  2. Many celiacs cannot tolerate gluten-free oats. That appears to be the catalyst for this reaction, so maybe take this as your hard lesson learned. You can try to eliminate the remaining dairy in your diet, but I would think if you were going to react to it, you would have by now. Oats have a very similar protein to gluten, which is why many react. A dietician...
  3. Here is a safe/unsafe list through this site. This should help you know what to look for. https://www.celiac.com/categories/Safe-Glut...3B-Ingredients/ The best piece of advice, and what most people are going to tell you, is familiarize yourself with what to look for, and read EVERY label. To start with, the best and easiest is to eat as much fresh...
  4. Some folks are super sensitive from the beginning, maybe you're one of them. Time will tell. In some folks the opposite happens; they get a little less sensitive over time. Who knows The way my doc explained it was that a celiac/gluten intolerant person is just that; intolerant. Whether symptomatic or not, your body cannot tolerate gluten. BUT, there...
  5. Hi there! Unfortunately, your doc did not run the entire panel, as you know, and he really should have. It is very hard to actually rule out celiac, and it shouldn't be done on an incomplete blood test. At the minimum, if he was only going to order that test, he should also have ordered a total IgA serum t make sure that she is not IgA deficient. ...
  6. I had bloodwork done about a year and a half before going gluten-free, and it showed up an allergy to egg whites. This didn't surprise me too much since eggs have made me feel yucky my whole life, and I just naturally stayed away from them. Nothing else showed up, not even environmental allergies, which did surprise me, since there are some very definite...
  7. I just put 1 tsp in a shot glass and fill the rest with water, then just drink it like that. I do NOT recommend drinking it by itself... burns a lot!
  8. It helps me too, especially after I've been glutened. I think it helps me digest my food better. Glad it's helping
  9. Food diary. Could be that you have other food intolerances? I didn't discover my soy problem until I'd been gluten-free for a year.
  10. What tarnalberry said is the best advice: don't dwell on the past. I just had my second 6 1/2 weeks ago, and I had my fair share of drama with this pregnancy, the details of which I'll spare. I questioned a lot of what I did or didn't do for a large part of my pregnancy, and even after she was born. I ended up having contractions at 30 weeks, and my...
  11. i can't do soy. makes my head hurt, makes me nauseaous and my stomach burns. like a 'mild' glutening because it only lasts a couple hours, not days. not so pleasant
  12. Yeah, I'm not so sure what it is either. I'm thinking about trying it somewhere on his back or closer to where the rash actually is. Strange...
  13. Yes, you have it correct. If your total IgA serum is low, then because the celiac panel is IgA based, the results are going to be incorrect. With yours being so borderline, it's hard to say for sure that is what happened, but there's a fairly good chance. So, if you want to be retested, then ask your doc to run the IgG versions. They exist, but are not routine...
  14. So here's how things are now with his arm. It never really broke out or anything, that I could see. But his arm is still very dark in that patch, and I noticed it felt much rougher than the rest of his skin. But, he said it didn't hurt and it doesn't look like he was scratching it. So, today I noticed that that patch of his skin on his arm is peeling...
  15. While you are in range for your total IgA serum, it is on the very low end of normal. So, theoretically, this could affect the outcome of the IgA based tests, that and the fact that you are pretty gluten light. Have you ever tried a 100% gluten-free trial and challenge to see if you react to gluten? That would be a pretty definite way to give you an answer...
  16. Whole Foods goes to great lengths to ensure that their gluten free products are, in fact, gluten free. They have a dedicated facility that includes batch testing. I say all this to help eliminate the worry of CC. So, it could be that it was a regular one... they do make both versions of that particular muffin. I've only ever seen the gluten-free muffins in...
  17. Hi and welcome to the forum! I wanted to answer you, but have just a second, so sorry if it seems short. Celiac is caused by a genetic predisposition that is triggered by some sort of stress. For me, it was pregnancy, for some it's a surgery, illness, etc. Having celiac never goes away, but is managed by not eating the glutens found in wheat...

    ARCHIVED Thanks

Lots of love for ya Ken!!! I feel like you took the thoughts from my head... ok, except that I'm not in a hotel in Bangalor bummer
  19. He is 4, which explains saying it hurts like brown! He let me touch it about a half hour ago, still not looking blistery (but his back doesn't look blistery, either), but when I rubbed my finger over it, he said ow. (The spot where I did mine is ever so slightly sensitive, but it's from pulling the bandage off. Definitely doesn't hurt.) So, it is quite...
  20. Thanks Angie Since you've had it done, does it matter where it's done? I noticed the rash on his back down to the sides of his bottom, not his arm. I tested his arm b/c I figured if it did break out, it would be less irritated there.
  21. I echo this suggestion. Soy makes me very nauseous and gives me a headache; gluten does, too, but it takes much longer for the gluten nausea to kick in, and it is worse and lasts much longer. If you look at most of the people here, it seems that most of us don't get away with having only one intolerance.
  22. Well, he wore the bandaid patch for about 10 hours. I put it on him shortly after he went to sleep and he insisted I take the bandaid off as soon as he woke up. His skin isn't broken out, that I can tell. He says his arm hurts, but when I ask him to tell me how it feels, he says "it hurts like brown." So, I'm not really sure that I proved anything...
  23. So, a couple a days ago I posted about some concern for my son having DH. I decided today to try the patch test to see if he reacts to the iodine before I drag him to the dermatologist and try to get his skin biopsied... that just doesn't seem as though it would go well. Anyway, my husband and I are also doing it. Myself moreso as the control, my husband...
  24. Hi and welcome to the forum! This looks like the test to see your total IgA serum, which basically is checking to see if you make enough or are deficient. Your number came back just within range, so you are technically not deficient, but you are on the very low side of normal. This could have affected the results of the tTG test, making it look...
