  1. Tell us what you are eating so we can trouble shoot it. I must be some sort of freak, I'm starting my 6th year of not eating it and I never had the withdrawals, but I was already supplementing with vitamins and minerals so I expect that had something to do with it. I suspect you are not taking a B- complex vitamin and calcium/magnesium supplements...
  2. Some charcoals contain gluten binders. Eat fat to gain weight. Avocados, nuts, coconut oil or milk, olive oil. Dark chocolate. Eggs. Hard cheeses if you are only lactose intolerant and not casein (milk protein) intolerant. Some people can tolerate organic cultured butter or ghee, also.
  3. Fresh mandarin oranges contain a natural decongestant.
  4. _______________ Questions: Are you much stiffer in the morning, and then loosen up by afternoon? Are you pretty much always waking up with a back ache? Are your eyes dry or gritty feeling? Are your eyes unusually sensitive to light or glare? Is your mouth dry? Did the rheumat. tell you that your were negative for C- reactive protein? CRP, so...
  5. ______________ I like eggs so I feel guilty but I've been giggling for the past 5 minutes after sniffing the dog and trying to figure out if she smells like the piece of homemade toast I just ate. For every failed gluten free bread baker (also known as a homemade dog treat manufacturer....) there is a recipe or technique that is not yet discovered...
  6. _______________________ I'm sorry, but this simply does not make any sense. If you are positively diagnosed by a doctor (multiple times !) as being celiac, then the treatment is to go on a gluten free diet and stay on it. I am curious if you have other problems such an unwillingness to give up drinking regular beer socially, or something similar...
  7. __________________________ It won't do you any good- the Tazo brand of tea, some of the flavors contain gluten. And the soy milk ..... some brands of soy milk have calcium carbonate, which can also cause stomach upset, or worse, they're made with a form of rice syrup sweetener that was processed with barley, so they while "technically" gluten free...
  8. Calydryl lotion- Calamine lotion with added antihistamine Benedryl- the potion of the Gods for poison ivy and poision oak, should work on chicken pox. Maybe give him some Claritin antihistamine, also, for the itching.
  9. Do you have any nuts you can run thru the blender to make nut meal ? I almost always put some in any baking I do, and I keep bags of almonds in the fridge for this. Otherwise the rice with the cornstarch should work fine as long as you add the xanthan gum. I'm not a supertaster so I don't get any bitter taste with bean flour, but if you do add any, make...
  10. I've reacted a few times, and I know it was the larabar because I had not eaten anything else processed that day. It has happened a few times with the newer, more interesting flavors. I know I react to anything with the cashews in them, so I give them to my spouse. I also reacted once to a flavor containing peanut butter, and I know I'm actually okay with...
  11. Some hints on surviving without power: I keep a stash of Lundberg rice cakes around now, those with peanut butter are non perishable and a good emergency non cook meal. I also keep boxes of nut milks around, they can be kept in a cool garage once opened. Also, Mission corn tortillas are gluten free and it's good to keep several packages in the freezer...
  12. There are soy sauces that do not contain wheat, such as San J Tamari Soy Sauce, and another brand (la Choy? have to read the label). But most do contain wheat. Some of us avoid or don't use much soy at all because of individual reactions, or how soy can depress thyroid function.
  13. That's either a flu type bug or virus, or food poisoning. Of course, you could also be getting a mild glutening reaction on top of it. Whatever it is, I hope you get over it soon.
  14. Any sort of 3 way mixture of whatever gluten-free flours you can tolerate usually works, the more kinds of flours you use in a bread, the better it seems to taste and function. I think of them as a base flour, a starch, and a hearty flavor. So, I tend to use tapioca, rice, and nut meals, or tapioca, cornstarch, and nut meals, or tapioca, rice or corn...
  15. Oh, that's really bad. I wonder if it was edited that way or if Dr Green is morphing into that much of an a$$ ? Oh, how I would have loved to have been "officially" diagnosed, but NONE of the doctors I saw before I figured it out myself at the age of 47 knew what they should look for, and after the year 2000, the insurance companies have been nothing...
  16. I am not as carbohydrate tolerant as many other people here, so I eat fruit, such as an apple, and a big handful of nuts for breakfast, with tea or coffee with hemp or coconut milk. Then if I need the protein, I do eggs/ some sort of meat, and some stir fried vegetables. I have been known to also just eat dinner leftovers for breakfast. Sometimes I make...
  17. I bet you do have either a secondary intolerance or some sort of allergy you haven't figured out yet, I hope that you get it sorted out. Many people here discover that soy or dairy is also a problem, or they can't tolerate legumes, or corn, or there's even a few people here that can't eat rice. Everyone is different. Dinners out I just get a plain grilled...
  18. If it's just a short casual get together, I just eat beforehand and bring a snack and drink water- and talk, I'm there for the socializing, not the food, and I don't think anybody minds. I accept that this is what I am, and this way I don't have to worry about eating something with gluten accidently. My metabolism is such that if I eat a high protein and...
  19. It's a common symptom of lingering malabsorbtion problems and perhaps a bit too much carbohydrate and not enough protein and fat for your special metabolism. At this time of year, as we approach the shortest day and have very little exposure to sunlight, it is also an instinct to eat a lot of fattening food for energy, and easy to have trouble getting enough...
  20. I use hemp milk and I seem to be fine with it, which rather surprised me. It sits in my stomach quite well. Tastes acceptable. High protein, good omegas. If it weren't for this board, I'd still be using the stupid Dream milk products and wondering why I couldn't shake the brain fuzzles.
  21. Why would you want to cheat, when there are good gluten free versions of all the foods you just mentioned ? You can either bake them or buy them. I just made myself some quick pan flatbread for lunch for a treat. There is so much other stuff to eat, you won't feel deprived or hungry. The risks are, once you go off, as you readjust, you might then...
  22. I think you mean french fried (deep fat fried) potatoes ? The oil used for frying could have been contaminated by breading containing wheat, used on other things that were fried in the same fryer, in addition to the "chicken salt." Also, the potatoes, unless sliced up there and made of actual potatoes, who knows what could be on them if they come pre...
  23. You're craving carbohydrates because your blood sugar and blood calcium levels are low. To assuage this immediately, eat some fruit like raisins to give it a little boost. But then you MUST start taking a calcium supplement, some magnesium, and a gluten free B complex multi, because you're experiencing symptoms of malabsorbtion. When your blood calcium...
  24. Oh, geez, that store seriously needs to talk to ditz- woman and have her stop doing that. I never take food from strangers, but if she had followed me into the rest room with one of those fake pills afterwards that would have been the last time she ever tried that stunt.
  25. Ah, did you say millet? I've read on this board somewhere that some types of that stuff is a big No- No. If I were you I'd ditch the dairy and soy for now (and the millet) and see what happens. But I was so sick for so long I'm one of the freakish ones who doesn't miss regular food that much. I did a modified SCD (grainless) diet for several years...
