  1. You always need to check or have the pharmacist check when they change products on you.
  2. The itching I experienced (along with rashes and hives) was actually caused by additional food intolerances that were being masked by the gluten. The major itchy for me was soy, but also citric acid, and then potato. You might consider if there is something you have been eating more of since going gluten free. Often if we eat too much of one thing we develop...
  3. Don't overlook that your body needs a good supply of Vitamin D in order to use the calcium to make bone. You should make sure that you are not Vitamin D deficient (as many celiacs are). so that the calcium can do its job.
  4. Gluten free breads are not as much of a hassle and don't take as long as gluten, because there is only one rise--no punching down!. They say to use the grey nonstick loaf pans rather than the black is you are baking in the oven because the black tends to give a higher temp. Just my two cents worth.
  5. Yes, there are lots of mixes. Bobs Red Mill are he most popular ones, it seems, but there is also Gluten Free Pantry. Namaste, I can't remember them all now because I am back in New Zealand now and our products are different. I don't use that much makeup so it was not a big issue for me, but shampoo and conditioner, etc., lip gloss, toothpaste, I bet...
  6. Welcome to the forum. I hope that others will chime in with their ideas for you, especially the vegetarians amongst us. Yes, you will have to make fruit and vegetables the backbone of your diet (and they are so good for you anyway!!) You might try a vegetable stir fry over rice, with chicken, shrimp, tofu, your choice for protein). I am sure you will...
  7. I like this doc more and more, the more you talk about her. I think you have a keeper there. Have you any idea how many celiacs are first (incorrectly) diagnosed with fibromyalgia??? No, if the diagnosis is what we expect you probably won't like it, but it's better than not having a diagnosis or having a wrong one However, there is always the possibility...
  8. Taking so many supplements on an unhealed gut could indeed cause you some bubbling problems, although if you do have celiac you will probably need all those supplements. Did she check you for these deficiencies? Because if so and you were deficient that is another major indicator of celiac--failure to absorb nutrients. Neuropathy is also another major...
  9. Hi, and welcome to the forum. You do, indeed, have two of the classic symptoms of celiac. Nearly everyone who has the digestive problems of celiac reports bloating as a major symptom. As for constipation, that is also very common. Some people have diarrhea, some constipation, some alternate between the two. Is there some reason why your doctor did...
  10. I ssecond the lasagna suggestion. "White" lasagna made with bechamel sauce and sauteed mushrooms and spinach is delicious. You could also make mushroom soup.
  11. I have spun this off from the topic on substitution for evaporated milk in a pumpkin pie. A poster suggested a "non-dairy" product which was suitable for whipping cream, but which contained casein. Well, we have a large dairy conglomerate here that ships "powdered milk" all over the world, and that powdered "milk" consists of casein, so I wondered how a...
  12. Fly in, and have her driver pick you up!!
  13. I had to google this, because I could not imagine a product which contains casein being "non-dairy", and this is what I found: 2006/02/20: Evidently the dairy inspectors require that milk-similar items without milk (but with casein!) are labelled as non-dairy to avoid confusing the consumer! They're worried about the consumer who is hoping to get milk...
  14. Truly, t'is only when we move that we actually discover all "this stuff" most of which we had no idea we had, don't know what to do with, and will have no possible use for in the future. But stuff is stuff, and it is amazing how attached you can become to something when you think about tossing it
  15. Go ahead and grieve, Sparky. We all do it. I am currently grieving for eating out at all!!! I practically have to ask, "Is there any food in this food?"
  16. I know someone who cannot eat wheat but claims that rye and barley don't bother her. I don't know if she has ever been tested for celiac. For what it's worth.... She also cannot eat potato. Have you ever actually been tested for celiac, or maybe since you live in the Caribbean there is no testing available there???
  17. Is it a conscious big breath, or does it just happen??
  18. It's amazing the number of people who confuse gluten with glucose, having never before heard of gluten Fortunately I just look for the gluten free label and then ask if they have soy in them!
  19. Soozle, I just checked yer profile. Haven't done that afore. At yer advanced age ya should be damned happy to be buzzing, vibrating, etc., etc., and glad for any extra hours tomorrra Ye have truly out lived yer allotted time on dis earth!!! Ye gods, ye is coming up to 100 years old I dunno anyone who has lived dat long I would say that as...
  20. I, too, have these deep, sudden, unexpected breaths that I have no control over. I am not aware at the time of being short of breath (although I am chronically upon exertion because of COPD), but it seems like every ten minutes or so it "just happens" out of the blue. I once talked to my PCP about it, and she (she was a jerk) just kind of sneered/smirked...
  21. It is very tempting to think that if you are not "super sensitive" that it is not so important to be so strict with the no gluten policy. But just because you do not have major digestive issues does not mean that gluten is not harming you in more insidious ways. Everyone's reaction to gluten is different as you probably know. Some get only neurological...
  22. Now this really strikes home, Ali. I know I do not consume enough fluids of all kinds, especially water. And with the diuretic effect of a glass or two of wine in the evening that could well account for my digestive system not being able to work properly after dinner and my stomach throwing its hands in the air and saying, "Now just what am I supposed...
  23. No, I can't say that I have. I had a yeast overgrowth in my gut back in the 90's and that was horrible. I couldn't digest anything. Of course, I had c. diff. with it which magnified it. This is not anything like that, and it happens so infrequently I have taken probiotics for several months at the start of gluten free and whenever I take antibiotics...
  24. This could play a role for me, too, perhaps. If I go over the hill to town and there are no snacks in the car I will just have one capucchino all day Note to self: stock car with more snacks!!!
