Hi Tennisman, Just wondering about apples for you. You said you react to a lot of fruits now? Cider/apples could be a problem there. I have a problem with grapes myself. Any grapes, including raisins, jelly, jam, wine. They all cause a reaction for me. Goodbye Pamela's gluten-free peanut butter cookies, sweetened with grape juice! :-( I've been...

ARCHIVED A Relative Is Diagnosed Celiac- Won't Go Gluten-Free
GFinDC replied to LeahBanicki's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
People are stubborn. I have a brother who is at least saying he might try the gluten-free diet now, after years of being sick. So they can change sometimes. Don't forget to try the gluten-free peanut butter cookies on her. 1 cup peanut butter 1 cup sugar 1 egg 1 handfull of Enjoy Life choco chips. bake 10 minutes. -
ARCHIVED Joint Pain, But No Stomach Issues? Please Read
GFinDC replied to lclw's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
HI there LCLW, Welcome to the site! I wonder if your psoriasis is related to DH (dermatitis herpetiformis)? You might want to do some searching on that or read the forum section devoted to it. DH is a rash that only people with celiac get. It causes itchy blisters. They can test for4 it by doing a biopsy of the skin next to a blister (lesion). ... -
ARCHIVED Does Bcm7 (A Milk Opiod) Initiate Celiac Disease?
GFinDC replied to icm's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
HA HA, I think that's what we usually call brain fog on the forum. Thanks for the explanation Skylark, that really helps! -
I agree, B-vitamins may help and cutting out alcohol can help too. It wouldn't hurt to go to a doctor and get your vitamin levels checked. Soy or nightshades may cause symptoms too.

ARCHIVED Need Help - Four Months Post-Diagnosis
GFinDC replied to myadidas1981's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I Went soy-free it took about a month and a half to get over it. So don't assume it isn't working if you don't feel better right away. There is a relation between celiac and liver issues. Probably a good reason to limit or eliminate alcohol also. -
ARCHIVED Soy Allergy?
GFinDC replied to ShannonA's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since celiac disease affects the small intestine they do an endoscopy to take several biopsy samples for microscopic review. Colonoscopy won't detect celiac, so your GI missed the boat there. -
Good for you Troy. The gluten-free diet can be kind of rough the first months, so don't give up if you have a recurrence of symptoms. It takes some time for thing inside to heal. Here's some light reading: FAQ Celiac com https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/forum-7/announcement-3-frequently-asked-questions-about-celiac-disease/ Newbie Info...

ARCHIVED Celiac Test Blood Test
GFinDC replied to jdizzle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You may be getting gluten in your diet without realizing it. Vitamins and meds, teas, coffees, everything needs to be checked or eliminated. You may also be reacting to another food like soy, or dairy or nightshades etc. Cutting back to a very simple diet of whole foods only for a couple months may help. -
ARCHIVED Does Having Celiac Make It Harder For The Body To Clear A Viral Infection
GFinDC replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Viruses are tough. But we would all be very sick all the time if our bodies couldn't defeat them. There are viruses all around. And not just in our ears, they would spread. I am sorry you are still having trouble with your ears. Are you off dairy and gluten now? Staying off the things that make you sick is important if you want to get better. I don... -
ARCHIVED Could I Be Lactose Intolerant?
GFinDC replied to Sage122's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yogurt does not have much lactose because it is fermented and that sugar is what the little buglies eat. Most chocolate is milk chocolate and it usually has soy in it. So you might be reacting to soy. If it is just lactose intolerance you can take Lactaid pills or get Lactaid milk and it should help. If you react to hard cheese then you may have a problem... -
ARCHIVED I Am Sick. Undiagnosed. Confused. Concerned.
GFinDC replied to asickdaddy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Another thing that might help. Celiac can affect your brain. It can stop your gut from absorbing vitamins and minerals your body needs to function correctly.. Also, gluten and casein (milk protein) can act like opiods in the brain. That means they can directly affect your mental state and possibly cause depression, anxiety, anger etc. With celiac we... -
ARCHIVED A Newbie With Lots Of Questions!
GFinDC replied to Alexa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome Alexa! The gene testing can't tell you if you have celiac. It can tell you that you have some genes that are related to autoimmune diseases, but not that you will develop celiac. Many people have the genes for celaic but don't have celiac. If your daughter is already gluten-free then it is too late to test her without a gluten challenge... -
ARCHIVED Prospect Of Being Celiac Is Getting Me Down
GFinDC replied to Oneiros's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Luke, Welcome to the forum! Yes, to the depression being linked to celiac disease. Celiac can sometimes cause larger protein fragments into the blood stream, where they may eventually affect the brain. That is often called leaky gut. It seems some sections of the proteins in gluten in dairy are clsoe enough in form to opiods tha tthey can bind... -
ARCHIVED Does Bcm7 (A Milk Opiod) Initiate Celiac Disease?
GFinDC replied to icm's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
The triggers idea for celiac reminds me of the way they used to talk about stomach ulcers. They (doctors) used to say ulcers were casued by stress, too much spicy foods, alcohol, etc. A whole slew of things that sort of sounded reasonable. But it turned out to be a bacteria causing the ulcers. And that is not the same at all. I don't think anyone really... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Test Blood Test
GFinDC replied to jdizzle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For the blood test they draw some blood, no big deal. But you do need to be eating gluten for a while before hand. If you get sick when you eat gluten what is the point of getting the test?" You won't be able to eat it without getting sick anyway, so it seems kind of pointless. The test won't make it possible to eat gluten. That doesn't mean you can... -
ARCHIVED I Am Sick. Undiagnosed. Confused. Concerned.
GFinDC replied to asickdaddy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You don't have to get a doctor's permission to go gluten-free. You don't have to get any tests done. You can just do it and be done with the whole testing and wondering about it thing. Symptoms may not resolve completely in a year. One study showed up to 18 months for some people. But you have to stick with it if you want results. Regardless of what... -
You are quite welcome Lewiss. Chit-chat we can do. Sometimes overdo in fact. Shoot, we have a whole section of the forum dedicated to gab/chat. The "coping with" forum is also a good place to get ideas about gluten-free and celiac. Family probably won't understand at first what is going on with your diet. It takes a while to understand the issues...

Yep, the blood antibodie tests are almost always correct when positive. But when negative they are not so reliable. The antibodies are mostly in the gut, doing their work, not wandering around the bloodstream aimlessly. That risk of false negatives is why people should go ahead and try the diet regardless of the test results. Even the endoscopy is not...
