by taking a biopsy... -
Hi Wahls, There was a story about a sports team going all gluten-free a while back. I think it was bicycle team. Anyway, some sports people are trying gluten-free sometimes to improve their performance. Could be why your doc is up on gluten-free and celiac disease. I don't know the numbers but the do say Hashimoto's is more common in women than...

ARCHIVED Did This Happen To You When You Went Gluten Free?
GFinDC replied to TheHeartRN's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi HeartRN, Yes, it is not unusual to have GI symptoms for months after going gluten-free. Sometimes years even. For some people going gluten-free is a big change in diet. Your GI system has to adjust. There are bacterial changes that will happen over time since you have changed the diet of the bacteria in your gut too. That by itself can cause many... -
ARCHIVED Test Result Confusion
GFinDC replied to mythreegems's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, Celiac disease testing is not perfect. You don't automatically get perfectly accurate test results. It's not an exact science. Your body and mine are different, and the tests may show very different results if we both eat the same gluteny food for 2 weeks. Some of the celiac disease centers here recommend 3 months eating gluten before doing an... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Issue
GFinDC replied to HuberNS92's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello Huber, Another possibility with similar symptoms to celiac disease is non-celiac wheat sensitivity. Some of us think of that as NCGI or non-celiac gluten intolerance. It won't show up on the celiac disease antibody tests because it involves a different immune system response by the innate immune system vs the adaptive immune system. Not much... -

ARCHIVED So Glad I Found This Forum! New Here :)
GFinDC replied to CrazyCandleLady's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Just so you know, celiac disease is not an allergy. Allergies are IgE immune cell responses. Celiac disease is an IgG or IgA immune response. Allergies tend to start causing symptoms very quickly, and they can stop quickly also once the allergen is removed. The IgA and IgG immune cells tend to be a little slower to start causing symptoms/damage, and they...
