mushroom replied to Bexxa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bexxa.in some unlucky individuals the gluten also attacks the nervous system. It can cause gluten ataxia and other neurological impairments, anxiety, confusion, brain fog, memory issues. It can also, as I can personally testify, affect your heart rate. I have suffered for many years with sudden tachycardia and atrial fibrillation which I Knew was coming... -

ARCHIVED If It Isn't Just Gluten, What Is It?
mushroom replied to Aqua's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
It is quite possible that if you used your same utensils and same bread pan that you cross-contaminated your gluten free loaf with gluten crumbs which are very hard to get rid of. Porous utensils (think wooden and plastic), cutting boards, etc., can all harbor gluten. -
ARCHIVED Do You Ever Cheat On Your Gluten Free Diet?
mushroom replied to karinp's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
So long as any gluten is being ingested, the autoimmune response is being triggered. How much damage it does to your body is not quantifiable, but it is not worth the risk. -

ARCHIVED How Long Is To Long To Go Undiagnosed?
mushroom replied to KnightRobby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hello, and welcome. Unfortunately, failure to diagnose early is all too common in celiac. Some of us don't get a formal diagnosis at all, we just diagnose ourselves because we seem to be the only people capable of recognizing, finally, what is happening to our bodies. I am so sorry that this has happened to you to. To answer your questions, there... -

If the sticky rice is a processed rice powder, and not a whole grain product, then all bets are off. There is no way of knowing what happens to something when it is processed. We often talk here of "a facility in which gluten is processed" or "using the same lines as" gluten products (even though the lines are cleaned between runs. U.S. labelling laws...

You also need a full nutrient panel, for vitamins and minerals - like A, B's (especially B12) D, E, K, potassium, calcium, zinc,ferritin/iron, etc. since gluten can cause depletion of your nutrient levels which leads to other problems. Glad he is doing thyroid. Well, I see he is doing electrolytes which covers a lot of the minerals. When you get those... -
ARCHIVED New Here -- Question About Symptoms
mushroom replied to KikiB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
While it takes a long time to fully heal from the effects of gluten, healing does begin to take place as soon as it is withdrawn. Depending on how much damage you have in your intestine, that might be just enough to take you out of the positive category on the lab results. It is recommended that you keep eating a normal gluten diet. The six days so far... -
ARCHIVED New Here -- Question About Symptoms
mushroom replied to KikiB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would caution you that if your tests come back positive for celiac they will probably want to do an endoscopy with biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. For this test you should still be eating gluten or you risk a false negative on the biopsy, especially if you have to wait a week or two for it. -
