  1. Just to be clear on one thing -- removing gluten from your diet and then getting tested practically guarantees a negative result because the tests measure antibodies to gluten and your body does not make these if there is no gluten present. You most likely react to dairy because gluten damages the part of your small intestine that makes the enzyme to digest...
  2. I think the most significant part of the abstract GeeEff linked to is this: Our data confirm the existence of non-celiac WS as a distinct clinical condition. We also suggest the existence of two distinct populations of subjects with WS: one with characteristics more similar to celiac disease and the other with characteristics pointing to food allergy...
  3. I don't normally watch him - "Now, here's what we're gonna do, folks, we're gonna... bla bla bla" but I have seen him do gluten free stuff before without knowing of his special interest.
  4. I don't think, for me, it is the feed, since I eat pigs that are fed goodness knows what! I believe for me it is the hormones and antibiotics that go along with feed lot raising that causes me to be a total wired insomniac after eating regular beef.
  5. The damage has to be quite severe for the doctor to be able to see it with the naked eye; most damage is only picked up by the microscope. That is why it is hit and miss whether he scopes the right place(s) since it can be quite patchy -- the damage is not uniform..
  6. Check out this link (a medical editorial) Open Original Shared Link where they state: Print this out and give it to him, along with the rest of the information at this link.
  7. Ah doctors, and their darned tests. If you don't pass them, well then it is not something they can deal with. And certainly not if it can be controlled with diet Far too many people have been told to continue eating gluten because they do not test as celiac, unfortunately. And if you don't listen to your body, but listen only to the doctors, you may...
  8. You need to be very specific with the GI. You would be amazed how many endoscopies are done on patients with your symptoms where they just.... look.... don't even bother to take a sample or two, let alone test them for celiac. The doctor should take at least six biopsies specifically for celiac testing. You must insist on this or they will take one or...
  9. I have seen a poster say they had a faint positive on a Biocard that came out positive in a celiac panel test.
  10. Yes, every lab sets their own ranges though. You will get a negative, equivocal, and positive range given with each result.

    ARCHIVED Finally

She is finally becoming celiac aware at your expense!! At least you have the consolation that she might test the next patient who presents with your symptoms. One by one, we can make a difference.
  12. And, let me guess.... he did NOT suggest dermatitis herpetiformis (skin form of celiac) as a possible diagnosis. First of all, did he do any celiac testing in his allergy testing, or is he saying you are allergic to wheat? And if you are allergic to wheat, or even if it showed you are celiac, how come he just filed those results a year ago?? If you...
  13. Well, in the context of taking two years to heal completely for adults, I would say that is probably "quite" quickly.
  14. Here's what the Mayo Clinic says: Usually several weeks after removal of gluten from the diet the small intestine begins to heal...... Open Original Shared Link How many weeks is several? I don't know. Your several and mine may vary. Two weeks is not several to me, but three weeks could be. I don't believe the poster was referring to total...
  15. No, most of us feel that the blood test is a sufficient diagnosis. Some old school docs will not give an official diagnosis without the biopsy, however.
  16. I think you need to spell the whole thing out, rather than being Ms. c.c. -- wrong connotation Oh, and somebody should probably warn Nickers - it's about time for her boiler to erupt again.
  17. Do not feel overwhelmed, and do not feel as if you have to address the whole thing all at once. Bite it off in little (gluten free ) pieces. Discuss it with your family first, and see if your spouse will agree to take the house gluten free which will make it a lot easier for you (and your daughter). Oh, and have your daughter tested too. If they will...
  18. The answer is yes -- it is commonly referred to on this board as "brain fog". And it is not epilepsy mimicking celiac, but celiac giving symptoms that are like seizures in those for whom gluten affects the neurological systems.
  19. Really, if it were me, I would just quit the gluten (and whatever else is bothering you at the moment) and be healthy. Which is actually what I did because I had never even really heard of celiac at that time. It is good that you are showing no signs of malabsorption. Did he do a full vitamin and mineral panel on you, like Vitamins D, B12, A, E, K, and...
  20. Heading back to sun in four weeks, YAY!!!. Of course, we still gots warm sun here too (for now )
  21. Even though it is called a disease, we are not sick (once we have recovered from gluten damage). We will only be sick if we eat gluten.
  22. Yes, since celiac is genetically based, it sounds like it might have struck all three generations. The neurological symptoms of gluten can also mimic epilepsy, although it generally does not respond well to epileptic medications, as in the case of my brother. I would pretty much bet your tests are positive, and if they are not I would ask for a biopsy...
  23. BUT..... do you know where the pipes are??
  24. Hubs is going up to the Incline condo on Wednesday to make sure that the "Water Cop" is doing its job (shuts itself off if it detects any hint of water where it shouldn't be) sometimes much to the tenants' consternation
  25. I made a french fruit tart for a friend's dinner party, and I can't remember which liqueur it called for now. Later found out a couple of her guests were teetotallers, who ooohed and aaahed over the tart I kept me mouf shut.
