  1. OH YAY!!!!! A couple of years ago, our news broadcasted a piece about Raleigh being one of the top test markets. Looks like they were right!!! I can't wait to go check it out.
  2. I, too, have to ask for some sort of reference on wheat transferring from diet to meat. My personal opinion on Tyson (and it is JUST that) is that they use some sort of chemical that is hard for people to break down. As I posted earlier, my husband cannot eat Tyson. He is NOT gluten intolerant in the least. I, however, can eat Tyson with no problems (which...
  3. I can eat raw tomatoes like candy, and often do. I am known to eat a pint of cherry tomatoes for a snack But, I can't do a lot of sauce. I make my own, simply because it tastes better. But, tomato sauce will almost always give me heartburn. It's the sauce. It becomes very acidic when you cook it down... ever wonder why there's sugar in tomato sauce???...
  4. I use regular Zyrtec when I need something. The only thing that works for me.
  5. Does anyone know of a decent place to eat around downtown Hampton? We will be at the VA Air and Space Museum this coming Saturday, and I hear that we will be eating out for dinner. Thankfully, I can suggest/pick a place. Even though I grew up in the area, I'm not familiar with what's around there, especially when it comes to gluten-free. Thanks!
  6. YES! As you already know, a tTG IgA test for you will prove nothing. There is a tTG IgG test available, and that is the one that should be performed on you. It's there. I had to tell my son's ped to look it up because he didn't think there was such a test. But when we first had him tested, I wanted to cover all bases in case he was deficient, because I am...
  7. I love to cook and create. Being gluten-free has made me experiment with foods, and has now become my creative outlet, since I find with two kids, I don't have time to pursue my other interests. I don't eat to live, but I do certainly love good food and love to cook it. Before gluten-free, like everyone else, I felt like crap no matter what I ate. I really...
  8. I don't get gassy, but I do feel that my insides are in an uproar. It takes me about two weeks to feel close to normal. I think you will find you are not alone in either symptoms or time frame here.
  9. I noticed it, too. My solution is to make pizza from scratch. I know it's not as convenient as frozen, but it tastes so much better, and my husband prefers it over regular stuff. We've kind of turned it into a family affair...
  10. Yes, you can be diagnosed at a very young age, as in a year or sometimes less, but it can also be developed later in life. My doctor and I believe that I developed it after my son was born, as the stress of pregnancy was the trigger for me. Surgeries, illnesses, anything that is stressful and traumatic can be the trigger and cause celiac to develop at...
  11. I felt the same way, too, in the beginning. I'm not in school, but I had the same feeling that oh no! I can't go out with my friends to restaurants... but I'm a little over 2 yrs into this. What I've learned: you explain it quickly, in a way that makes sense, and don't make a big deal out of it. Eat before you go, have a drink with them or whatever, and enjoy...
  12. The 'warn status' bar under your name would show you if you had been warned for any rule violations. You would also receive a PM explaining everything. BUT, you have no warnings. The bar is only visible to you and the moderators. Everyone has one, but you only see yours. Welcome to the forum!
  13. Our favorite is Carol Fenster's pizza dough. It's great! And my husband is at the point where he would rather have that than anything else. The last time he got "regular" pizza, he complained about how much he missed mine. I can post the recipe for you tomorrow, if you'd like. There's a ton floating around here, and I'm sure most of them are good. I...
  14. Many of your symptoms really aren't atypical. You're in good company. I had extreme fatigue also. I didn't sleep 23 hours a day, I might have tried to though. I slept a lot and never felt like I was actually rested. I also had terrible headaches almost daily, and a couple others. People (and doctors) often think that unless your symptoms are gastrointestinal...
  15. Are you asking if anyone has tried in general, or are you asking if anyone has tried it in relation to celiac? I have tried homeopathy for my allergies and sinus related problems, and yes, it helped quit a bit. Have I or would I try it to 'cure' my celiac? Absolutely not. Two completely different issues.
  16. Welcome Lurker! It's nice to have you out of the shadows!!
  17. My genetics were a huge piece of the puzzle for me. My doctor was willing to use that along with my dietary response for a diagnosis. He wanted me to eat gluten for a month, but I just couldn't do it. So, be prepared for that if you are already gluten free. What is working for you, though, is that you have a first degree relative already diagnosed. I'm the...
  18. My husband can eat anything. ANYTHING. Except for Tyson chicken. Makes him sick for two days. I have no idea what it is about their chicken specifically, but the very word Tyson makes him shudder. I don't think it's gluten, I think it's something else, like maybe the quality of the chicken. I don't know. Browse the forum, it's not the first time it's come...
  19. Prometheus did my testing, and their turn around was what it said on the back of the test. And you're right, they fax. My doctor mailed me a letter telling me the result, so from time of blood draw to receipt of his letter... 10 days maybe. This was about a year and a half ago, but my results were in within their time frame.
  20. I know a mother and son who are also 'in remission' and eat whatever they want. I make my usual "celiac is an autoimmune disease that never goes away" statement, but what are you gonna do? It's up to them to make their decisions. I just hope they don't get terribly ill in the process. But, as everyone else has said, they are terribly misguided.
  21. I think that this is very important. Our daughter is now just about 5 months old, and our ped basically told us that if we wanted to start her on solids, we could. But no rush. He's also totally in agreement with holding off on gluten if we want. We have really given this some thought, as we KNOW that both of them are at risk, to the degree, I'm not sure...
  22. Yeah, reactions can occur a day or so later and hang on for days. My typical reaction is a headache, and then the next day, the GI symptoms kick in and last for about a week or so.
  23. Neither have I. OMG, I would die without bacon. Seriously.
  24. You would definitely be doing yourself a better service to get a list of safe/unsafe ingredients, like these: https://www.celiac.com/articles/181/1/Safe-Gluten-Free-Food-List-Safe-Ingredients/Page1.html /celiac-disease/forbidden-gluten-food-list-unsafe-ingredients-r182/ Companies can change at a whim, and it's better to know what ingredients to single...
  25. A celebrity!!! Where do I get one of those fruits around here?? I'm very intrigued by it.
