  1. Hi Kerrylad, You should talk to a doctor about your symptoms IMHO. Stinging in your gut could be from many things. It could be irritation from celiac disease It could be H. Pylori, it could be gall bladder problems, a sphincter of Odddi dysfunction, or a parasite etc. There are multiple things it could be. Have you had celiac disease testing yet...
  2. Well, grumpy-pants is better than farty -pants anyway. Ksee, I hope you stick around too. We need people who are willing to help keep us less than totally corkscewed sometimes. None of us are perfect, and we all have our bad days and our not-so bad days. And sometimes it's not easy to avoid spreading that around. But generally people seem willing...
  3. I hope it goes well Michael! Look for fruits, nuts, and salads. The usual problem with salads is they put croutons on them by default, or throw a chunk of bread on them. Make sure they know you don't want that. Sometimes restraunts can provide a couple of veggie side dishes. I had those a few times without problems.
  4. HI Rene, I was pretty paranoid about gluten early in the diet. I think that can be helpful actually as there are lots of new things to learn and new habits to learn. Like reading labels every time, and being aware of CC possibilities. It's ok to be little concerned about your health after all, when you have a chronic incurable disease. But celiac...
  5. How about salt,, pepper and garlic powder on the chicken? Throw on some herbs if you like.
  6. Straying back to Unhappy Coeliacs question for a bit. UC, if you get sick often maybe it's time you changed your diet. Half way measures don't work for the gluten-free diet. You need to make a serious commitment to the gluten-free diet and get the gluten out of your body. Then your immune system can focus it's efforts on fighting germs and other nasties...
  7. Pretty sure poodles are from outer space Peotr... I think the increase in celiac rates is related to the all around positive attributes of celiacs. Funny, attractive, intelligent and know how to cook. Therefore better mates. So simple!
  8. I take Natural Sources raw thyroid, freeze dried. It has no dairy or soy etc in it.
  9. Hi Nicole, Some of your symptoms match up with hypothyroidism. Open Original Shared Link Joint pain can also happen with nightshades and soy. I take raw thyroid capsules. If I stop them for a couple weeks my joints start to hurt. Might be something to look at.
  10. Hi Bcanela, You can try using Mission brand corn tortillas instead of bread. It is much cheaper and works fine. You can make small wraps with it. There are other kinds of gluten-free wraps available too. Rudi's and Trader Joe's both sell them. You need to keep them in the cooler as they don't have preservatives. If they are too stiff and crack, just...
  11. Oh no, it would whistle like a wolf if I had the flame up high. But I always keep it very low, so no whistling. I don't mind the tea water taking a little longer to get hot. If it takes awhile that's fine. I usually keep it half on and half off the burner so it warms up even slower. The bear was fun. But who can resist a Lady with a feather? Lady...
  12. Those cauliflower doughs sound interesting. I haven't tried them myself but may soon. Here's a few more links for them. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  13. Did somebody say biscuits? Make your own, takes a couple minutes is all. They can be browned in an oven or over a gas flame on a stove top. Kinickinick makes gluten-free bagels and buns. You sound like many of us David. Sick for many years and not knowing why or what for etc. Ah well, all we can do is go forward from here. And that's not a bad thing...
  14. My latest repeated FUBAR was leaving the tea kettle on and going to bed. Fortunately it almost always had enough water in it that it didn't go dry by morning. Maybe once or twice tho. I used to have dyslexia and mix up numbers fairly often. But not much problem with that now. The door frame attacks are not something they warn us about in safety classes...
  15. The "may contains" statement would stop me. Although I would avoid it anyway since it has soy in it.
  16. Hi DAW, Celiac awareness is something that we need to work on throughout the world. It's changing for the better in recent years, but still has a ways to go. May is actually celiac awareness month so this is a good time to let people know about it. Actually anytime is a good time though. Most people with celiac disease don't know they have it. Many...
  17. Hi Jhol, Allergies are a result of an IgE antibody reaction. The tests for them are only related to those IgE reactions. there are also other types of antibodies that can cause reactions, such as IgG and IgA etc. The immune system is pretty complex and works really well. Or we'd all be dead. There is also a separation by what they call the adaptive...
  18. Hi Arian, If you can get the blood antibodie tests done you should do that before trying the gluten-free diet. The blood test are a simple procedure but you may have to wait a few weeks for the results.
  19. Hi Dbygones, Welcome to the forum! It is better not to eat oats for the first 6 months to a year. Even if they are certified gluten-free oats. There is a small percentage of celiacs who react to oats just like they do to wheat, rye, and barley. If you are in that small percentage you won't heal on the gluten-free diet if you are eating oats. ...
  20. Hi Marco, You could be having actual pressure in your sinus cavities. I've had pretty active hayfever symptoms before, and they can cause that kind of pressure. Why exactly is a good question though. A+ ! After you have been on the gluten-free diet for a few months, it gets to be easier to identify the foods that cause reactions. It's just something...
  21. OK, thanks for responding! Sometimes women say their symptoms are improved while they are pregnant, and then get worse afterwards. There are some immune system changes during pregnancy that could explain that I think. Congrats on possibly getting an earlier appointment. Hopefully it will work out. I didn't get an endoscopy myself. It took me 3 months...
  22. Hi Marco, Yep, people with the nueral affects like gluten ataxia often enough don't test positive on the GI antibodies. They may not have any GI symptoms sometimes. They can also be more sensitive to gluten contamination that most celiacs. and it can take longer for them to heal their nueral issues than a gut issue does. Nerves just plain grow slowly...
  23. Hi and welcome to the forum! Symptoms and reaction times do vary an awful lot with celiac disease. Some people get no GI symptoms at all. Some react in an hour or less and some after a day to two. It is not a set thing. I used to react within an hour myself. I am not sure I still would but don't want to try to find out! And symptoms for me could...
  24. Hi DAW, Welcome to the forum! You really sound like a celiac to me, from your symptom description. Did you notice any difference in your symptoms while you were preggers? Just curious Getting a tax deduction is kind of iffy I think. You can only claim the difference in the cost of normal and gluten-free foods in the USA, not the full cost...
  25. Swinging back and forth from hypo to hyper thyroid is a typical process in Hashimoto's Thyroiditis patients. Hashimoto's is more common with celiac disease. As the gut heals it is able to absorb nutrients better. So meds may have to be adjusted down.
