The funny part about it is I have been eating those things without problem for two years. I am not exactly at the beginning. I do tend to steer clear of beans (not green, but dried) and do not eat refried beans for example. But I eat broccoli and cauliflower quite often with no after effects. So I can't think why I would suddenly react so violently. ...

ARCHIVED New Diagnosis And Confused
mushroom replied to kathylea's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It is also a good idea at first to avoid lactose (milk, ice cream, cream) because the lactase to digest that is produced at the tips of the villi in your small intestine which are normally damaged by the gluten. You may be able to add this back in later when you have healed. I can tolerate milk in my capucchinos now If you can do it, a gluten free... -
Twice in the last 4-6 weeks I have experienced the following: Felt fine during the day, eating gluten free of course, not eating out, no cc possibilities. Ate a normal evening meal (we do normally eat quite late), gone to bed and awoken with the most horrible bloating and gassy pain under the breastbone, and very rapid and pounding heartbeat (missing...

Two years. Glutened three times, each time by meds (you'd think I'd learn by now!) Have kidney problems; believe they were caused by meds too Never cheated. 60's.

I think that part of the problem with medical school training is that doctors are not trained to think of their patients as thinking human beings! They are told to "go see the gall bladder in Room 203", or "check the lungs in Room 99" without a thought that there are living, thinking, feeling human beings attached to these organs who have their own take...

Jason, this post is not meant to kick a fella when he's down, but it is written from the heart of one who has responded to many of your posts in many of your threads, and I must say you are one of our most prolific thread starters . I keep hoping to see one of three things from you. The first is a positive post of something good that has happened... -
ARCHIVED Swollen, Throbbing, Aching Finger A Symptom?
mushroom replied to ratty89's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They start with a blood test to see if you are RA sero positive or negative, but just because you're negative doesn't mean there isn't something arthritic going on. I am RA negative but have psoriatic arthritis which is psoriasis in conjunction with the arthritis, but a different form of RA. I was first diagnosed with polymylalgia rheumatica, then RA and... -

mushroom replied to iamhalfsickofshadows's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Dear halfsickofshadows: welcome to the forum and to people who understand what you are going through. First questions first: do you have a primary care physician and health insurance? Can you ask her to run a celiac blood test panel on you, right away, before you stop eating gluten, because it's important to be eating gluten up until the time you... -

Yeah, but Judee, ARE YOU GOING THROUGH PHREZNO??? Inquiring minds want to know, especially the one who will have to shampoo her carpet unless you promise not to look down -
Well, at least Olive Garden is the first Italian style restaurant i have heard of, touting a gluten free menu, that actually realizes that it is possible to serve gluten free pasta. That is a big leap forward. Now, if they have worked out their cc issues, this could be a GOOD thing. I would certainly go talk to them about how they prepare it.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free For A Week.
mushroom replied to Mey Marie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There appear to be two types of digestive enzymes: those with pancreatin--mainly amylase, protease, lactase, lipase,, some with sucrase and cellulase, and then some also contain papain and bromelain, or these are a separate supplement. I have taken the whole lot at various times, either the first or second group, or in one capsule they were in combination... -

From what I understand, in Europe there are more than one additional genes that are considered to be celiac genes but are not recognized as such in the U.S. Maybe only Europeans get celiac from these genes?? Nora would have answers for you on this, I would think.

For some, the effects of a glutening can last for a week or more, so yes, your response is normal. Hope you feel better soon.
