  1. You have the genes. You have the relatives. You have the following symptoms which match being gluten intolerant: bloating reflux GERD , diarrhea, anemia which does not respond to supplements, biopsy showing changes in villi, joint pain arthritis symtoms, ITCHY RASH, depression, weight abnormality. Get the rash biopsied to see if it is DH and there...
  2. So, is the butter real butter that came from a cow and is packaged in little foil packets, or is it that melted crap they ladle out of a warming pot ? Because you so do not want to eat any ersatz butter flavored oil product in a restaurant.
  3. I have not yet met in person a doctor who would be able to accurately diagnose me. None of them have known that neurological symptoms and brain lesions are also symptoms of auto immune disease caused by gluten intolerance. None of the doctors I have seen acknowlege that anxiety is a symptom of gluten intolerance. None of the doctors I have seen who...
  4. If I have to travel I start converting my metabolism over beforehand to fat burning and not carb burning by reverting back to something resembling an Atkins or specific carbohydrate diet... very low carb, higher fat and proteins, little or no grain. I will eat vegetables as a part of the meal beforehand, also, to provide fiber, which helps hold water. When...
  5. Very interesting ! What brand of bread machine did you use ?
  6. What brand of soy milk are you using ? I didn't know I was getting cross contaminated when I used the Soy Dream stuff until I started reading the posts on the forum here last year. Even tho it may state on the box "gluten free" they use barley enzymes during the manufacturing process, and claim that the ppm (parts per million of gluten) is low enough to...
  7. Coconut oil, or coconut oil mixed half with mild olive oil. I tend to use olive oil for most baking.
  8. The brainwashing of the American consumer public continues. You don't really have a disease until a pharmaceutical company invents a way to profit off of it. The least problem in the world we have is a lack of drugs for this. It does nothing to address the issues of education, diagnosis, respecting the disease, accurately sourcing what is in our food...
  9. When I did the initial diet change I was doing something close to the specific carbohydrate diet, where one doesn't eat any grain at all, and uses ground almonds for baking. (they do use yogurt, which I did not at the time use) . When one goes super low carbohydrate like that, you have to increase the amount of good fats and vegetables in the diet dramatically...
  10. Well, at least the Smucker's website is good at listing ingredients and ease of navigating the site. Open Original Shared Link I was looking recently at jellies and the first few jars of Smuckers I picked up either had food coloring, (the low sugar marmalade) "natural flavors" or corn syrup in them. When I am in a hurry or tired if I pick up 3 or ...
  11. Oh, good grief. Does anyone know of a safe, gluten free brand of jam or jelly that also does not have artificial flavoring or coloring or any of that weird crap in it ? Sugar is okay. You know, plain sugar, like things used to be made of back in the ancient times.
  12. The link just takes one to a main page. When I clicked on "ideas" I didn't see anything that you were talking about. Starbucks.... is ridiculous. They even serve teas (Tazo) of which some of the flavors have gluten in them. I asked for a plain green tea recently (I was in nowheresville, travelling or I would have gone somewhere else) and instead...
  13. Take a Lundberg rice cake. Crumble it into a bowl. = rice cereal. Don't use Quaker, too much potential of cross contamination.
  14. I don't know exactly why it would be in your case (other than diet and supplements) but besides taking a multi vitamin and a B complex, you can try eating a spoonful of blackstrap molasses every day. Crude but effective, if it is the kind of problem that responds to eating more of the missing nutrient.
  15. ~~~~~~~~~~ Well.... (oh, and btw, welcome to the forum) there is this problem in American medicine right now, which is the huge gap between reality of medical practice and what the American physicians think is going on with their patients, plus they're up there with a bunch of Canadian doctors who work under a vastly different system, which is non...
  16. How much flak will I get for saying she's coming off as an airhead, again ? Think of all the women who look lumpy in a bikini but who can explain the difference between food intolerances, food allergies, gluten intolerance, auto immune reactions, and celiac disease ?
  17. Yay ! I know you missed them, so glad they turned up ! When we moved years ago, I didn't take my toolbox along outside the moving van, and every day I didn't have that little box of stuff it drove me nearly crazy. We had to wait a month to take possession of the house but they allowed us to work on the fences before if we wanted to.... I had to strip...

    ARCHIVED Vent

"does anyone have any ideas as to how I should handle this?" Stop eating lunch with your mother. I hope she doesn't have anything to do with administrating the patient's food charts.
  19. Color me skeptical that the end result would be positive. It would require the entire world using this variety, which apparently would be genetically engineered. (I looked at the site, which is a sort of information clearinghouse for many bio engineering type companies) This is when you take genes from one plant (or animal) and insert them into another...
  20. It would depend on what you are making. The eggs not only provide some "rise" but mostly they provide binding as their proteins cook and become rubbery, like gluten would have. So you may end up doing quite a bit of experimenting to see what kind of things you can use for egg replacer (gelatin, xanthan gum, fruit puree, pumpkin puree, flaxseed soaked in...

    ARCHIVED Protein?

Gluten in the cigarette papers. Cutting out protein will be a disaster. Your diet is also lacking fats unless you didn't mention something like olive oil or coconut oil. Add in a gluten free B complex, a gluten-free calcium, magnesium supplement, multivitamin. Always rinse before cooking, then soak dry beans in boiling water, then rinse again...
  22. Yes, but..... did you use a brand new muffin tin or an old one with baked on gunk ? Plastic bowls, spatulas, colanders, etc... just throw that stuff out now or give it away. Second most likely culprit could be the dairy, like the feta cheese or the milk. You might be lactose intolerant, which means you need to avoid fresh milk and cheese...
  23. You don't have to use a "shampoo" as a shampoo, for example, if you find a liquid body wash that's safe or even a bar soap that works, you can use that while searching for the perfect "shampoo." For hair conditioning, I always use apple cider vinegar diluted with water 1 part vinegar, 7 parts water. You can pour it in a plastic cup and then pour it over...
  24. Welcome to the "They Told Me It Was Safe But I'm Suspicious Club." When I first started this routine 5 years ago, I read it wasn't safe. Then I read it was safe. Then I read it wasn't safe. Then I read it was safe, IF it was made in the US. Then I read a textbook of manufacturing terms used in food science, which I have misplaced but it's...
  25. I wouldn't even go so far as to give them that "out", letting them define what "gluten free" means when the intent of the label is to mislead the consumer as to the contents of the product. I agree that this misleading labeling is probably a response to the Pet Food Manufacturing with Contaminated Gluten Scandal of last year. A company based in Las...
