  1. Hey hey, Yep, when your body is not constantly mounting a gorilla antibody war against gluten invaders it can start using those resources for other things. That can free up energy for other things that were not considered as vital before. Fighting disease is hard work and the body takes it seriously and puts a lot of effort into it. For me I have ...
  2. She may stop reacting to those other foods after she has been off them for a while and off gluten also. When the gut is irritated it isn't happy with lots of things we throw at it. Her immune system may be in hyperdrive attacking anything and everything that looks a little bit suspicious. But that may settle down on gluten-free. The thinking I have read...
  3. An elimination diet is a good way to go. Enterolabs has some food intolerance testing but I don't know how reliable it is. Skin prick testing and even ELISA testing is not super reliable either. Starting an elimination diet with only 5 foods is a good beginning. You want to start with a small number of variables not a large number. Then you add...
  4. I agree with the Shroomster. No bread or potato starch in anything. Kick it to the curb for a couple months and then eat potatoes every day for a week and see what happens. Remember peppers and tomatoes and eggplants are nightshade family plants also. They all have alkaloids that are not so good for a body. They use alkaloids as drugs in fact. Powerful...
  5. If you are sure you are having symptoms from re-introducing gluten then you really have sort of an answer now. But if you have doubts you can stay on gluten and do the testing. It all depends on what the testing is worth to you as an individual. Some people really need the official diagnosis to motivate them to stay on the diet, or the want it for tax...
  6. That's great Lumi, an improvement means something is going right. It is sometimes a bit of a back and forth thing at the beginning of the gluten-free diet with people. They feel better, then they feel worse, then they feel better etc. That is just an adjustment process to the new diet. It can help to take probiotics and limit or stop dairy and sugar and...

    ARCHIVED Celiac And Time

Ha-Ha Mike, yep the door step sounds a little more like it. Gluten free doesn't have to be more expensive than eating regular food. You don't need to eat all the expensive breads and cookies and baked goods at all. People can live just fine without that stuff. Getting used to eating a different diet can take some adjustment though, and may not be easy...
  8. HI Abby, RE: your question about false negatives, yes, there are false negatives. False positives are rare but false negatives are not. The antibodies to your gut (celiac antibodies) are mostly in your gut where they do their work. They aren't aimlessly floating around the blood stream, they have a job to do and they go do it. Actually most of them...
  9. Popcorn is hard for me to digest. For that matter any kind of seed or shell is hard for me to digest. Except peanuts for some reason. You are right though, you will need to wash the pots and pans and silverware very well It would probably be simpler to keep a separate set of pots and pans for your cooking. Dish washers may not do a good enough job of...
  10. HI Lewis, I know it can be rough. But if you can stay the course and find your way through the food intolerances maze it can be very worthwhile. It seems very common for other people, even our own family not to understand. Don't get too worried about that, as long as they aren't cc'ing you it doesn't matter a whole lot. Celiacs are only about 1% of...
  11. The undigested food could be from food passing through the GI system too fast. Chewing well and taking some Betaine HCL with your meals may help. I don't think it's good to take the Betaine HCL too often, your stomach naturally produces hydrochloric acid to digest the food that you eat, and to kill bacteria and other pathogens. But there are things that...
  12. Hah, had to post this one to prove you are so right. And hot ones too! I hope this balloon pic doesn't offend. If it does feel free to remove picture. My sister in New Mexico sent me this today. Said it was from the Albuqurque Baloon Festival Open Original Shared Link
  13. It's one of those real good questions that we don't have a definite answer to. I believe at the beginning our guts are just so irritated that we may not notice some reactions. But then later it seem like additional intolerances do arise. One theory about that is the leaky gut issue. Supposedly a celiacs gut is wont to allow some protein fragments...
  14. Another one to consider is the CSA. They also have local chapters in many areas. Open Original Shared Link
  15. Right you are Mitzi, I misread indeed. Thanks for catching that! I agree, getting back on gluten now is the thing to do so testing can be done. It's much easier to do the testing before going gluten-free. A 3 month gluten challenge can be pretty rough to do later on. Ker0Pi, Recovery and healing from damage is unique to each individual. Some...
  16. We had lots of people without power here in the DC area too. Several people killed by trees and downed electrical lines. Mostly it is back on now though, My sister in Ohio just got power back yesterday. And a co-worker in W. VA got it back yesterday too. Pretty bad storm for sure.
  17. Thanks for your stories NST and Onierios, Just in case Raven's post above raises a question on it, DH here often means dermatitis herpetiformis. DH is a skin condition only celiacs get. Not all do but some get it. NST, there are several people with silent celiac on the forum. They sometimes have trouble determining if they have been eating cross...
  18. You might have celiac. It doesn't sound like the doctor gave you the full celiac disease blood antibody panel. They usually test for total IgA also, as some people don't really make IgA cells. Since you are already gluten-free for a couple months though, it won't do any good to go for more tests. Except may be total IgA to know if you make it or...
  19. Not TMI. We like to get too the gritty details. Sounds like things are changing for you digestion wise, which means the gluten-free diet is doing something. You could try taking probiotics and digestive enzymes for a while. And avoid the processed foods and sugar and starches. You are still in the early healing stages, and things may not settle down...
  20. Here the is top 8 list. On the forum we often see people with soy, nightshades, dairy, corn, and egg intolerances. Allergy testing is not the same as food intolerances though, so it may not help. Celiacs react to the gluten in wheat, rye, barley, and sometimes oats. 21. Hmm, some good days feeling better but mostly bad days feeling yucky. I made a lot of mistakes eating things I shouldn't have at first. First few months were an improvement but not at all a normal well feeling person. I seemed to have reactions to just about everything I ate in fact. And not the kind like ": Oh that was so yummy, I could eat a bunch...
  22. Hi Ron, Good deal on the pro-biotics. I get a lot of Solgar brand vitamins since they do a good job labeling them for allergens. Or Nature Made. Another thing that may help is to try some Betaine HCL once a week. It turns to stomach acid and can help with digestion and killing off stomach bugs. T-Man might try it some too. I am adding a link...
  23. Hi T-Man, One of my visible symptoms is swelling in my feet and ankles. If I get into something that sets off a reaction that is the first outward sign. So I figured out the grapes by a simple test, no swollen feet and ankles without them, swollen feet and ankles with them. I had eliminated wine for several months a couple years ago. But I didn't...
  24. It's a real good question Nicole. Just about everything we thought was known on celiac 50 years ago has been shown to be wrong. It's not one in 10k people, it's 1 in 133. And you don't outgrow it. And it's not only a children's disease. And it's not only a Northern European disease either. But IBS is an easy answer that doesn't take much effort....
  25. Cookie temp, 350 F. Sorry, left that out. They are better than regular floury cookies too. They don't have a flour taste, which is not somethi9ng you miss once it's gone from a cookie.
